    All three jets are great pieces of engineering. The Boeing and Airbus are larger than the Superjet 100 and is really in the realm of the Bombardier and Embraer regional jet classes. After looking at many video clips and reading up on the Sukhoi Superjet, I have to say, in my opinion, the Superjet 100 wins hands down. Though the Superjet is a Russian jet, it is really and international jet if you look at all of the components which makes up the Superjet. I am not saying anything negative about Embraer or Bombardier because they do make top notch aircraft in the regional jet category. When you look at price in the equation, you can almost, and in some cases can, buy two Superjets for the price of one of the other two competitors. Sukhoi had Boeing as a consultant on this project and other top names in the industry. It is too bad American companies do not invest in this aircraft because they would be getting more for their money. I believe politics is greatly involved here and hopefully things will change here in the near future. Sukhoi & Russia came up with a winner on this one.

      Actually, they didn't. The problems are many. First, the engines. Those engines won't get certified for a number of reasons (some being politics.) Second, and by far the biggest problem is that Sukhoi lacks a distribution, maintenance and training network around the world. Operators would expect parts to be delivered the day after they're ordered without excuses and need mechanics, tools and knowledge of maintenance to be commonplace wherever they fly, which doesn't exist. The last problem is production capability. Operators don't want to buy 10 aircraft a year. They need the factory to meet their demand on time because time is money. Right now, Sukhoi cannot produce these aircraft fast enough to deliver a lot of them quickly. Moreover, they cannot produce parts fast enough to supply the aircraft already in service while producing new ones. Those are their biggest problems. They are a one trick pony that can only produce enough for Russia and even then, not for all the airlines who want them.

      And it's a double shame because it exists in the niche with a deficiency of planes in it so it could have easily conquered it. I hope UAC learned their lesson and MS-21, Russian answer to B737 and A320, will be "arranged" more responsibly.

    Why are you comparing these aircraft? The SU-100 is a regional jet. Its comparables are the Embraer E-190 and the Bombardier CS series or even the Boeing 717 or A318. Certainly not an A320 or 737.

      The A318 is by no means a regional jet.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 Před 7 lety +9

      Actually, it is by most means a regional jet. The 318 was developed for the 95-115 seat market. Its maximum passenger load being 132. The low MTOW version was developed to compete with the Boeing 717, which was an updated version of the DC-9 made for low to medium density hops between small to medium sized airports with low levels of ground service. In fact, the reason why the 318 did so poorly in sales is because regional jets from the Embraer and Canadair families appeared and were much easier to service compared with the high up A318. Remember, the E-195 is designed for up to 124 passenger while the CRJ-1000 goes up to 100 seats. The Bombardier C series CS100 seat up to 133. The higher operating cost versus its competitors and the fact that it was so high off the ground, requiring baggage lift machines to operate are the reasons it didn't do well in the market.
      Because of the aircraft's high MTOW version, it has done somewhat better than Boeing's replacement for the 717... the 737-600 and it sold a few as a VIP jet and to a handful of airlines, including British Airways, which uses it out of City Airport in London, an airport which only allows regional jets.
      You really should read up on the subject before commenting.

    • @Quasihamster
      @Quasihamster Před 7 lety +3

      Let's say it depends on the definition. Capacity is one point, but range is one other. The A318 is capable of transatlantic flights after all. However the definitions most likely are about to change in the near future anyway, as the 737 MAX will be able to cross the pond as well AFAIK.
      LCY allows only aircraft capable of steep approaches, which is not the same as regional aircraft - although most (or all?) of these meet that criterium.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 Před 7 lety +2

      I don't know about how you personally classify aircraft, but the airline industry classifies aircraft by maximum capacity. A Cessna Caravan can fly transatlantic. Range is a function of weight versus fuel burn and you can always increase your fuel tanks, which is what BA did with their A318s, which are actually technically 318 business jets. They have extra fuel tanks AND reduced weight AND still land in Shannon to refuel when west-bound. The A318, is not, by any means a "transatlantic" aircraft. On the other hand, you simply cannot fit more seats than the aircraft is designed for and have it certified. That's why it's the seat capacity that classifies aircraft and in every industry publication, you will see the market and aircraft classes being described by their seat number.
      By the way, many regional jets and A318s cannot do steep approaches. BA had a few of their A318s reconfigured for this. There's an interesting article about the certification for the new CS100 you may want to read: atwonline.com/manufacturers/bombardier-completes-cs100-flight-between-london-city-new-york-jfk
      The CS100 is specifically building the aircraft to be able to replace the A318s for the LCY to JFK route. The CS100 is the same size and capability as the A318.

      What cooperation? Sukhoi is simply being advised by consultants from Boeing. There's no cooperation and it will never be a successor to the 737-200 or the 500 because there was a 600 series to do that AND A318 and they didn't sell well. Regional jets such as the CS series from Bombardier, E series from Embraer and the MRJ series from Mitsubishi will be servicing most of the world. Sukhoi can't get certification or ramp up production enough to satisfy any orders on time. They would also need better engines and a supply chain.

      Winglets
      are set to reduce the dynamic resistance of the aircraft caused by air flow from the high pressure zone (under the wing) in the low pressure zone (above the wing). Dry solved this problem saving on weight when made wingtips rounded, so the air in the zone of the seal on the front of the wing moving along the wing sweep blows disturbed flow over the wing area, and the problem is solved without the dynamic resistance winglets. At the same time, aircraft have saved on weight and drag to performance improvement.
      It's funny to read such comments. Sukhoi Design Bureau, as of today, is the best semilong in the world in the field of aerodynamics. You have the Su-30/35 put winglets offer ... Laugh.

      Lie. The first Airbus to use winglets was the A310-300 in 1985. The first Boeing to use them was the 747-400, which also came out in 1985. The first Tu-204 flew in 1989. Even the A320 had fences in 1987.

    They aren't competitors, so I can't choose. The 737 is the world's most popular airplane, and can do anything from short hop to medium haul.
    The A320 competes more with the CRJ & ERJ aircraft that serve smaller regional airports... It was designed to serve European destinations a few hundred km apart, and at that job it's quite good, but I can't imagine riding in one for the longer US & International routes..

      Have you ever seen live Superjet 100? We fly it? ))))
      Superjet-100 is a regional jet that has inside dimensions of medium-range aircraft. Many airlines in the world to buy the Superjet 100, precisely because it is one of the rare regional aircraft passenger cabin where the dimensions are equivalent to medium-haul aircraft.
      You have to fly on a plant ATR-72, then on Embraer-190 and then on the Superjet-100, that's when you will be able to compare how good the Superjet-100. A-320 and 737 medium-haul aircraft is surprising that the author of the video is trying to compare them with the regional 100.
      The representative of the Mexican airline InterJet who bought Superjet-100 said, "we bought the regional aircraft because of the medium-range passenger shifting her A-320 in the regional aircraft does not feel any difference in comfort in favor of the A-320."
