I'm an ex British soldier who because of PTSD turned to drugs to block out flashbacks etc. I stayed up for 13 days after injecting meth. Then I crashed out and slept for 3 days. After day 4 0r 5 I started hallucinating both visual.and audio.
Happy to report got a lid on the PTSD and drug free half a decade

Was at my 8th year of doing night shifts and my constantly drunk neighbors(with a non stop screaming recently newborn) just won't let me have a minute of sleep in those 3 days. It ended in the worst way. Smacked the guy in the mouth. Later that evening went to work in almost insane state of mind and withdrew 410 Euro payment instead of 4,100, i was out to lunch. Got in altercation with FO manager over it and got fired.

I have also done four days awake (though potentially I slept approx 10 mins per night) when I was in my early 20's (Not due to drugs etc). No hallucinations, however I did find that I would have time-skips in my cognitive memory, where I would remember part of a conversation, but not all of it (though I had apparently responded with basic responses)
On day four I was micro-napping, where I'd "blink" but my eyes would remain closed for 1+min and I'd jerk awake.
And there were definitely impacts to my health, my skin was dry and pale for a few days afterwards, emotions were heightened, but I felt wide awake and almost euphoric for the first few days after the initial 'lull', and for the first few days I was continuing to interact and do the same activities without noticeable impact to those observing me (besides potentially a slight lag.)

Was at my 8th year of doing night shifts and my constantly drunk neighbors(with a non stop screaming child) just wouldn't let me have a minute of sleep in those 3 days. I snapped. Smacked the neigbor in the mouth. Later that evening went to work in almost insane state of mind and withdrew 410 Euro payment instead of 4,100. Got in altercation with FO manager over it and got fired. I was out to lunch so bad that i only know all this from what people told me.

I think the story is not real. Regarding sleep deprival it is used as an interrogation technique. Myselfe I did hellweek in officer scool. We where not allowed to sleep. This was done by forced marching. What I can confirm is people start sleeping when marching. Strange they always walk to the right before stopping. Just standing. Its called micro sleep. People also start seeing things that in not there. We when allowed 5 minutes rest to sit down. How often I do not remember. Everybody started sleeping within seconds. Even when eating. Sleep was more important to the body than food and water. The exercise had to be cut after maybe between 40-45 hours. A few guys strayed into the forest to get some sleep. We had make sweeps to get them back.
This was in 1986, late autumn in Norway. Cold, dark and raining. Walking was an important way to keep us warm.
We did not get any drugs, but some coffein tablets to keep us awake. After that we got a minimum of 4 hours sleep a day. Some years later I was told the instructors doing this hellweek was almost demoted because it was sadistic and not safe.

We had something called a beret run in the winter time after the recruit. It was kinda like a hell exercise. Got only 2 hours of sleep during the first 5 days, no food, only water, and a lot of heavy exercises like carrying heavy stuff, crawling in mud, running up hills, setting up camp and then packing down again many times over. It was around 15 minus celsius and windy, and we had about 100km to go in mountain terrain over the course of 5 days. I dont remember the last 2 days, but I have a picture of me looking like a zombie from those days. I remember the tastiest burger when the week was finally over, and went to sleep with clothes and backpack on, when we got back to the barracks. The funny thing is, over 15 years later. I kinda miss that feeling of being completely drained of every reserves, and the taste of food after it, and the long sleep after. We finally got the beret and shed some tears of joy. It was priceless :)

First: In my country, libraries are shut down Second: there is no literature about so-called "russian sleep experiment", as it's origins are from the creepypasta websites. And last but not least: as a russian speaker I was looking for an actual evidence. That's why I was asking for a source, since I can't find any relevant one backing these claims. Dumbass

My dad was a granade launcher gunner as part of the Swedish "bara livkompani beredskapspluton" in the 80's (not sure how I'd translate that) basically "ready on the go at all time" type soldiers, they were called in when a USSR uboat had been spotted in Swedish waters and had to guard the coast, there were given some kind of experimental pill that keept them up for 48 hours and it made them very "alert" they were not told what it was but assumed it was some kind of heavy refined caffeine pill, but dad said he had suspected it might have been something waay stronger.

Four and a half days is about the longest I've ever gone without sleep (no help from outside substances other than some military decision making) and I do NOT recommend that at all.
The hallucinations are very real. Motor functions become almost nonexistent without muscle memory. Basic understanding of most things is much more difficult. It becomes difficult to just have a normal conversation. There are some very real periods of micro sleep, as mentioned in the video.
It's a strange feeling to be focusing as hard as you can on something due to lack of sleep and then suddenly you're waking up because you didn't realize you dozed off for a minute or however long it was you were out for.
Severe lack of sleep isn't a fun feeling. And sleep deprivation is one of the most effective forms of torture known to man. You can actually break a persons mind and make him/her insane with sleep deprivation.

That's actually not true. Unlike the rampant overprescribing of adderall nowadays, stimulants were really only prescribed in cases of narcolepsy and morbid obesity when it had become close to the point of it being fatal. Well, "Mama Elvis" was given Desoxyn (generic brand pharma grade methamphetamine) by her doctor, and considering she was too fat to move around the house, she depended on her son to assist her. Naturally, as most teenagers do, Elvis took a few to experiement with himself one day, and that eventually led to what we now know as a very high and sexually charged Elvis going 100mph on the Ed Sullivan show shaking his hips and shit while sweat pours off his face.

By resting even if not sleeping especially expelling thoughts as they come & keeping my mind as neutral as possible ( harder than it sounds though) I have failed too many times & had some very trippy adventures for short periods until I realised it was happening & was able to reset thankfully. There is NO doubt this type of experimentations will have been conducted by many governments in the world 100%. At no doubt some very high cost to individuals !

On the irish border running COP we were given 'spring lambs' to take when we the subjects we were watching were going to be raided and we were tasked to be the QRF for the raid if it went wrong.
timing was the key, we would crawl from the overwatch to up to the jump off point and took a pill on route.
they made you feel like chuck norris for about half an hour then you crashed big time, the problem was if you got the hit early while belly crawling across a plowed field in the pre dawn twilight.

There used to be an NBC and ‘Dig in Exercise’ during Phase 2 Training in the Royal Marines, called ‘Exercise Holdfast’ at week 20 if I remember right, that was a1 week exercise, with the first 72 hours digging 4 and 6 man battle trenches in Rocky ground with pick axe and shovel, no sleep, rotational ‘trench scran and whet (food and drink) duties, u didn’t stop working unless it was your detail to make scran or a whet fit that time. I was a section commander and remember at least 3 of us suffering severe hallucinations. Not sure if ‘Holdfast’ is still in the curriculum with the change in battle theatre and trend in Iraq and Afghanistan, as there were a lot of FIBUA exercises added to teach room/building clearance etc. can’t imagine battle trenches would’ve been a valuable use of phase 2 training for the Middle East. Although this does seem to be very fictional, if nothing else because of people living sfter removing organs, I’m sure @Jameson Travrls, aswell as many others that have experienced extreme sleep deprivation, will agree, the level of craziness spoken about is more than believable, although gas or no gas, I’m pretty positive, that medically, it’s not possible to survive 15 days without sleep (even 7 maybe) let alone 30, without sleep.

5 days was my longest sleep deprived stint, I slept for almost 24 hours when I finally passed out. Though I'm naturally an insomniac so days on end without sleep are pretty common for me. Going 48 hours without sleep is pretty normal and I usually only get a few hours of sleep when I do sleep. It's not rare for me to get less than 24 hours collectively of sleep in a week long period. Even when I'm working everyday. Plus when I sleep I rarely feel refreshed, I dream almost every time and they are so vivid I can remember every detail.
