god doesn't do specifics (not complete, accurate, or useful information, anyway)
god doesn't do consistency (in spite of claiming to always be the same)

None of us knows the mind of God - if there is a God. Not yet at least. It's just that we shouldn't write him/her off. I mean lots of us do hope at least for something more than the trials and errors we experience throughout our lifetime. Wishful thinking you say? Maybe. Nevertheless, many search and seek and are frustrated throughout their life and they look for and expect some answers to the questions they have, questions that I believe, at some point, are on everyone's mind. Out of nothing comes nothing, right? I always look at events as if they were paintings or beautiful landscapes that we take in/experience as a whole, as complete scenes/events, not just millions of nonsensical brush strokes (or individual or randomly assembled parts, atoms, pixels etc.) that, if looked upon as just mindless strokes (randomly assembled parts, atoms, pixels etc.), have and should have no meaning nor should express or let us experience beauty or terror. The sum of the parts is more than the total number of parts. It's how I take in reality. It's magical I think.
Many do have very interesting (to say the least) experiences during their lifetime that to them warrant the serious question about what else is going on here and why, instead of accepting their personal life and the universe as randomly occurring and finite phenomena. I know that when you think about it rationally, it becomes very hard to hold on to some form of hope for or belief in the supernatural or divine, especially in the 21st century. But I seek nevertheless. I do believe in the use of the scientific method, and if we find things that we cannot explain or cannot yet explain, it doesn't automatically mean there must be a supernatural explanation. But maybe we are able to encounter a glimpse of something that lets us hold on to that hope we had at some point. Christopher Hitchens claimed there is no proof of God, and the proof of God with purely scientific means has not been accomplished. And if we would meet God, I am sure we would have a lot of questions and God in return would extend his/her appreciation to anyone for their tenacity to find the truth to the best of her/his abilities, even if that meant nonbelief during their lifetime. But maybe rationality can go beyond the scientific method.
We don't live 2000 years ago and we can't explore why people believed and why they died for that belief. But I believe it would be wrong to simply deride them as religious and simple-minded fanatics, especially when they lived a peaceful life and didn't invade countries or participated in wars - which, as we know, many religious fanatics of many creeds actually did do.
But what we need to do is adopt Hitchens' fervor to ask our own serious questions, research them honestly, with an open mind, and try to contemplate and possibly answer them honestly. Hitchens with his fervor debunked lots of bullshit present in many religious creeds, ideas and rituals that have plagued mankind for many millennia and even found their way into so-called secular systems like communist countries or Nazi-Germany where the leader cult really was a replacement of fanatic religious belief. Blind belief in a religion or in a God or in a cult or political leader or fearing them for irrational reasons and without thinking it through is just as wrong as saying I know there is no God without having asked and contemplated the most important questions that we have on our own personal mind. At least I believe this for myself.
Check out for example what we have learned so far about the Shroud of Turin. And please, do it with an open mind. Here's a very interesting conversation on it (see link below), but you will need to dig deeper to learn all about it. Almost every year, people try to debunk this and that fact concerning the Shroud, but a serious expert comes along shortly and shows the flaws of these often amateurish attempts. The Shroud has not been explained with scientific methods and it has not been debunked. For more information, you can also go to Bernie Schwortz's website shroud.com
Now here is that talk with Bernie Schwortz who participated in the examination of the Shroud back in 1978. This is a very recent conversation. Go seek. With fervor.

      1. Boats. You realize that there is terrestrial and aquatic life all over the globe, right? Humans aren't the only creatures on the planet. Are you saying that God should make sure we have transportation over every part of the earth so that we don't have to use our brains?
      2. Food. If we are take the premise that God made the earth and everything in it…he did make food, and there's lots of food out there. There are people who are starving, while other nations have an outstanding surplus of food. It's not God who prevents people from sharing food.
      3. Science. The foundations for modern science were built out of Christian theology. Maybe you've heard of a couple of the theologians who have made contributions to science, and studied science as a result of the understanding they held of the Bible and the natural world. Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, Roger Bacon, Johannes Keplar, James Clerk Maxwell, Robert Boyle, Leanhard Euler, Antoine Lavoisier, Gregor Mendel, John Dalton, Blaise Pascal, Albrecht von Haller, Samuel Morse…Maybe you get the idea by now.
      4. Humor. God made the platypus. Also, what kind of objection is this?
      5. Press Conferences. Moses? Melchizideck? The prophets? Jesus?
The Bible? You mean like those?
      6. Amputees. Jesus healed someone who's ear was cut off. I guess there doesn't need to be more said on this.
      7. Improvements. This is the first time I've ever heard someone say the human eye is an inferior thing. Technology has been trying for generations now to meet that standard. Plus, don't you believe in evolution and adaptation? Or are you one of those young earth atheists?
      8. Peace. You realize people are the ones that wage war, right? Also, 1 Samuel 7 immediately comes to mind off the cuff.
Or the routing of Attila the Hun if you want something outside of the biblical narrative.
      9. Obvious. I think you meant to say simple? And why should God be simple? People aren't.
      10. Evidence. So interpretation of evidence is the responsibility of every thinking person. Saying that there's no evidence for anything on the planet is rather silly, don't you think?

    • @TalladegaTom
      @TalladegaTom  Před 4 lety +6

1 - Boats. Nope. You missed the obvious point which is that "god" continuously fails to intervene in any way to tell humanity how to make a good boat to the detriment of people who boarded boats like the Titanic. Apparently, The Great Absent One chose to stand by and watch that occur instead of telling the boat designers how to prevent it.
2 - Food. Nope. Once again you missed the point which is that The Great Absent One fails to drop a little manna for those who are starving to death while desperately praying for food. Apparently, 'god' chooses to ignore those prayers and allows thousands of innocent people to suffer and die when it could drop a little manna or otherwise lift a finger to feed them.
3 - Science. Nope. The foundations for modern Science goes further back than Christianity. And nowhere, in any holy book, is there a good and proper method described for determining what is true and what is not. Go read your Bible and tell me how, according to that holy book, one is supposed to determine if someone is or is not a witch. Do you think that is a good method for understand anything/everything? Science was derived by humans to understand the universe around us and we have received no help whatsoever from The Great Absent One in doing so. In actual fact, one can easily point to things in history where religion(s) itself has stifled the progress of humankind's understanding of what is factually true.
4 - Humor. Nope. The 'god' of the Bible is consistently angry and wrathful all the time. There isn't a single good bit of humor in it. So, apparently by the evidence given in the Bible, 'god' is unable to muster any humor. Ans speaking of science, the platypus was not created. While it is a funny looking critter to us humans, it evolved into being just like you did.
5 - Press Conferences - Moses? LOL..... Be sure and let me know when The Great Absent One decides to go in front of the modern world with the cameras rolling so that all of the world would receive the same message in universally understood and unambiguous language. Because, it is LONG overdue don't ya think? *crickets*
6 - Amputees - So is this "Jesus" fellow just a one and done kind of guy or what? As truthfully stated in the video, 'god' does not do amputees. Show me one living example of an amputee that had his/her limb restored by woo woo and I'll believe in your 'god' in a heartbeat. As it turns out, the actual evidence is that no one has ever had their limb restored ever. The Great Absent One just doesn't do amputees which is just another one of those things that 'god' does not do.
7 - Improvements. Well, apparently you don't know much about the human eye then. Why do they fail so often if 'designed' and 'created' by a 'god'? I mean heck, is 'god' unable to make a decent human eye? Is The Great Absent One incapable or unwilling to update the thing? 7A - "god' does not do optometry. It took humans to figure out how to make eyes work with artificial lenses etc.
8 - Peace. Yeah, people go to war. I am merely pointing out the fact that 'god' never intervenes to stop any of them. Ever. It apparently stands by and watches the carnage. Some of which is done in its name. Peace is something that 'god' does not do.
9 - Obvious. Nope. I meant to say obvious for good reason. Any 'god' that exists and that cares about the problem of confusion and misunderstanding should be plainly obvious to all of humanity and it would make its intentions clear in an obvious and universally understood way. It's 'god' right? It should know how to do that. Why is it that EVERY single 'god' over the entire course of human history has chosen to remain 'mysterious' when being obvious and universally recognized would be far more effective at making things clear?
10 - Evidence. The clear lack of any evidence for any 'god' at all despite the myriad of ways one could easily communicate with all of humanity in universally understood ways, solidifies the position that evidence for itself is something that 'god' does not do. As it turns out, everything that we know to be true has a natural explanation. The things we currently do not know remain in the unknown category. When 'god' schedules a press conference to update any of that, do let us know.
      May 'god' b-less.

@@TalladegaTom So what you are really saying is you won't believe in any God that would not behave the way you do. That's a pretty high level of logical fallacy. I could spend time answering the claims you made, but I think it's not necessary, since you didn't say anything except exactly what you already said, meaning you don't have a response that is more intellectually developed than 'nuh uh'.
A little trip into the world of logic might help you for the future. Fallacies that were most common in your arguments come from what is known as informal fallacies. An informal fallacy is no usually internally inconsistent, but instead is a fallacy which is build on soft bricks, so to speak.
False equivalence, fallacy of division, intentional fallacy, Kettle logic, but the most pervasive, which is the heart of your argument, is a fallacy called "moving the goalposts." In the end, you just move the target for proof to something that you don't believe is a possible target. You didn't do it very well, honestly, since you didn't successfully move the goalposts far enough to achieve your goal, but even if you had, you were specifically looking for a way to redefine the argument in your favor rather than deal with actual evidence of the existence of God.
You simply wanted to deal with whether God was the way YOU decide he should be. It's probably why your video doesn't have a lot of attention. No one passes it on intentionally because it does not bring any value to the discussion.
