The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

I think Jacob is such a likable character because he's one of the few we can really relate to. He's just how the rest of us would be if we were thrown into the Magical world in such a sudden but.... delightful way. His comment in the case "I can't be dreamin'. I ain't smart enough to come up with this." demonstrates just that. This is delightful. Everyone else was introduced through terror, so their reactions are likewise understandable.
It’s also one of the few cases where they do the typical unattractive person right to where you can actually see her falling in love with his actual qualities and he is a likable man.
The book that Newt writes is actually one of the books Hagrid uses in his class, and Newt's grandson ends up marrying Luna if I remember correctly
Also, Jacob is just the best character of this three films xd

The problem is that you can never tell when something handmade is gonna flip. Kowalski ends up doing great, but many places don't. The bank has to protect itself so that it doesn't lose money. Asking for collateral is pretty fair
Especially after a world war and soon there will be a second- they didn’t know but still. And only a few more years late Great Depression. The early 1900s was a bad time for banks and economy. Yeah early 2000s have had a few bad years but thankfully not as bad.
It wasn’t too long ago that I sat down and watched Fantastic Beasts for the first time. It was very refreshing to jump back into the Wizarding World again after a long hiatus. Really fascinating film this is, amazing creatures, and Newt is awesome!
Welcome to the 1926 America and yes Wizardry world is different in America. 2 more films left and yes Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindwald and Fantastic Beasts Secrets of Dumbledore.

This movie is quite good for a prequel in my opinion. It takes place in the 1920s if i'm right. And there are quite a number of easter eggs to the HP movies. One of which is kind of a blink and you'll miss it is who Graves hands over to Credence a necklace bearing the symbol of the Deathly Hallows. The main antagonist of this series, Gellert Grindelwald, was mentioned and seen in Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 where Voldemort went to Grindelwald's prison to interrogate him on where to find the Elder Wand. There is history between Dumbledore and Grindelwald but u will find out in the later movies and a bit of it is also explained in the HP books as well. This movie's title is based on Newt's book that he wrote for first year students of hogwarts and there is actually a real copy of the book that u can buy in bookstores or online (but obviously is written by J.K Rowling).
This, in my opinion, is a very underrated movie... Btw, great video

Newt is probably my favorite character in the Harry Potter franchise, at least the movies anyway. Him and Jacob's friendship is so much fun! Also, I am a certified naturalist by the University of California Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources
I think the Harry Potter movies did a bad job of explaining really who grindlewald was so it’s easy to forget him when you first watch this movie, his story is a bigger thing in the books.
Plus I’m the philosopher stone book, one of Harry’s books he needs to buy before he goes to hogwarts is ‘fantastic beast and where to find them’ by Newt Scamander!
The moment when you realise that Hagrid got Harry out of the Dursleys house just in time. If his magic had gone unchecked and with only those few moments of unconscious release for much longer he might have also turned into......

What I love about Fantastic Beasts is that we get more background on the wizarding world especially back when Grindlewald was the “Voldemort” of that time, his history with Dumbledore, Newt’s love and devotion to his creatures, and the wizard culture in other countries like USA. Also Newt is an important figure in the house of Hufflepuff. I’ve taken my Illvermorny house test and got Pukwudgie the house that represents the heart and favors healers. 🧑🏽🦱🪄🦄💛🖤🦡

Did you know that Ilvermony's houses have magical creatures as icons? There're 2 shown in this movie; the Thunderbird(Frank) & the Wampus(Puffer-Leopard in the suitcase). The other 2 are a mythical(because only ever seen by the founder) horned serpent(Slytherin equivalent) & Pukwudgie(native american elf, Hufflepuff equivalent due to being founded by a No-Maj).
If you've watched the sequels you might notice that the movies were written without planning ahead from Fantastic Beasts. 😅

13:17 that creature you said you did not want to get out acording to what i have read is the most dangerous magical creature in the world.
The potion that Newt gives Frank the Thunderbird is what he was working on with the Swooping Evil venom that makes people forget bad memories. So Jacob getting hit with that was better than being obliviated. The good things he experienced became a dream.
Nifflers are like a combo of a platypus and a hedgehog which makes them extra cute. And I’d say they are more obsessed with gold than dragons and griffins.

Mr Gnarlack voiced by Ron Pearlman was one of my favorite things of this movie.
Now the magic world in America is going to be significantly different than Europe- Salem witch trails playing a HUGE role. Yes other cultures had an antiwitch thing and still do to this day, but for American witches they have mastered nonverbal spells and seen here very strict on interacting with muggles.
I love this movie as I know I would take all seven years of Care of Magical Creatures class

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is based on a book that is actually a reference book in the Harry Potter universe. Its like reading a book if you were a student at Hogwarts. So I was curious how they were gonna make a movie out of it. When I initially watched this movie, I liked it. However, the more time went by and I thought about it, the more I realized I didn't actually like it and I had some problems with it. First off, the setting was uninteresting. It was strange being in the real world where there were so many restrictions. Like come on, we're back in the HP universe, there's magic and cool creatures and you're telling me we can't have that?! It seriously annoyed me. Also, the whole subplot with Credence...what was the point of that? It honestly would of been better if it were a nature documentary showing all the creatures of the Wizarding World.

Grindewald is a name you should recognize from the deathly hallows movie :)
Honestly, you learn more about him in the one line from Philosopher's Stone than you do in the Deathly Hallows, which is wild considering that he was supposed to be an entire subplot.
I knew somehow Jacob wouldn't completely forget, because of a thing important to the Harry Potter plotline! Remember how it turned out that Lily's sacrifice automatically created a spell from love? Magic created from real love is a power that even most wizards don't fully understand, but Dumbledore suggests to Harry that it is extremely strong. So if a parent's love can create physical protection for a child in danger, then it's quite likely that Queenie's budding romantic love for Jacob (based on her being able to quickly see what kind of person he truly is & seeing that while he finds her physically attractive he also is immediately open-minded & is attracted to her entire personality) could create a protection of his mind from eminent magic which would endanger their love by erasing his memories. While they hadn't known each other long, they were both truly beginning to care for each other & neither of them wanted him to forget, so her emotional goodbye kiss spawned a sheild that would make his memory loss only temporary. Later when she sneakily checks up on him & discovers that his memory of the magical creatures is coming through, she realizes it's possible that the spell didn't fully erase his memories, that love might have created a miracle for her.
I just found out the lady that plays alpha in the walking dead plays the second Salemers lady in this movie.

Tbh I don't mind the watermark that much, when you focus on the image behind the text, the watermark sorta filters out and I forget about it.

C'est marrant parce que grâce au jeu " Harry Potter : Hogwarts Mystery " j'ai récolté des cartes de Chocogrenouilles où apparaissent certains personnages du film comme la Présidente et Newt.
J'ai même appris que certains sorcies peuvent faire de la magie sans baguette.
Queenie est une Legilimens, un type de sorcier qui peut lire dans les pensées mais aussi s'incruster dans les souvenirs des autres et le seul moyen d'empecher ça est de fermer son esprit. C'est ce que Harry apprend avec Rogue puis Dumbledore.
Il est intéressant de noter que Newt présente des signes d'autisme : il ne regarde pas souvent dans les yeux, parle peu sauf quand il s'agit de créatures fantastiques, et a dds difficultés sociales.
Moi qui suis aussi dans le spectre de l'autisme, j'ai apprécié cet ajout.
Au fait, si tu avais une valise comle celle de Newt, tu voudrais qu'elle mène à quel genre d'endroit ?

Me - How do you not know Johnny Depp?
I liked this movie and I understand why the president and her assistants were the way they were even it disgusted me and infuriated me, but to kill someone for something that doesn’t sound like their fault just seems wrong to me even if they were dangerous. And imagine if it had been the little girl like suggested. Would they have killed a small child too? I know they’re just trying to keep their community a secret, but to attempt to murder innocent creatures and then kill children just seem like an inexcusable crime. I’m sorry if I am being rude about it, but surely someone reading these comments will understand what I mean.

I liked this movie a lot. However, I think it was great as a standalone and didn't need to be tied into the stuff that follows.
Nothing against Depp, nothing against having sequels, but the next films are just terrible. I really disliked them. There's a very confusing subplot in the next film that made me think "were they drunk?"and a very dumb point of creating tension by(spoilers)making Tina mad at Newt for no reason.
Jacob is one of my favourite characters and Newt just bringing him along because he liked him was sweet.

This movie is good, also like the second (idk why it gets so much hate) but haven’t sat down and watched the third one myself. I did watch one person react to it and from what I saw it wasn’t great 😬
The second one was genuinely a mess. A complete flop in every way. Several parts of it made no sense. The opening scene with Grindelwald in the carriage literally makes no sense. I watched it in the theatre and at home and still was confused. I watched videos breaking that scene down and even they said it makes zero sense. 3rd one was better than 2nd but still a huge disappointment.

This movie is such a good one off, didn't need sequels, which were terrible. Depp so miscasted as Grindelwald.
