Hi Can you please tell me if there is area in Sacramento or Sanfrancisco California that is like Upper east side Manhattan in Which there are 3 or more Major hospital that are walkable like in UES Manhattan there are NYP, Mskcc, Lenox hill and other hospital in the same place. I’m not big on nightlife and prefer a more small time vibe, but I love the conveniences of being able to walk to many places and being a close drive to other entertainment.

I've lived in Sacramento for most of my life. Things I've noticed in recent years. The city has gotten recognition. The downtown area got better along with the nightlife. I've noticed shootings more often. Yes it's close close to places; Reno, Tahoe Frisco. That said it's still a sleepy town.

I moved from the Bay Area (San Mateo to be exact) to Roseville and it has been a huge cultural shock. It is much better living in Roseville since crime rates are much lower, the school systems where a lot better than that of the Bay Area. You are able to express yourself more feely too. Although I have enjoyed my time in Roseville thus far I fear that the trend in moving and higher housing prices can make Roseville like Sacramento.
What do you mean you are able to express yourself more freely?
I love it here, sun 300 days a year, excellent for riding a bike.
It always cracks me up that the locals complain about it so much.
Sacramento has changed drastically in just the last 2 years! I’m born and raised here. In the hood neighborhood of Del Paso Heights in the crack Cocaine era. Back then we still had a scene of community and pride. I’ve lived all over Sac and it’s so different. Crime, homeless, shootings, and the cost of living has increased. Sacramento suburbs are a bit better in my opinion. And inner areas like East Sac, Land Park and Tahoe Oak Park are nice but you can drive two streets over and see huge homeless camps. It has definitely changed.
You are so right.. When we lived in New York City there was always a noticeable and distant separation between the ritzy neighborhoods and the "ghetto" neighborhoods. I grew up in the projects in NYC and always dreamt of living in the suburbs. Well, here we are in Sacramento, living in the suburbs, but often times it feels like we're sort of still in the ghetto because just a few minutes down the road there's dozens of homeless living in tents or people living in dilapidated housing.
@@NursesToRiches From nyc myself. I look at the videos of California and to me it looks like the ones with the real money are reluctant or slow to offer decent buy outs in certain segregated areas where they can restructure and eventually with other efforts put a stop to the suburbain wasteland problem.
I’m guessing with the current market, the cost of these buyouts are too big especially for these one story shacks that are abundantly available and so some areas will be underdeveloped. That kind of housing and neighborhood planning made sense years ago when it was cheaper to build and gas prices were low but i would argue not so much now. The population in many areas I gather they are enough where local development can prioritized. And with that you wont feel like you need to be attached to your vehicle.
But its not perfect here in nyc, things can get pricey real quick. However, i think our public transportation is cheaper and just more efficient in terms of use cases. As you already know nyc is gentrified. Gangs are relics and Counterintuitively to some, Classical gangs like bloods or crips are likely the last things you have to worry about. There are worse individuals or groups that may or may not be connected to a gang. Lastly gentrification is probably on going but gentrification is better than stagnation.

You deserve more views and subscribers. It’s a bit of a bummer to hear about the crime rate because I initially commented about wanting to move here from Canada but when I compare your crime statistics to the less than 1% crime in my province(city) in Canada, I think I will choose safety first. Can’t be looking over my shoulders everyday or be so vigilant. But the salaries are insane. 🤦🏾♂️.
I don't blame you man... We have had a few things stolen from our front yard since we moved here 3 years ago. Just last year someone somehow climbed up 10 feet over our front doorstep and yanked our Arlo surveillance camera from the wall. Unluckily for us, the camera lost its charge the night before and I was supposed to take it down that day to put it to charge.
And, on another occasion we had a mentally-ill homeless man try to open our car door while we were parked in front of the post office.
Shit is real out here but we're from Harlem NY and I grew up in the projects. So, for me it feels like just another day lol.
@@NursesToRiches thanks bro. I am not too worried about petty theft or even hand to hand fights. It is the gun crimes that bothers me. Won’t wanna be worried coming back home late at night after a shift. We don’t even lock our front doors or car doors here in PEI province of Canada. Sometimes I even kinda wish there be just a little harmless crime just to have a bit of drama in the peaceful boredom but the con is that salary here serious is nonexistent compared to what you guys are earning that I feel it’s worth crossing borders but there is a big BUT. Time will tell but I think someone said east Sacramento is safe so maybe there is a kaiser in that area. Thanks a lot bro and God bless
@@vcnap there definitely is a safer Kaiser and neighborhood: Kaiser Permanente in Roseville, CA (just 20 minutes from Midtown, Sacramento). It's located in a suburb of Sacramento, less crime, great schools, largest shopping center east of the bay area, closer to Lake Tahoe, and they share the same contract with all Northern California Kaiser Hospitals (so the pay is the same as in Sacramento).

I would be more than happy to give you recommendations. How far are you willing to travel from the hospital? Do you have kids? If so, are they in elementary, middle, or high school? Also, how much is your budget? There are so many choices I can recommend but I can narrow it down for you further if you can answer at least a few of those questions.

I think 30ish minutes would be my limit on commute times. We do not have kiddos. Ideally we would like to spend no more than 2k including utilities. (Please let me know if our budget is unrealistic.) I've been looking on zillow and have found some promising listings for 2bed/1bath homes within a 10 min drive of the UCD Med Ctr, but I have no idea what neighborhoods are safe to live in.

@@marionavarro6043 hey Mario sorry to butt in but the 95816 zip code is awesome! I’m a sutter nurse that works downtown and East Sacramento is very safe and nice. We live near McKinley park. Good place to exercise and great walk ability here. There are many home options here too. Living near UCD med center can be tricky.

@@marionavarro6043 as Michael stated, the 95816 is in an excellent location because you have easy access to Midtown, Downtown, East Sacramento, restaurants, shopping areas, walkability score is high, and there are plenty of parks. But, also look into zip codes 95814, and 95818. They offer the same benefits. You can find 2 bedroom apartments for under 2k/mo and they are all within 10 minutes of UC Davis. Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be glad to help.
I was born and raised and Sacramento. I lived mainly in the Southside. I think the gang violence was worse back in the 90s.
Statistically speaking, the crime rate was higher per every 100,000 person in California as a whole back in the 90s. So your perception that crime was lower is probably related to the fact that there was no social media back then like there is today, so when crimes did occur, you rarely heard about them.
I wanted to go live in sacramento but it seems like you have to carefully chose the neighborhood and if i pick one far from work? Doesn’t seems to convenient! Thank you for the information
The problem with Sacramento is the increased amount of theft due to transplants with higher incomes moving to the area. And, unfortunately the budget for the police department is seriously lacking. We've lived in Sacramento for a little over 3 years and we've had our arlo surveillance camera, and some yard lights stolen in that time. It sounds bad, but I'm glad those are the only things we've had to deal with.
I'm very curious as to what neighborhoods outside of Sacramento you would recommend to families considering relocating.
I will be making a video about this very topic soon! But I highly recommend that you look into Roseville (that's where the biggest Kaiser in this area is located), Rocklin, El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Loomis, Lincoln, Auburn, or Elk Grove.
Does Sacramento have a vibrant nightlife with a lot of things to do or does the city close-up shop after 5pm?
Are the locals friendly and welcoming or do they prefer to keep a distance like the Seattle and Portland freeze?
Even though NYC is extremely expensive, it is very difficult to beat the wide diversity of people and food and many times once you make a friend there, they are genuine.
Sacramento has a very weak nightlife. There may be a handful of clubs, vars, loungers, and restaurants that remain open from midnight til 2am or 3 am. When we first moved here we felt like we were walking through an abandoned city (although a clean one) compared to NYC. It is rare when you will see the streets filled with people but they do have weekly events (like farmers markets, runway parties, dance parties, and others) in the streets of Midtown/downtown. The people here are friendly but the connections we made in NY felt so much more genuine than the knes we've made here. However, when we first moved here, we missed NYC every single day. It's all we talked about. But, after being here for a couple of years, and traveling back to NYC, we've realized that our lives are better here because we are able to travel wherever we wants, as often as we want. We also have a house we would have never been able to afford in NYC and our costs here are much lower than they were in NY.
@@NursesToRiches Last part is very true. Moved from the DC area abut six years ago. Work/life balance is better, commute is better, more places to travel to and real estate is more affordable. Found it has been harder to make personal connections as Sac seems more of a home-body stay at home culture whereas DC has a vibrant happy hour scene.
It’s cool for a small town. However Sacramento and liquor do not mix well so I wouldn’t stay out past 2 am
No kidding... 6 people were just killed and 12 injured in a shootout in downtown Sacramento.
I was thinking of moving to sacramento because im a state employee and theres a lot of jobs there for the state. My husband is a pilot and we have to start considering where we want to build roots, but hearing the school system isnt that great and the crime is high ill just stay in san diego.
I don't blame you. San Diego is a better place to raise a family in my opinion.

My partner and I are relocating from Orange County/LA area to North Sacramento soon and I’m very curious if the crime is worse or about the same? I’m really not wanting to leave the coast, but prices down here have made it impossible to even enjoy the area anymore 😩
The overall crime rates in both areas will be very comparable. But because Sacramento is a smaller city, it will feel like more crimes are committed here because you'll be hearing about them on the news all of the time.

This is really informational. I never knew about the high crime rate in sacramento
Yeah, Monica and I began to notice it immediately after moving here. Initially we thought "maybe we're just imagining there's more crime because it's a small city and whenever there's a report of a crime, we're gonna hear about it". But the fact of the matter is that there really is a higher crime rate and there are not enough officers on the Sacramento payroll to respond to it. I'm hoping this will change moving forward because of the high influx of people moving to this city, but I'm not going to hold my breath and we're just going to have to remain vigilant wherever we go around here.
Thing is , when you look up crime statistics for Sac you have to look up Sac County, their are plenty of neighborhoods exp: Carmichael, Citrus Heights, North Highlands, Rancho Cordova etc that become their own city but are really just neighborhoods of Sac and plenty of unincorporated areas that are in Sac that crimes Dont go towards the Cities statistics ..Sacramento is a County City kind of like LA ...it might say 50 Homicides for Sacramento as a City but really be around 120
You are 100% right about that. I did include some safer areas in the video but my comparison was mainly for people moving from NY, NY (Manhattan) to Sacramento (the city, and not the county).

I used to go to high school here in the early 90s. I moved out back in 1998. I would love to move back because of the beautiful and great weather! Dry heat is the best compared to the humidity of the southern states that I am currently living in right now. Opportunities is the next thing that I want move back plus, Sacramento always and will forever be my home! If I can find a job, I do want to move back! Is the job market there good?
You are definitely right about the dry heat. It is better than living in a humid place with similar or even slightly cooler Temps.
In terms of employment opportunities, the unemployment here is slowly returning to the pre-pandemic levels. Prior to the pandemic we were hovering at around 3.5% unemployment. At the height of the pandemic we reached 14.9%. And now we're at 6.8% and slowly declining. So, if you are planning to move back, your chances of finding employment are greater now than they were last year.
@@NursesToRiches Yes! You are right about the dry and humidity. Really? Around 3.0 unemployment rate is very good. Okay, it's good to know that the unemployment rate is getting lower. I hope it stays low so when I do decide to move back, I can find a job. I miss Sacramento so much. When I left, it wasn't as busy or growing at all. I feel like Sacramento is my home and I will come back to it in a ❤ heart beat. I just need to get ready and make my move. Not at all... The pay range is anywhere from $46/hr for new grads to $75/hr for the most experienced nurses (not including shift diff).

All Northern California Kaiser Permanente Hospitals pay the same rate.
Hi great video! Born and raised Sac girl here! Question are there other parts of NY that’s more comparable to Sacramento? For instance property or motor vehicle theft are they really comparable to NYC? Are there a lot of vehicle owners in NYC or suburb neighborhoods where property is easy to access vs NYC sky high apartment buildings? Hmm 🤔 just doesn’t seem like a city to compare Sacramento.
Hi there! The comparison is really odd but I made the video for nurses that are interested in moving from NYC and would like to know what differences or similarities the two cities have. NYC does have a lot of motor vehicles, though. In fact, there is so much more traffic there that it used to take me 40 minutes to drive 4 miles to pick up Monica from work. Also, NYC has plenty of neighborhoods with single family homes. Once you leave Manhattan, you will begin to notice a lot more single family homes where property crime does often occur but not as much as it does here in Sacramento. We have a lot of porch pirates here in Sacramento.

Oh, gotcha. Hmm, America is a very politically divided country, that's for sure. But there is so much more to America than what you see on the news. It's not all crime, drugs, and homelessness. Just like every other country, you just have to be mindful of the places to visit because you could end up in the wrong part of town.

I’m a nurse in NYC and you put Sacramento on my radar. I’m a balack woman and will miss the diversity of NYC. How diverse/black friendly is Sacramento? I appreciate your videos soooooo much.
I'm glad to hear you're considering Sacramento 🙂. In terms of cultural diversity, New York ranks #6 in the US, while Sacramento ranks #16. In terms of politics, some areas of Sacramento will have a higher percentage of Republicans when compared to NYC. In Sacramento, 44% of voters are registered Democrats, 32% are registered Republicans, and 19% declined to state a party affiliation. Compare that to NYC and in NYC you have 56% of voters registered as Democrats, 26% registered as Republicans, and 18% with no party affiliation.
When I worked in Roseville, I did experience some racism from my patients (my coworkers were awesome) but in Sacramento it's way more diverse and I have yet to experience any racism toward me.
Monica and I also currently live in the most liberal part of Sacramento, so it kind of feels like NYC. But here we don't have a wide variety of Latinos like in NYC. The only Latinos I ever run into are of Mexican decent, whereas in NYC you have Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Columbians, Peruvians, etc. So don't expect to have a variety of foods here like you do in NYC but, if you like Mexican food you'll have a Mexican restaurant to choose from in almost every block in Sacramento, lol.

south sacramento is the most diverse place in the country by neighborhood. i live in oakland now and people always say oakland is more diverse but thats false oakland is very segregated and sacramento is the total opposite its like south sac is 20% of each race
@@aaman6939 Oakland is extremely diverse despite it being segregated. And no, South Sacramento isn't the most diverse in the country.
Sacramento is extremely diverse. The largest populations are European American, Latin American, Asian, African American, Pacific Islander and Native American in that order. It's one of the most friendly areas especially for African Americans.
So glad your videos were recommended to me. I live in Harlem and want to move once I'm finish nursing school. I wanted to move to Cali but the wildfires and homeless issues have made me change my mind.
Hi Life with Lex, thanks for watching! Im glad you found the video helpful. We miss NYC every single day but we cannot imagone moving back to NYC until we are completely done with nursing. Being a nurse in NYC is one of the worse experiences of my life and everyone who has moved from NYC to Sacramento says the same. The work-life balance here is soo much better than what it was like for us in NYC. But, every state has its good and its bad. For us, knowing that work was a huge part of how we felt about ourselves personally and the thought of dealing with horrendous working conditions was enough motivation for us to move to Sacramento.

California is not part of the compact states. You need to apply for a California license if you want to practice here. I made a video on the steps you have to take to get licensed in, and move to, California.

As someone who lives in Portland, having so many places within two hours is pretty amazing. Not to mention the Capitol Corridor train to the Bay Area. In Portland, the coast and Mt Hood are an hour and a half but there isnt much developed. A lot of touring bands, big events, etc have started skipping Oregon for Seattle - three hours away. And its still chilly there. So Sacramento’s access to all kinds of sports, entertainment, etc in the Bay and the Sierras is a pretty great perk for costing pretty similar to Portland or Seattle now. The heat would be annoying but summer’s a good time to travel!

Born n raised in Sacramento but i now live in Houston Tx. For anyone looking to move to Sac just stay out of south, west, and north Sacramento and you’ll be fine lol. Elk Grove , El dorado hills, Roseville Lincoln, Auburn, Folsom, Fair oaks, East Sacramento are all the the good places to live near Sacramento.
You're right. I made a top 10 places to live in the Sacramento area and I listed almost every place you mentioned, lol.
Folsom and El Dorado Hills are the safest place out of all these places. Crime slowly trickled into Roseville a bit at times as well.

Hello! Would you say Sacramento is overall a dog friendly city? I’m hoping to move there in a year or two at most once my husband gets a year of nursing experience, but we have 3 golden retrievers and are hoping this is a dog friendly city. We are moving from Tampa, FL which isn’t the most dog friendly city unfortunately.
Sorry for the late reply. Sacramento is absolutely dog friendly! There are soo many parks (for dogs and humans) and we always see residents of this city walking their dogs.

The safer areas are going to be closer to Land Park/Curtis Park, Pocket, Elk Grove. Or you could work in Roseville and move to any area near there like Rocklin, Auburn, Granite Bay, Folsom, and El Dorado Hills.

@@RedFaceeee Sacramento is not nearly as bad as San Francisco when it comes to car thefts and vandalism so it's pretty unlikely. Especially if you leave it in a garage. We have a car worth $72k and we haven't had any issues.

Sacramento has a higher property crime rate than NYC simply because there is a car for almost every resident which are high property crime targets. Easier to burglarize a single family home than a unit in amulti-story apartment in NYC. Road rage murders happen on our freeways since it's the primary route for commuting, travel and where rush hour, traffic jam tensions can turn to violence.
Those are all very good points and great reasons for why crime is much higher here in Sacramento than in NYC.

Very true. Actually, Del Paso heights, Point West, and South Sacramento have statistically been proven to be the most dangerous areas of Sacramento to live in.

Damn, lol. But crime and homelessness is pretty much the biggest issue all across California and something really needs to be done about it or it's gonna get to the point where nothing can be done at all to fix it.
I can tell you about Sacramento the nightlight is totally dead, there is only a couple or restaurants downtown, some of the business are close up, Sacramento has a major homeless problem, the government politicians they whether have poor struggle mental and drugs an alcohol addicts on the streets dieting instead of building low income housing projects, it is high crime to be a smaller city in California lasting sacramento has a major race problem every race of people are welcome except black people especially a smart intelligence young beautiful black women, which are a threat to low confidence self esteem women. I don't like being negative, but for me as a black women I am trying to moved out.

Unfortunately, that, I cannot say directly because I don't know if it can lead to any legal problems with my employer. But I will say it's the highest paying hospital of any hospital I mention in my videos.

I’m a nurse in nyc making close to 60$/hr, the $ amount in Sacramento is enticing but safety is very important for me. So no, thanks. Not moving anywhere that crime rate is worse than nyc
Yeah I don't blame you. To each their own. We grew up in public housing, so our life here actually does not feel any different than it did in NYC when it comes to crime.
