It annoys me to no end how levels like the first one can get so many boos. It's a solid level with all the boxes ticked - nice aesthetics, generous with powerups, no hidden tricks, checkpoint etc. As others have said though, people will often boo a level because they can't do it, or even sometimes just cos they die on it. I've had streamers boo my levels just because they die in a way they consider 'unfair' when actually it was just them failing a jump or something. It's maddening.
I can't help but wonder if that first level was a victim of some toxic streamer - booed the level, the creator argued back, and streamer got a load of viewers to go boo the level out of spite.
I've seen other videos where good levels were booed to hell as well which got me wondering... Maybe they are stolen levels and people boo it for plagiarism?
@@snakesandapes1550 From my personal experience, that's definitely not the case. Like I said, I've watched streamers boo a level of mine within 30 seconds just because they died. It's almost like a lot of people use it as a "fuck this level" button to press when they feel salty. It should go without saying all my levels are original.
Oh geez, sounds like they're probably not good streamers to watch then. It's ok to fail a jump in a game, it's not the levels fault. Sorry to hear that's happened, sounds really unfair and frusterating :/
The community is just simply unappreciative. Halo has a similar problem, beautifully forged maps and their creators are trashed and harassed by the community
I used to think that booing levels was a good feature to five feedback to bad levels, but things like this make me realise that it honestly was a bad feature. Just make it so you can only like the level, so you just don't if you dislike the level.
Difficult levels tend to be boo'd more often, and by difficult I mean even mildy difficult. Sometimes, that's all it takes.
I mean, that last level was _not_ 'mildly' difficult lol. And had 2 massive blind sections; it was that cheeky blurred line between 'Git Gud' and troll but the blind jump (and of course no Checkpoint) do it in.
The Creator just wanted to see people cry: no fun.
I think people only boo'd Magikoopa Manor because red coin progress isn't saved, but the level gives you enough power-ups for that to not be too big of an issue
@@asierx7047 Oh yes, the 'Pipe into Checkpoint' , that's true but yea the areas weren't too difficult and he had Good power Ups as you said.
This problem also exists in Mega Man Maker.

Someone said there was *one* softlock right at the start when entering the house but im not seeing it. I don't understand what the big deal is... its a solid level.. maybe players just got salty?

@@gnomeathome1736 It looked like there where over 30 outs to get an shell and next to that you could had easy died by letting the magikoopa kill you to go back to the checkpoint so it wasnt an softlock at all.

I bet there are also people or kids who dislike a course simply because they lose several lives in it, even if the course isn't actually too hard.

@@noname-jt6kl Lol, that makes no sense: softlocks nearly always don't show you the full path before it's too late so stop apologising for trolls.
@@netweed09 that soft lock isn't on purpose tho. It's one thing to have a softlock that's deliberately made to catch people and another that's so obvious that you only have yourself to blame if you go into it. This one was of the latter variety, used for decoration, so it isn't grounds for a boo.
The first level was so good because the most played levels often also have the most boos
The boo/like ratio was pretty bad too tho
How a level that is only beatable with a randomly placed hidden power up is not an auto-boo is beyond me.
Because it wasn’t randomly placed, it makes it obvious that something is missing, the block is perfectly in the middle of the last platform before a seemingly impossible gap. At least it wasn’t hidden in a random corner of the map is all I’m saying.
"Spikes can't hurt you if they're under the screen" is a lesson I will take with me right next to the ol' classic "every hole is a chance for glory".
Magikoopa Manor was such a solid level. How can that be one of the most Boo'ed levels?
I have a general rule about Mario Maker level quality that almost always holds true: If the level title is capitalized and otherwise written correctly, it's a good level. That's why I was surprised to see such a level title to begin this video about the most disliked levels. However, it ended up being good after all. (Why there were so many boos, I have no idea.) Likewise the title of the final level was properly capitalized, and it too was pretty good. For that one all the boos were because of the difficulty, as Dave said.
I think the reason the level had so many Boo enemies is because it was supposed to be a haunted house?
My guess on why these levels have so much boo’s is probably multiplayer versus. Many levels aren’t meant to be played in multiplayer and add the horrible online system this game has, it makes for a horrible experience
I had one person wrote a comment on my level to say "change the tag to single" apparently they play it on multi versus
Remember, a lot of boos doesn't mean people absolutely hated it - it just means that a lot of people disliked it just enough to give it a boo.
The abomination level really showcasing infuriating spike hitboxes
I feel like that last level relied too heavily on having to wait for things to line up. You can't just go fast. The end of it too is a bit trolly, since you're likely to run into the spikes because it's a blind jump, which I can definitely see people booing over.

From what I've seen, the problem with spikes is the hitbox. The hitbox is wider than the object, but you got past them. You got skills, bro.

5:04 it's not just with munchers, they don't dissapear if they are stack onto something or have something stacked onto them at all, even if the stack has only magikoopas

In my opinion the only levels that ever truly deserve a boo are levels that were **intentionally** made to be unfair and unfun, so like the 3D World level at 11:03 for example. I put emphasis on "intentionally" because little mistakes can always happen during level creation. A comment to tell the creator what's wrong is much more useful than a boo anyway.
I'm actually curious what the 12 comments on the first level were saying. I don't have Nintendo Online anymore and can't check, does anybody know?
I boo if: Unfair, bad trolls (like intentional softlocks, pick-a-path, etc), and dev items/exits. I don't really boo for any other reason.
So like that 4th level had a blind jump AND a hidden dev-propeller hat. So that would've earned a boo from me. If it was an otherwise great level, maybe I would've excused it (especially since the propeller wasn't super hidden) but it wasn't.
I once played an awfu level where there were mostly giant piles of useless objects and then there was a boomboom boss fight in an unreasonably tight space where frame-perfect movement was probably necessary and it was tedious to get back to the boss fight through all the useless transport objects like a pipe subarea that existed only to waste time and several teleport boxes and doors that did the exact same thing. I never got through that boom boom fight, because the space was so cramped it would take a world champion with memorized frame data or smth to jump at the right time in that tiny room.
Whoever would boo that first level is just a hater
The real reason why the first level got booed so much is because the level creator forgot to fill in a block gap above the second pipe.
I sometimes worry if super boo'd (but good levels) are some kind of pile on/bullying 😢

i created maybe 30 levels in mario maker 1 and 2 and almost no one never played it. 90% of levels are never played and never discovered, especially because the search tool is very limited, and the algorythm features more likeky popular creators, which share their creations with friends, to get this first pool of users, which is the key to get featured in any random expert mode next. if you don't have hundred friends or promote your levels yourself, you just upload them into a giant void.
If you like hot sauce, try Dave’s Insanity Sauce. For a bowl of chili, a toothpick swirl can even be too much for people.

I think the first level was booed for the final fight. simply because it's somewhat inconsistent due to how the blocks are placed. I can definitely see people avoiding a magikoopa projectile and dying from what spawns
Other then that, the first level, was pretty good and clearly had time and love put into it, even if there were a few inaccuracies (Potential softlocks at the start, and also making the mushroom blocks regular blocks instead of ? blocks.)
If you can find one, go to the pepper place, it's a store dedicated to hot sauce. I like the peper garlic fusion, but there's a lot of different types and the stores I've been to have sample spoons.
Also, when you run out always put some vinegar in the bottle, shake, and make hot vinegar. Hot sauce is basically pepper and vinegar, so it's just a little more sour than hot.
Putting vinegar in a bottle of hot sauce thats low is an EXCELLENT idea. I do this all the time with my Apple cider vinegar when my hot sauces run low. Great recommendation!

The HOTTER Louisiana hot sauce is awesome if you need more spice than just the standard hot but also like vinegary cayenne flavor.
Levels like that lat one really make me wish DGR used a timer. He says it took way longer than it needed to, but there's no way to know how long that actually was. They're not hard to set up, either.
I think first level has softlocks in the first screen and that got many ppl. It looks great after that.

Regarding the hot sauce question, I highly suggest trying out Harmacy Hot Sauce. You have to order it online, but their sauces are *phenomenal*.

I tried making couple levels when the games came out. I would have been thrilled about 70 boos. My levels got only 5-10 PLAYS total (and a like or two).
Using several hours making and testing a level and nintendp does not even give it to people to play more than a handful of times was quite demoralizing.
How do you see the # of boos on a level?

Honestly, I think Blind Jumps are one of the worst things people can do to a level.
For hot sauce, I love lots of craft sauces, however one of my all-time favorite sauces is Crystal. I love it to death, and keep like 4 bottles stocked in case I run out and forget to grab more. It's a bit less vinegary than Tabasco and you can taste the peppers a bit more.
Not too spicy either, and can go on pretty much anything.
Getting strong Path of Pain vibes from that moving spring jump in the last level.

One of my favorite salsas is Pain is Good's garlic flavor. They make hot sauce too but I haven't tried it. I should mention that the salsa is great on meat but doesn't work with chips
If you want to try Tabasco start with the scorpion pepper version. It has some of the vinegar but it has all the heat. It’s hot enough to always be interesting but not too hot to enjoy.
That first level was so good, don't understand the Boo count

Not the best levels, but some of them really don't deserve the boos! Some are almost comically bad though 😂
It's not everywhere everywhere but Melinda's ghost pepper sauce is incredible. Same with the Samyang carbo sauce in the pink bottle.

If you are just looking for something to add spice, the hotter dave's insanity sauces can give you a good tingle/burn while using a small enough quantity to not affect the flavor.
Not a big fan of most hot sauce FLAVORS (I HATE vinegar, and most hot sauces use it a lot.) So I can't give much advice there.

The first level is a huge case of 3 things jealousy someone else didn't make some look nice and function well. 2 They died and salty, 3 they think its plagiarized or something. That first level is very nice honestly.
