True Colors - Original & VoicePlay side-by-side comparison

VoicePlay performed a beautiful cover of the classic True Colors by Cyndi Lauper, and I thought it would be interesting to make a side-by-side video of the original and VP's cover of it. Not to see who did it best, it's not a competition, but to compare VoicePlay's interpretation to the original. What they did similar, what they did different, what they changed completely. I did cut out some of the instrumental parts of the original, as well as some repeating chorus bits, as the video already is long enough as it is.
Also, I had to completely remove the original video, after 7 attempts of working against the worldwide copyright blocks I gave up and just replaced it with a picture.

I always appreciated the original but with VoicePlay's cover, I truly felt the depth of feeling and emotion. VoicePlay's version is supportively caring and like a warm hug.

I was a 80s kid/teen, so Cindy's version is like a pretty and very nostalgic memory... 😢
But VoicePlay's version is so rich and unique and all the guys sound like angels... absolutely beautifull and emotionnal ! The me of nowaday definitely likes it better ! 😊

Voiceplay's version is so better. I can barely understand the words in the original. Sometimes she overpowers and sometimes she barely makes a sound, whereas Voiceplay has an even mix of sound, not overwhelming or underwhelming.
I'm a Cyndi Lauper fan. But Voiceplay got me. It was very emotional, deep and beautiful. Thank you Huldra.🙏🤗

I was just watching the BTS for Voiceplay's version last night. Geoff said he thought that this was the only song they ever slowed down, at least the only one he could remember. The guys did such a great job showing the emotion behind the words.
First of all thank you so much for this huldra. I have always loved the song. When i heard VP version for the first time it was just this jawdropping feeling how amazing this song can sound when there are just tender, warm, soft and incredible voices singing. I don't miss anything in this special cover❤
I've loved the original since I was a kid, but VoicePlay made it their own in a beautiful way.
VoicePlay’s version is absolutely the best. The most tantalizing and soulful of the two…there is really no comparison. VoicePlay does a dynamic job and the staging with those amazing balls of color adds an even deeper texture to the whole experience. A++++++!!
Wow! Thanks for all your hard work in putting this one together, Huldra. I love this song ... and I love both versions. I'm an old fart so the Cyndi Lauper version is very nostalgic; however, this is one of VoicePlay's tunes that gives me goosebumps.

There is just no comparison.. voice plays arrangement and their voices just add a richness to the song and it was definitely needed!❤
In the original, I can barely understand half the words, and VoicePlay's version highlights the lyrics. Not to mention that their arrangement is so much more consistent with the message of the song.
And once again proof here: VP improves every song they touch - not everytime this much as with this one in my humble POV... excellently done and so underrated...😢🎉❤
P.S. and this is also an example of perfect articulation: I use these covers in my english classes - just because... 😂🎉❤

Oh... thanks Huldra. I didn´t know this Version (the Original) by Cindy Lauper. I thought it was from Phil Collins (shame on me). I absolutely love his version but if I had to choose between all three it would be VP!
I admire Cyndi Lauper for other songs, but in this instance it's clear VoicePlay makes a far better job. She is barely audible in patches.

VoicePlay's version is so full and beautiful. Just another example of loving the original but after hearing VoicePlay do it, the original sounds a bit dull.
The VP version sounds much better. They have polyphony, rich and beautiful sound. Their voices are clearly audible even when they sing softly. The singer has a frankly weak performance, if you compare the two versions of this song.
Cindy Laupers version is very nice but Voiceplay‘s version is so much more - so emotional 😢
I was startled to see Cyndi Lauper. I was expecting Phil Collins! VoicePlay's cover is closer to his version. I guess they've spoiled me. I don't like Lauper's version.
I don't compare covers to other covers, just to the original 🙂
