I was at the Mellow Mushroom on the strip outside UT's campus.My family was visiting for that weekend and we were watching the game.There was one table with Georgia fans wooping over their apparent win...and when that ball was caught, the entire restaurant exploded.People stood on chairs and started singing.The Georgia people just got up and left and many people waved bye to them as they went out.

Galilee1964 I thought same thing when I heard that. I like ag the end how both announcers were complaining about penalties killing them just shortly before he said who cares! I'm a Vols fan and growing up Bulldogs were my 2nd favorite team. Damn during this game I got so tired of them playing the call from back in 80's with the boot nail breaking nose call. I'm just so glad to finally see the Vols get a miracle ending like this. In my over 38 years of life and being VFL I have saw way to many times the we got the ending like the TD Georgia got and then we don't get H.M. to win. only other miracle I actually remember was the 98 season and the Stoerner Fumble that gave us huge win over Ark to keep our National Title year alive.

When UGA got the excessive celebration penalty their announcers said “who cares at this point”. After UT came back with the Hail Mary, those same announcers automatically said “young team, a lot of penalties”🙂

It's also because they are the TEAM's broadcast and can show bias towards one of the sides. On TV the commentators have to be neutral, hence them not being as excited and such.

I was at work. Several of my UT fan coworkers had given up on the game. They missed the play of the game. I sprinted down the hall to tell them Tennessee won. They hurried to the TV to catch the replay, but missed it.
I remember watching this live and after Georgia scored I was thinking “Damn what a game, what a finish” and then it proceeded to further blow my mind

Exactly right. He should've been fired long before that game. He had no clue what he was doing, nothing more than a salesman.
Butch Jones was a thoroughly mediocre coach, but it's not about what most people seem to believe with their 20/20 hindsight.
This play did not save his job, contract conditions made it so that anything short of a complete and utter collapse in 2016 was going to keep him around for another year.
And he was absolutely not a salesman. He was terrible at that aspect of his job. His real problem is that he was absolutely obsessed with Xs and Os while being awful at anything interpersonal so his players made zero progress during their careers unless they took it upon themselves to do so.
But we did collapse, didn't you see every other game after this?

I remember watching this with at least 100 people. When Tennessee was losing it was deathly quiet and then when the hail Mary happened people outside thought that someone inside had died. That's how loud it was.
I literally was throwing shit around my house. I was so fucking pissed, my uncle straight up just left. I knew it was over. but I kept watching. Then some fuckinug magical angel or something guided that ball into that mans hands and somehow we fucking won. Truly unbelievable and something I wont forget
I know that it was 5yrs ago but, from a Gator, thank you Rocky Top! The bulldogs along with lsu, tide, fsu and ohio state all have the worst and most arrogant fans and usually players. As a long time Dawgs fan how I remember this game. Even though we lost it was one of the best finishes to a college football game that I've ever seen.

I agree it was a great game Georgia always has a good team, and I surely thought we had lost the game until that hail mary. I am a student at UT now but was still in high school at the time this game was played. We drove down there to the game and I was in the stands with some friends of ours that got us tickets...this was so amazing to see live.
Cassie Stewart Sports are about the struggle and the big moments. Sometimes they go your way and sometimes not. I am passionate about my team, but respect that in other people too.
My high school coach went to UT, and one of my teammates started at TE there all 4 years he went there. My Dad’s side of the family is from a tiny GA town right on the state line, so many of my relatives are staunch Volunteers. We tease each other a lot.
All in all there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of being there live when a big sports moment happens. My son and I were watching it from our home in Athens. I remember the euphoria from one moment and the shock and disbelief of the next.
I wasn’t a happy camper for a while that afternoon. But growing up a Dawgs, Falcons, Braves fan you learn to not get too attached to leads and deal with what I call “the day after” effect. Sometimes when you are watching you forget it is only a game played by young men.
Nevertheless, I hope we all get some sort of season this fall in spite of this virus. Nice to meet you and good luck.

I was in the stadium that day and it was so loud when Tennessee scored on that Hail-Mary that I couldn’t hear myself screaming at the top of my lungs. I sounded like I drank hard liquor and smoked 1-1/2 packs a day after that play. It was an amazing ending to a football game.

I was listening to Georgia's call, I took my little sister to go pick up pizza from Papa Johns (ordered carry-out, we both got back from the air show featuring the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds), from that moment I heard "And it is... caught... touchdown, Tennessee wins..." at a red light, my first thought was "THAT WAS HUGE!!!!"
