    Watching the Marvel movies in chronological order exposes a first-time watcher to devastating post-credit scene spoilers & confusing out-of-context plot points.

      @jackprather81 Pƙed 2 lety +21

      There's a dude who has put the work in and actually edited the whole thing together in timeline order (except where it would mess with the storytelling), which puts the post credit scenes in the right places. It's a little clunky in spots because obviously these movies weren't made that way, but it's really fun for someone who has already seen all the movies a couple of times. The "snap" sequence that incorporates scenes from something like four different movies is actually edited very nicely and works pretty seamlessly.

      @@algi1 Exactly! To watch these movies in chronological order would be a real PITA. By my count, it would require watching the 25 movies (so far) in 42 segments. First, you watch the intro to Thor: The Dark World, then the backstory of Hela part from Thor: Ragnarok, then the intro to Thor. Then the historical part of Shang-Chi. Then the historical part of Black Panther. Then Captain America: The First Avenger, but you have to stop before the end. Then the past parts of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Then the intro to Guardians of the Galaxy. Then Captain Marvel, but skipping the mid-credit scene. Then the intro to Ant Man. Then the past parts of Black Panther (in New York), then the opening credits of The Incredible Hulk. Only then can you watch Iron Man - as a whole movie, without interruption. Then the rest of Hulk. And so on.

    0:51 - Release order IS the 'correct' order. Although you CAN watch a few of the movies out-of-order, doing so disrupts the context of certain plot points, references and jokes, so release order is the best order.
    1:25 - You'll be waiting a while for most of these.
    1:45 - Also, when 'Purple Chin Man' finally enters the scene, they actually ignore the most significant allusion that that end-credits scene makes, but you don't know the character, so it won't matter to you. ;)

    The writer and director on this was Shane Black, who you've already seen as the mercenary telling the dirty jokes in Predator. He's a long time friend of Robert Downey Jr, havig helped resuscitate Downey's career when he had been written off by many as a Hollywood party boy. Casting him in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang brought him in from the dark (although the process actually started with Mel Gibson surrendering to him the lead role in the Singing Detective). IM3 has a lot of Shane Black marks including the dialogue, lead character with mental health issues, and of course his famous penchant for Christmas scenes. If you haven't seen it yet, I would recommend either of Black's best movies, Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

      @@devenscience8894 100% agreed. The comicbook Mandarin is an absolute trash character. It was a horrible racist caricature when it was created, and it's only gotten worse with time. @@devenscience8894 I'm a huge fan of the comics, and have been since the 80s, and honestly I prefer that they did it this way. When they confirmed the Mandarin for the movie my immediate thought was how about just how much they were going to have to explain about the rings and just how much they were going to have to change the character to fit into the MCU that had been established up to this point. Then when the trailers came out for the movie I was low-key disappointed with the generic Bin Laden-esque terrorist retcon. I prefer this fake-out to what they've actually done with the Mandarin in Shang-Chi if I'm perfectly honest - and I think that if we had gotten that character (or, for that matter a version even closer to his comic book counterpart) then people would've disliked the movie even more. I'll take a complete retcon (no matter how blasphemously different to the source material) that fits with the aesthetic and themes of the franchise thus far over a comic-book accurate version that would clash with it any day of the week, frankly.
      In short, I think this movie gets unfairly maligned for unreasonable reasons.

    I love that you're back in the Marvel universe but I was thinking this would be good for the Die Hard category of Christmas movies for Jingle Beans. I nominate Batman Returns for this category as well if you ever plan to see that (I know you're generally anti-sequel but that's a good one). Also throwing Trading Places into the suggestion box for Jingle Beans in this category. 😁

      A couple bits of trivia for you:
      This is at least your 4th movie written or directed by Shane Black, fyi. Lethal Weapon, The Nice Guys and RDJ was in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. These movies also take place at Christmas.
      Rebecca Hall who played the scientist Maya, just directed a movie called Passing on Netflix about biracial women who can "pass" for white; Hall's grandfather was black and passed for white most of his life.

    Ashleigh when you really stop to think about Iron Man 3, the big hero throughout the majority of the movie is
. Harley (The Kid)! Hopefully one day they’ll get The Mandarin right because the Ten Rings are a call back to the terrorist organization from Iron Man (2008) and his greatest weapons (the rings on each and every finger on his hands controlling all of the natural elements). Aldridge Killian’s chest Dragon tattoo is an easter egg and reference to Fing Fang Foom a notorious and popular Iron Man villain from the comic books. #ShaneBlack #RobertDowneyJr #JonFavreau #GwynethPaltrow #DonCheadle #BenKingsley #MCU #IronMan3 #IAmIronMan

    I thought this movie was eh when I first saw it but the more they played it on TV the more I warmed up to it to the point it's one of my fave movies in the MCU. I also love Trevor, it looked like Ben Kingsley had a lot of fun with that role.
    I do remember this movie came out a few months after the Boston Marathon Bombing, which was pretty local to me, so the scene at the Chinese theater was a little uncomfy to watch for me back then.
