  • This is an Raglan Slide Dump Trailer in operation. The box slides forward so It can legally carry the gross weight with out getting an miss load ticket for not having the weight distributed properly . Example this legal load in more than two quad axle dump truck legal loads.

    It's easy to make an end dump trailer look good at its job on nice level ground like you have here (if you ignore the cycle time of this behemoth)... but I've gone into sites where I felt down right scared to put a normal 40 foot body up in the air.
    Not to mention... the frame on this thing looks like they stole it from under a railroad trestle... what's this monster's tare weight?
    Seems to me you could build an ejector of some kind at a much lower tare weight, getting much more in payload, and remaining safer from the possibility of rollover during discharge.

    He did say over twice as much as a quad axle ! But the ground where you are going to dump better be LEAVEL, and you certainly could not be driving & spread ! Good for long hauls . Larger hydraulic lines & a bigger pump with a return bypass would facilitate faster operating cycles

    OK...different axle weight laws to what I am used to, but seems to have way too many axles. How the he'll do you navigate city street corners without destroying tyres??? Sliding trailers I understand, but with the extra weight of the hydraulics necessary, a fixed chassis tipper would be lighter on tare weight and proportionally bigger payload. Not criticising, just wondering.

    • @philherbox4052
      @philherbox4052 Před 4 lety

      That setup has a payload between 35 and 40 ton depending on the tare weight. That setup is recognized in a few northern states for the extra weight. Michigan, northern ohio, northern Indiana and all of New York state. That's probably a 42 or 44 foot long box on a 48 foot frame and that's how it meets the bridge formula requirements.

      No truck with air has an air governor it does not exist. There is an air pump with a pressure shut off valve which is why it cycles in and out. This also indicates that the air system is working properly. Governors are controls for engine revolutions and thus vehicle speeds. They have nothing to do with air systems.

    seriously, i was expecting a lot more dirt to come out the back. the bottom of the tipper needs to be flat. there's probably a rule that forbids it. there are a few cubic metres lost because of that. lots of engineering probably only required because of michigan rules. and a higher centre of gravity too. gee, some of those tyres are going to get some severe side scrubbing. bloody long wheelbase. is this an out-of-town only truck? i'm having trouble working out how it is going to handle the usual car-driving idiots on city streets. it looks like the average semi trailer tipper in perth, australia has a much shorter wheelbase and near the same carrying capacity. and safer dumping on uneven ground.
