    When that happens to me, I’d prefer to stay in bed so I tell myself it’s okay to be awake and that it’s pleasant to observe the quietness and peacefulness of the night, as well as being next to my husband and feeling cozy and safe…
    I can usually fall back to sleep, but if I can’t, I know and understand it’s not in my control and that’s okay too!

      Sounds absolutely dreamy, Pat. I find a peacefulness to the night, too. And you are spot on about being able to control sleep : )

    Thanks for the discussion. I think Self-Kindness is it. However, that is not something a perfectionist is wired to do, so I have my work cut out for me. I think the other thing that came to mind as I listened, is I still have a deep seated belief in the need for sleep. I have seen all the videos and read books where they talk about how its OK to lose sleep, and not sleeping won't kill you, and you can go for weeks on 4hrs of sleep, but I still don't seem to truly believe it subconsciously. I think if I could believe that, my problem would be over because it wouldn't matter. If I sleep or don't sleep, it isn't affecting my health in the long term so no big deal. Though that is hard for me to internalize.

      Hi Tom, you are very welcome. And you are so right about self-kindness - giving ourselves the same compassion we would give to someone we love, or a young child. Meeting ourselves with the same grace we give the rest of the world. Also, just being able to recognize when those thoughts and patterns show up in our lives knowing they are just deep-seated survival patterns that aren’t necessarily true. Because the truth is you don't need to be anything or anyone to have sleep, you can have it exactly as you are.
      It makes total sense that you would have an unconscious fear about the impact of losing sleep because that is the message we see everywhere in the popular press. If you’ve read all the books and watched the videos, then you know that there is no real evidence that loss of sleep causes any negative health outcomes. Maybe it will help to know that I am a real, live walking example of someone who had insomnia for 42 years yet I feel healthier than I possibly ever have.
      Thank you again for sharing your experience with us, Tom 😊

    1. Is there any possibility of pricing the app according to ability to pay? I don't see how I could afford this at $330/month.
    2. Or do you ever work with insurance to get the app or other coaching paid for by them?
    3. Is the app helpful for those who primarily have issues staying asleep rather than falling asleep? I felt like its intro questions really didn't fit my issues.

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Josh and thanks so much for posting these questions here - it helps so much to reply to many who may have the exact same ones!
      1. We don’t have a sliding scale, but I know of a great coach who does: Trevor Youngquist. He’s been a guest several times on this channel, you can find him under the Talking insomnia playlist in the description of any new video.
      There’s also an app that is very similar to BedTyme called Dawn. I think their price is lower. www.dawn.health/
      Finally, there’s also our own Immunity program which is $139 per month. You can learn more about this on our website.
      2. No, no third party payments. However, it’s possible that you can get a reimbursement from your HSA.
      3. The answer here to me is this: one of the most helpful things to learn is that insomnia isn’t a sleep problem - it is a surface manifestation of fear. Just like we have palpitations and sweaty palms and racing thoughts when we are scared. These are normal in the context of fear, and so is choppy sleep.
      Now how insomnia is experiencing, whether it is trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, paradoxical insomnia, feeling unrefreahed… this really doesn’t matter, these are all just surface manifestations.
      And when we look at the deeper levels, and the fear fades… then there’s stillness at the surface regardless of how the fear manifested itself.
      Josh! Did this make sense and answer your questions?

    That happened to me this morning...I wanted to go back to sleep n then the alarm went off...this is something I still have to work on..my brain seems to come alive n active as soon as I wake up ..im trying to figure out how I can slow it down

    • @theholisticsleepcoach
      @theholisticsleepcoach Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Rudy. I've always a bit envied those that can feel alert so easily in the morning because it takes a little time for my brain to come alive!
      If you don't use an alarm are you able to sleep later? If you are using an alarm, could setting the alarm to a different ring tone, or perhaps not as loud, be helpful if you are wanting the option of getting some more sleep in the morning?

  • @gabriellaacheampong3687

    Once you break that pattern , will it be much easier to fall back asleep?

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  Před 2 lety

      Hi Gabriella, just jumping in here because Michelle and Beth don’t get notifications. I’ll just say that when I get this question, I reply that trying to break the pattern IS the pattern, or more often that trying to break the cycle IS the cycle. And that when we aren’t trying to break anything, then we are in this kind and gentle and peaceful place where sleep happens easily 😊

  • @gabriellaacheampong3687
