WHAT- A- PIECE -OF-HISTORYYYYYY!! Wow I had no idea this existed. Only 150K views? What a loss for the music world that more people did not see this performance. Time capsule in American history for what this song meant to us back then. Great job Kings!!
SAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMEEEEEEE HEEEEEREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS MY MOM'S FAVORITE SINGER AND I ENJOY BOTH VERSIONS BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD BOTH!!!!!
Bruce was "of age" during Vietnam -- and a number of his childhood friends were killed in the war. As he said in his autobiography, he's always had a kind of "survivors guilt" about escaping when others didn't. His passion and anger are real and palpable when he sings this -- as when he sings Credence Clearwater Revival's fabulous "Fortunate Son." Of course (despite what idiot politicians think) his "Born in the USA" is a stinging rebuke to America not only for fighting that "conflict" (the war in Vietnam was never declared a war) -- but also for the way our country then turned its back on those who served there. Also want to note that Bruce has always "walked the talk" -- has always been a huge supporter of Vietnam vets groups and esp. of those wounded in Vietnam. First saw him in the gym at Santa Clara University in 1975 -- watershed moment. Now that I'm 64, it's enormously gratifying that my college rock hero proved over many decades to be not only as great an artist as I believe he was then, but also a GREAT HUMAN BEING.
@ Janice Lovell Glad to have you back Ms. Lovell. As a proud U.S. NAVY veteran I salute you ma'am. PO3 '73>'77 I missed going over there by the simple virtue of my youth. ✌🇺🇸
This one and "For what it's worth". Actual songs now , here, at present. Good to read that you made it till now. You must have been through a lot of very bad things, also when you came back. Cheers and love to you. Thought and prayers to Ukraïne.
Had the Honour of living with former Vietnam Vets who were still Recovering Years after returning from their loyal duty. These dedicated souls never anticipated the Sacrifices and Personal Challenges that they faced. We Must STRIVE to STOP and PREVENT WAR not supporting or enabling them, IF POSSIBLE. Thanks for reading my thoughts.
Yes awesome ain't the word. I've had the Honour of working with Edwin and being managed by him. I've co written music with him along with my musical partner in crime Alan. A true gent, a real friend and just a general nice guy to be around.
+Wayne Hughes -Wayne, what a nice thing to hear. I am sorry I never saw Edwinn i nconcert. he had one of the best voices, ever. Anyone I have seen on the internet that has covered the song 'War" has never done it justice. that is Edwinn's song. Man. what a voice. and he sounds like he was a great man. God bless him.
After almost twenty years of wars; this video should have over 200 million views. Too many young people have their heads up their asses, using credit cards to buy crap online, too busy to even know that we are at war, including my young son, who is too darn materialistic and selfish....I hate it that we old people have to depend on them for our future. They could't change a light bulb, ask "Mom, Dad, can you put a new light bulb in the ceiling light for me?"
On this day in 1986 {November 22nd} "War" by Bruce Springsteen entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #45; and on December 27th, 1986 it peaked at #8 {for 2 weeks} and spent 11 weeks on the chart... The song originally charted by Edwin Starr; and on August 29th, 1970 it reached #1 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... In early 1970 it was originally recorded by the Temptations, it appeared on their 1970 album 'Psychedelic Shack' but was never released as a single...
When Bono inducted Springsteen into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, he said Springsteen's voice sounded as "if Van Morrison could ride a Harley-Davidson."
No matter who sings it, they are totally right. Wars and Violence are main contributors to most of the problems facing mankind. Play the Pipes Of Peace @ Not War Games!!

I know that. Starr made it his song, due to his interpretation... Just like Bonnie Tyler made I Need A Hero hers, despite it having been written and arranged by Steinman and Pitchford...

Then again, when this video was made, Bruce was a huge huge star, and Edwin Starr hadn't had a hit for 25+ years. Bruce gives him full credit, "the man with the song!" and Edwin seems to be having a blast.
First and foremost Edwin and Bruce were great freinds , music has no barriers , his U.K. band are still going strong , hottest multiracial soul band in the U.K. now , lead by his brother Angelo Starr , Edwin was a real nice human being , at the time of this video , he was in the states on business, with Lillian his manager , in the U.K., I knew Edwin , went to his mangers funeral, and drove for one of his bands members , black and white never comes into it , that’s why Edwin was loved by everyone he met and touched
Edwin kicked Bruces ass off the stage. The same way B.B. King slaughtered Bono in "When Love Comes to Town.".Chit it out on CZcams-. I still love Bruce and Bono. They are all great.
I saw these two sing this at Bruce's 1988 Wembley Stadium gig. Superb.

Came back from Vietnam 50 years ago. This song still resonates with me. Great job by Bruce & Edwin.
Edwin wrote and sang it first but Bruce did a good cover

Wow.. audience shot..no auto tune..no remix..totally amazing live vocals! KICK ASS!
In very VERY loving memory of Mr. Charles Edwin Hatcher (1942 - 2003 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
Look at Bruce, he's having the time of his life!
Lol can you blame him?
This is not a fun song. He may be having the time of his life, but go do it somewhere else.

Elimination of the mandatory draft contributes to indifference.
Bless the individual who taped this, you have preserved an iconic moment never to be repeated again. I'm STILL watching this!

Another fantastic duet to experience is Pavarotti & James Brown.. "It's A Man's World" ✨💛💥👏👏
Not many vocals can match up to "The boss" but this guy - wow what a voice. Cheers fae Bonnie Scotland.
When Bono inducted Springsteen into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, he said Springsteen's voice sounded as "if Van Morrison could ride a Harley-Davidson."
Rest in peace, Edwin Starr
I ALWAYS LOVED HIS VOICE, SO POWERFUL AND PASSIONATE!!
Star was one on Motown's hidden talents, he didn't get nearly as much attention as the other male artists. Neither did Shorty long.
Bruce is a musician's musician. Just top notch through and through.

this is the last time i want to hear Springsteen sing this, Any one else's version has never been that great. it Edwinn Starr's song, period.
Obviously Edwin Starr thought Bruce's version was pretty good-- he seems to be getting into it here.

Was this Aston Villa, Birmingham UK about 1985/6? If so, I was there...
How right
Bruce and Ice-T should perform that song, too.

Can't let a Black man have no spotlight...lol
+tom11zz884 It's a Springsteen concerts, FFS. Do you think Bruce would go to an Edwin Starr concert and take over?
+tom11zz884 -i agree. Bruce Springsteen does not have the voice Edwinn Starr had.
yes

Right on Ace.
He did.
Are you watching and listening Mr. Putin ??????
Springsteen looking as constipated as ever trying to belt out a mega hit by the amazing Edwin Starr. R.I.P. ES
Bruce Springsteen could have taken a backseat to Edwinn Starr, Edwinn Starr, what a voice. I am no fan of Springsteen's but this was fun.
