Unboxing | How do the Superior Labor and Galen Leather A5 natural notebook covers compare?

- Hello, friends. I wanted to share a bit of a different video today - a stationery haul! One of my favourite self-care activities is spending time in my various journals, writing, dreaming, drawing, and planning. I recently gave in to my Hobonichi curiosity, and I immediately fell IN LOVE. I’ve been working with a January start Cousin and their 5-year Journal. Eventually, I decided it was time to protect them. My indecision between TSL and Galen Leather’s natural leather covers led to purchasing both to try (I miss seeing things in person). I have plenty of A5 notebooks, so I knew they’d be used and well-loved! They happened to arrive on the same day, so I decided to film my unboxing of them and compare the two very similar yet different A5 covers.

The dye for leather usually makes the leather more stiff. It also can be a higher oz for the pen case which all can lead to that feeling. I do love the look of superior leather products.

I’ve been using the TSL one daily for my hobonichi Cousin and I love it so much that I’m going to get another Cousin in 2024 instead of the HON versions (as tempting as they are 🥹). I’m planning to use the Galen cover as a subject notebook once I have a bit of extra time to sit down and start studying my chosen topic 😅

I don’t like at all that Superior Labor has theirs upfront right in the center.

I understand what you mean about the logo! I hesitated to buy the TSL cover because I preferred a plain front cover. At the same time, I prefer the feel of the TSL one a touch more than the Galen Leather cover. My dream scenario would have been to use the Galen cover for my 5-year and my TSL for my Cousin (or vice versa). I'm still sad it didn't work out this way! I ended up buying another cover for the 5-year and regret it. While it is larger than these two covers, it still doesn't quite fit, so I'm hanging onto the hope that it will eventually stretch and mould to the 5-year over time.

You’re right - it is on the extravagant side 😅 hopefully, these upfront costs will pay off in the long run if they protect my notebooks and age gracefully along the way. 🥰
