When he said "Frozen" after that I thought that ok, there was some vibe there going on actually, so it was a nice point this time. I sure wouldn't have thought about it, but I was able to get his point when he said it. Obviously NW couldn't be much further away from Madonna as a whole (or any pop thing for that matter), but a small fragment of a song can sometimes bring some surprising and unexpected vibes.

But this shit is what you get when you take Tuomas, give him a stage, a band and any instrument he wants, a couple scraps of paper and the femal lead singer of his choice.
Tuomas is the keyboarder who writes the songs, looks the best and holds the most of nightwish.
The female singers rotate a bit and people stay clear of stating their favourite, but they all have their fans.
I think this performance is often descirbed as a "Floorgasm", but don't quote me on that.
Nightwish has a huge set of gigantic songs and a couple ... middling ones, no one learns them all by name,
but I kno a couple people (me included) who just like to put on a playlist everyonce in a while and play Minecraft or.. anything.

Also, I sincerely doubt that half of the existing metal bands use growling as their primary vocals. While it’s not my preferred vocal style, I do know that growling the right way needs a lot of skill but it’s a different skill than clean vocals - which is the style that most people would call „real singing“. There is a reason why many metalcore bands have to vocalist, one who provides clean vocals and sometimes screams and one who growls.

Hello @ Trash Talkers! Nightwish Army incoming here, your reaction just appeared on our radar..
You both really enjoyed this legendary band performing in front of a 82k+ audience. Thank you! Stick to their live performances and you'll never regret it!
Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan:
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "

The Nightwish Army sends their regards.
Floor's (the valkyrie's) voice is some otherworldly force: growling, deep singing, operatic, that belting high note at the end... She does it all.
Keyboardist Tuomas (the magician) is the composer and I can't think of another word for him except "genius".
The guitarist Emppu (the bard) can shred with the best but he knows he's not the focus of the songs so he supports every song flawlessly and only shows his skills at the solos.
Marco is a viking lord of bass guitar with an awesome voice.
Sadly the old drummer Jukka (the pirate) left, partly due to days' long insomnia, but the new drummer Kai can keep up, no worries. Not sure if he has a nickname yet.

cool information I've learned regarding this song:
-This song was originally written for the band's first lead singer, Tarja, who left the group some time ago (there's a whole history and drama with their former lead singers that's fascinating in its own right), and that final explosive burst she gives at the very end was totally improvised by Floor.
-Originally the song was supposed to fade out a little more slowly and let the instruments take over on the way out, but the crowd chanting 'Floor! Floor! Floor!' inspired her to toss in that extra flair at the end, and everyone in the band fucking loved it.
-This performance is from 2016, but there's a recording of her very first time performing it with the band in 2012, and you can actually see the guitarist look up and grin when she belts those final few notes: He legit wasn't expecting it but he was so happy to hear it.
-That 2012 tour was where Floor joined the band almost overnight; she was originally meant to be a fill-in singer during their touring season because the previous lead singer, Anette, had gotten pregnant and wasn't going to be travelling with them. apparently some drama happened with selecting their touring singer, Anette threw a fit, and almost overnight, Floor became their permanent singer.
Nightwish has been around since 1996, and they have a crazy history with three different lead singers, each of whom has their own distinct sound and kinda defines an 'era' of the band. Their lead guitarist, Tuomas, writes and composes most of the songs, with the band members inputting after-the-fact instead of the fully collaborative style most bands take. Definitely a LOT to dig into if you wanna learn more and hear more. they've got 9 studio albums and 6 live albums at this point, and I don't think they've had anything I'd call a disappointment yet.

Great reaction! You guys would really dig Romanticide from the same concert. Heavier, but awesome. And if Smokey wants something a bit more melodic, they just released a new album, and Floor did an acoustic version of one of the songs, How’s the Heart, on Planet Rock radio (easy to find on CZcams. One of the best live vocals you will ever hear - brain melting. Enjoy!!

You just summoned the Nightwish Army!) Thank you for sharing your reaction! Subbed!
Well, you've just witnessed Her Majesty Northern Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen, she is Dutch). She has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. She is singing not words but emotions. And she is really tall, I mean 6'1 + heels.
Nightwish is a Finland symphonic metal band formed in 1996.
Floor joined Nightwish in 2012 in the middle of a world tour, and before that they had Anette as a frontwoman, and before Anette - Tarja (Tar-ya).
For Floor it was first really big gig with NW, 82K people, at the time she was only for a few month with the band. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at a 1hr 10min mark.
The bassist with a cool beard is Marco, and he sings some parts too.
The mastermind behind 99% of lyrics and music is a keyboardist Tuomas.
Guitarist name is Emppu, and the drummer in this show is Jukka (Yukka), but later he was replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues.
Flutes/uilleann pipes/guitar/vocals - Troy, he did not perform in this song.
Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs.
They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff.
For the next step, I can suggest listening to:
    - Storytime from the same Wacken 2013 live
    - for move heavy: Ghost River, Song Of Myself, both from Wacken 2013 also
    - If you want to explore more Floor versatility, check out her performances on a TV show Beste Zangers in 2019.
You just starting your journey with Nightwish, and be prepared to be surprised (and sometimes shocked) time and time again! Their music is very emotional and diverse.
Greetings from Moscow and stay safe! :)

1st!!! Nice reaction! This type of music is called Symphonic Metal. FYI: there were 82,000+ in the audience during this performance. GLS is the 13th of 15 songs that NW performed that night. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' From the same Wacken 2013 concert for your next NW reaction.. The singer's name is Floor Jansen. She is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013.

Them being symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the long epic multipart full production type songs like Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show on Earth.. Then they have several of the more classic thrash heavy metal style songs like Romanticide, Song of Myself or Dark Chest of Wonders.. They even have a very celtic rock sound going on in songs like E'lan or My Walden.. You chose, but the Nightwish Army loves it all..

I've been saying this for yeeeears: "Ghost Love Score" is the best 9-10 minutes of music ever composed! Only other song that comes close to being this epic is Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". I always love watching reactors discover their love for Nightwish when they watch this performance. And I get emotional every time I hear this song - but this, this will always be my favorite performance of this song.

Floor Jansen, blessed with an abundance of talent, and 30-ish years of practice and hard training. She does power training, works out, is super fit and has an amazing amount of core strength - just look at those shoulders, those arms. And she puts all that power into her voice.
