Tonight Maymay and Shannon have come up the perfect teachers gift, the perfect craft fair seller, the perfect friend gift, the perfect gift for everyone!!!! They take our basic folio and turn into a folio legal pad holder!!!!

Legal Pad Journal Gift Tutorial: • Legal Pad Journal Gift...
~~Measurements~~
Folio base:
(1) piece of cardstock cut to 8.50" x 11" score on the 11" side at 3" ~~ 9" and 9 1/4"
(1) piece of cardstock cut to 8.50" x 8" score on the 8" side at 6" and 6 1/4"
Pocket:
(1) piece of cardstock cut to 7" x 8.50" then score on the 7" side score at 6.50" then turn all the way around and score at 6.50" Then turn to your 8.5 inch side and score it at 8 inches. Once that is done miter all the corners to remove some of the bulk ~~SEE VIDEO

Front and back covers: (1) piece of pattern paper cut to 5.75" x 8.25"
Pocket and side: (2) piece of pattern paper cut to 2.75" x 8..25"
Flaps: (2) piece of pattern paper cut to 1.50" x 8.25"

This particular pad thickness didn’t allow for a pen unless it was out side of the package. Shannon and I went round and round about it and then we both agreed we would rather use a separate pen anyway! Lol. We are kinda snobby about pens around here. Also, the ones I receive don’t have pens and it isn’t a deal breaker for me. So hopefully everyone can still enjoy these without the pen holder or edit it to include. Remember, my projects are always just jumping off points for you guys. Thanks

If you make the pocket for the pad narrower and push it to the score line on the right of where the pad will go, you can put a pencil on the left side of the pad. It doesn’t have the bulk of a pen.
@@jewelywest actually we tried that. The pens and pencils we tried were just slightly too thick. This is a very thin folio. If you don’t mind a slight bump, go for it. Or it can be edited to fit inside. Thanks

Just wanted to add a big "thank you!" to all the other comments. I've finished 12 of these in the past week. I'm making each one different for Father's day gifts. I'm having so much fun using up my treasured special papers. The ideas just keep coming on combinations and themes. I'm so glad I found you on CZcams. I'm a new subscriber now. I made something like this many years ago but made it to hold sticky notes and page markers with a pen holder and a photo frame. The recipient loved it. She found it to be very handy and called it her little portable desk. Tks for sharing.
I am a retired teacher, and I would have loved to have one of those as a teacher gift! So meaningful and useful. I love gifts from the heart ❤!
Maymay, I think it would be extra nice to cover the top of the legal pad with the coordinating paper (the gray part that says Members Mark). Also, you can take a Pentel RSVP ballpoint pen (they have clear barrels) and open it up and slide in some coordinating paper that shows through the clear barrel...super cute!

May May I just want to thank you for starting more of these shorter projects I’ve been following you for a long time but it was extremely overwhelming to watch the hour plus play backs. I’m enjoying Christmas in July and I remember why I started following in the first place and now there is some material I can watch and not feel guilty that I need to be doing my house stuff. These small legal pad folios are a best seller at all my craft fairs! Thank you so much for creating all your folio projects. Please may I request one more😂. How about a large legal pad folio or at least one that will hold a 8.5 x 11 size pad.

I love this idea. I think I would add a little pen holder. Also, laminating the pocket that holds the legal pad would make it more sturdy.
I was thinking the same thing. Laminating the cover and pocket would make it last longer.

I made something similar using 2 sheets of 8 1/2 X 11 card stock. I scored at 3, 9 and 9 1/4. It gave me enough space for a pen or a mechanical pencil. I totally love the idea! Thank you for inspiring me. I'm new to paper crafting and I'm having a great time!

Adorable!! That is such a great folio and so versatile.
What about using a hook and loop closure? That would be more economical than the magnet if you are making a number of them.
One suggestion is to add a pen loop on the front right flap so you’ll always have it available to make notes.

Lots of comments so maybe someone already suggested it. When putting the magnets on, especially the 2nd one, if you put the legal pad inside, it would help square up the flap easier.

This is so great, going to make lots. Your instructions are wonderful and so much fun. I love you remind us to use our tools. Haven’t used my decorative punches in forever and and I also used grommets that I’ve had for 20 years on another project..
