    Honestly my favorite part of this is the same thing that has been my favorite part of AoS over all and that is that its the first real time in a Warhammer setting where it doesn't feel like Chaos is more or less set to win eventually and where all other threats are secondary. It started with Order getting to be the aggressive, proactive hero's taking back the realms at the start of the setting and now has moved into Death becomeing the TRULY dominant power as even Chaos's Eye of Terror equivalent gets rocked by a successful campaign opening by the NHs!
    And to be clear this is NOT an anti-chaos thing! I actually like chaos WAY MORE now that they don't feel like the boring, invincible villains! In 40K even when Chaos takes a beating, its always like, "Ah but actually its fine, they are just still actually impossibly powerful and that was just as planned..." And every other race in the setting is either basically trying to prove they can be even a fraction as dangerous as Chaos (Orks, Nids, Necrons) or running scared because of Chaos (Eldar, Imperium). Here in AOS though Archaon the Everchosen actually feels like more of a bada*s then Abaddon the Despoiler because where Abaddon keeps failing to beat an enemy rotting from the inside out, Archaon is having to constantly hold Chaos together while dealing with the legitimately powerful and successful forces of Sigmar and Nagash! And not only is he winning as often as he loses, but he feels like an underdog in some of these conflicts because he's still ultimately just a formerly mortal man fighting actual gods! That's so much cooler then a super man fighting other, equally super super men.
    Destruction still feels a bit like an odd man out and I hope they get to do something really cool and lore impacting eventually, but with Chaos, Order and Death forming three legitimate, near-ish equally strength super powers, the Orks, Goblins and Ogres running around as wild cards setting fire to sh*t and throwing monkey wrenches in everyone else's plans feels allot less wasteful and dismissive then the Orks, Nids and Necrons being, "Definitely threatening guys! Just... You know, not as much as Chaos."
    So ya... AoS lore continues the impressive balancing act of making it so any faction can feel like bada*s with a legit chance to win it all or underdogs fighting bravely against impossible odds and I am SO here for that!

      Duhad Honestly it’s why I’m starting to hop aboard the AoS train and off 40k. AoS is actually starting to interest me because it feels like each faction has a stake in the realm wars, and just about everything to lose (well except destruction, they’re in it for the fun of it/eating everybody else). The fact that Chaos can actually *lose* makes the war that much more intense.
      40k meanwhile is all about Space Marines, with the other factions being an afterthought. Psychic Awakening is proof of that, and it doesn’t seem like 40k is gonna change this boring pattern.

It's also really cool seeing chaos on the back foot for once and having to defend a location rather than attacking

    Love it! I'm an avid death fan, so I wanted to know the lore in the book... But I can't bring myself to spend as much as GW is charging for this thing without any real rules changes for the death faction.
    They are meant to be some of the stars of the show, but they get absolutely nothing out of it, not a good precedent for campaign books in the future. So I'm happy you cover the lore on your channel as well as you always do.

    I am really curious to see where things go after this book. Because we have 3 threads to pull on and see. 1) Slaanesh was found and nearly freed. But thanks to bad timing Archeon had to retreat to his home base. Figure the aelves are going to be paranoid and either double their guarding efforts or try to move them somewhere else. Slaanesh can not be set free. Curious if they make a mistake and screw things up. 2) I figure Archeon is pissed. Sure he crushed Katakros but the fact that he lost his home base and had to regain it is embarrassing. It makes him look weak. Especially considering how his efforts to free Slaanesh had to be put on hold. I don't see Archeon trying to return to that venture. Figure he needs to be defensive and repair the damage done to his reputation. 3) Katakros, even though he lost he's clearly playing the long game. He did his part in humiliating Archeon. But also learned many things from his fight. Now what he plans to do with this knowledge has yet to be seen. Either he goes back for round 2 or goes after some one else has yet to be seen. So I'm curious to see what happens next in the grand scheme of things. Also we know there are things coming with Teclis, Seraphon, and sons of Baphomet. So I'm sure things are going to get interesting in the narrative.

      Archaon still lost the Shyish gate and the Bonereapers still hold parts of the Eight-Points. The book ends with Katakros spreading his army out to take and consume all the other locations instead of directly attacking the Varanspire, so that war is ongoing.

      @NinjatoBlade Před 4 lety +3

      Magical weapons do it. Tzeench is entirely magical based, so its not like they don't have the capacity to keep up and fight back.
      The real issue here is the sheer number of them without sufficient magical preparations to counteract them (Think Harry Potter with the dudes being able to shield everything). Its not that Archaeon couldn't have defended against them, its just that Katakros collected enough of them and attacked quick enough to guarantee a decisive victory.
      A thing to remember is, never assume any of your weapons are unmatched by your opponents, but at the same time never underestimate the potential in catching your enemy flat footed.
