When anyone asks me about Vancouver I can honestly hand on my heart say, it’s one of the best places I have ever ever visited.
Why?
Quite literally, the atmosphere. Vancouver’s clean air is thanks to it’s really close connection to nature. There are mountains and forests surrounding the City, and the Pacific ocean is right on the cities doorstep. Here the great outdoors isn’t just a place, it’s a way of life. But it’s a modern City waiting to be discovered as well. So in this guide, we’re going to help you make the most of it! We’re going to look at food, money, transport, and a whole lot more, but first let’s get from the airport.
Vancouver International airport is less than 10 miles from Downtown area, and is Canada's second busiest airport, after Toronto Pearson International.
Getting between the airport and the City Centre is relatively straightforward - a 20-minute taxi ride will cost around $45.
Another way into the City is the SkyTrain - it's a bit like London's DLR with driverless carriages, you take the Canada line for half an hour or so, and it costs around $7.
Vancouver has an extensive public transport network, as well as being a really easy place to dive. Here’s what you need to know:
Now it’s not often that we can tell someone to drive a car through a major City, but in Vancouver drive away until your heart's content! We hired a car and cannot recommend it enough. Thanks to the Cities grid system, wide roads with plenty of easy understood signs and generally well-tempered drivers - driving was an absolute doddle! There’s ample parking wherever you go, even at the busy tourist hotspots, not to mention fuel is cheap, and traffic generally wasn’t too bad in our experience.
I don’t know why, I am watching this video, even though I live in Vancouver lol.
Well we're happy you're watching! Maybe one of our other videos could inspire you to travel? What about Iceland? - czcams.com/video/9q5egJTlIoE/video.html

megafoxdrone what was it like living in Vancouver
tarny11 I would say it feels like any other city, but I’ve live here for a long time. Vancouver is beautiful and it always rain.
megafoxdrone what is the weather like in September. I'm interested in visiting Vancouver . Any advice..
I can mostly agree with the video except "fuel is cheap" the city fuel price is literally the most expensive in North America.
Hey Kevin, thanks for watching! Perhaps we should have been clearer there, as for us in the UK the fuel prices over in North America seem very cheap compared to what we're used to paying over here. Even Vancouver seemed cheap for us, although we do concede that if you're coming from other parts of the continent it may seem more expensive.
I can totally understand! Most Canadians tell me Vancouver is very expensive, I think this is something relative, because to me, it is not "as expensive" as I am coming from a country with a higher cost of living!
$1.69 per litre isn’t cheap haha wonder what the price is in london
Owais Khan in sweden fuel is 2,31 cad dollars per litre and in the UK it is probably about the same. So when europeans go to norrh america we are glad to see fuel that is not taxed 80% of the price
Zelanie True but compared to our insurance pay and that 99% of homes in Vancouver are over 1 million dollars our cost of living plus gas is not cheap
Which Vancouver did he go to??
Fuel is cheap? No traffic problems? Damn, i bettter move to THAT Vancouver.
Considering fuel in the UK is at least $2.20 cad, gas in Vancity is cheap.
It’s in Canada British Columbia
OmerTheGreatOne haha yeah wth
Ya always expect travel to be full of congestion, traffic, and basically looking as if people don't "work" anymore.
British Columbia
I've been living in Vancouver for over 11 years and I can't state enough how little of this wonderful city is shown in this video. Even now, many times I feel like a tourist by discovering new places and things to do on a weekly basis. The guide is on point for the things described with one exception: there is no such thing as "very...very cold winters" in Vancouver unless you're visiting from Central Africa.
I lived in Vancouver and negibouring North Burnaby for 26 years and as I am well world traveled, I tell everyone I meet that Vancouver is one of the most beautiful city in my estimation in the world as it has everything ..Good weather, beautiful mountains, great transportation, fun things to do, beautiful parks, beaches, on and on...I must place to live and visit.
It's hard to argue with that, George. Any tips for anyone looking to visit? :)
I live in Vancouver and enjoyed this video. Just a comment about the weather. I'm not sure who your target audience is; but in terms of North American and more specifically Canadian weather, Vancouver has a mild climate. Summer is relatively short with an average temp of 18C with some days getting into the mid 20's. The winter average is 4C to 7C often with grey skies and mist or rain. There is lots of snow in the local mountains just a short drive from the city, but in downtown Vancouver we see snow only once or twice a year, and when it does snow it usually doesn't stick around for more than couple of days. I don't think that really qualifies our weather as long, hot summers and cold, snowy winters.
In my opinion, spring is the best time to visit Vancouver. There can be rainy periods, but everything is emerald green and the city is bursting with cherry blossoms and spring flowers. There are also few tourists, so it's very easy to get around and do things.
Hussaini Ashraf yes
So Vancouver is not as much as cold like other provinces right?
I think you've got the weather wrong.. We don't have extremely long, cold winters like other parts of Canada so you don't really need to expect much snow.. just a whole bunch of rain haha (hence why everyone calls it Raincouver) but we do get a ton of sun too!
True, if Brits are watching this it's called West Coast Marine, similar to England
shilo402 yeah short winters not much Snow
2017 Winter was horrible tho :'(
yes, 2017, last year! :'(
Exactly! Expect RAIN, RAIN, and more RAIN from October to May. Bring clothes to layer, a waterproof jacket, rain-proof shoes or boots, and an umbrella. Hiking in the fall is not usually the best season, as it is often quite rainy and muddy, but September is usually a sunny month. For the best weather, come in July ;-)
We do get some snow in the winters, but it doesn't hang around too long, and it could happen any time between December and February. People here are also very bad at driving in the snow, so avoid driving on snow days, if possible.
Vancouver doesn't have very cold winters. The temperature rarely drops into the negatives. The lowest it will get is about -3 to -5˚c on a really cold day in the absolute dead of winter. But it does rain A LOT so bring an umbrella.
Thanks for the feedback Zach! :)
Yeah I was about to write concerning that part : Cold winters? Try Montreal where I'm from hahaha We just got a whole month that was between -20 and -30...ugh haha Cool video by the way!
Zach Claxton well manitoba have too much cool 😨
Zach Claxton except for in the summer
To add onto that-
It rains ALL year in Vancouver. Maybe in Aug and September you'll see less rain
canada = beautiful
We couldn't agree more :D
True!
Don't eat Chinese food in that Chinese restaurant in Stanley park.
You'll find much better quality and cheaper in Richmond.
Who the fuck wants to go to Richmond?!!
@@mclarke75 People who'd want cheaper alternative.
Hope you don´t mean night market. 4.75 per entrance, huge line and prices not so low anyway.
Chinese Restaurant in Stanley Park? I haven't see one?
Richmond chinese food is way more authentic and tasty
PRO TIP: If you don't want to pay for Capilano, go to Lynn Canyon park. Its just like Capilano and you are more able to walk around the forest and you can go the water. To enter the park you must go across a smaller suspension bridge.
Also the Toonie and Loonie aren't nicknames, it's the official names.
Hey! Thanks so much for that advice :D
Any other pro tips? Also check out this if you love Vancouver - czcams.com/video/IXjxYkCjJWM/video.html
Was just going to say this! Lynn canyon is great for swimming and dipping for feet and seeing very pretty forest and water. I was and am still reluctant to pay for the capilano.
agree. Lynn is nice and free.
I love how no one mentions that the swimming is mountain run off and is ice cold almost year round LOL
I still think Capilano is more impressive than Lynn Canyon, although Lynn is nice, too. If going to Lynn Canyon, go early to avoid the crazy parking and crowds on sunny weekend days.
I have yet to see all those "well-tempered drivers" he mentioned 😂😂😂
It's easier to spot them after you've come to Toronto
Got called a "fucking cocksucker" and shown the shooting gun hand gesture by a driver 👉 the other day at a crosswalk which I had the right of way to. If the people here aren't pretentious, narcissistic assholes batting their eyes with their noses in the air, they're neurotic, overworked, underpaid basket cases itching for a confrontation. There are good people here but they're in the minority.
@@lionelhutz5137 couldn't agree more, wow, that's not even the worst story i've seen but yes, most are itching for a confrontation and watch how u behave in Surrey lol
Go to other places especially big cities in other countries and you'll probably see how the Vancouver drivers are very good in comparison
Lovely Vancouver l spent two weeks holydays there, amazing.
Yeah I live in Vancouver as well and you got it pretty spot on

I can't wait to be in Vancouver. Worth visiting.
I love Vancouver. Heading there this Sunday. Love from Seattle
Omg i love this! I have only been to Toronto and Montréal. Thanks for this video!
I really enjoyed watching this thank you so much. My daughter and partner have recently moved here from New Zealand and looking around with you made me feel a part of what they have been seeing.
Nice
Vancouver is great city....love this place...😍👌👌
Thank you sooo much for this! I'm coming to Vancouver in July with my toddler (from Australia). This video has made me more excited!!
I hope you enjoy your time here. I live in Tsawwassen. You can take any public transportation here. Its a beautiful trip here from the City and so many things to do that tourists don't know about. email me if you want some good ideas. rkb827@gmail.com
The only part I wouldn’t agree with is “fuel is cheap” lol
We will take that as a victory! haha. The fuel is just cheaper than for us at home in the UK!
Check out this from our time in Canada - czcams.com/video/IXjxYkCjJWM/video.html :)
2,31 cad for a litre in sweden. Laugh yourself lucky in Canada.
compared to Europe it is cheap but we also dont have nearly the public transportation and generally commute much further distances
What about bad drivers
What about traffic was not too bad?
It's nice to see people enjoying my city
What's not to love, we think Vancouver is great :D
I living in Vancouver over 5yrs now but still so proud of this Raincouver lol
I looked up Vancouver travel guides, pretty hyped about it and found this video. I don't really feel like going to Vancouver anymore.

Love your channel, glad I stumbled upon it! Keep uploading more!
Great video! Love the trash panda mention, they need some cred now and then.
Downtown Vancouver I would not recommend driving in though, parking is pretty bad and it’s not hard to get around on foot or by bicycle. We have a bike share called mobi that has pick up and drop off stations every 3 blocks or so, and it’s pretty cheap for short rides. Additionally there are tons of bike rental shops that can rent you a bike for a few hours, a day, or even a few days. I would definitely recommend that over driving, especially in the summer months.
Also we don’t have 4 seasons, we really only have 2. Warm and sunny-ish from May-September, and wet, grey and depressing from October-April with occasional excitement when the trees blow over and knock out power for a few days in November. Oh and if you’re lucky you’ll see 27 snowflakes fall and the entire city will grind to a halt, that’s always fun 🙃
Hey Joel! Thanks for the great advice there:D

This has to be the best Vancouver holiday review i've seen so far! I can relate with the host more since i reside in the UK. Will definitely give it a try this year.
Thanks so much! Glad you can relate to our take on Vancouver, it seems that our British point of view is a little different to those from North America :)

LOCAL THOUGHT: Very accurate and a great guide to follow when visiting Vancouver. Of course there is a lot more, but if you follow these tips you will not have gone wrong.
Thanks John! Any tips you have, feel free to tell us!

1. Definitely recommend getting a compass card over driving, the transit is really good for Canada, frequent but not always on time
2. For parks check out the UBC botanical Gardens and Nitobi Gardens (like a mini capilano/stanley park and sunyatsen garden)
3. Best brunch is Red Umbrella Cafe on Davie, but Granville Island public market is my favourite place in the entire world
4. Rent/lodging isn't cheap, don't stay downtown tbh, stay either on UBC campus or in a hostel, way more affordable
5. Weather - it's raining constantly from September to April, we don't really get snow, temperatures are really consistent and mild
Enjoy :)
WOW! Thank for all the great tips there :D

WAY more places than just Stanley park for outdoor fun, also it’s not very very cold here in winter. It rains mostly, today it was 8 outside.
thanks for the tips Candi!
I live in South France and My next trip is at Canada with my friends Thank bro 💕
Going next summer..can’t wait.
Awesome, we hope you have a wonderful time! What are you hoping to do while you're out there?
Such a lovely video! I’ll keep this one around for my trip to Vancouver in the next couple of months! Cheers!
You're welcome, Gino! We're glad you enjoyed watching it as much as we loved making it. 😁
I live in Nevada USA but I would love to move to Vancouver it feels like such a calm and beautiful city #GOALS
It really is a wonderful place, Brian. :) Have you visited before?
I have lived here for ages and I love the peaceful serenity it exudes.
I've been to most of the major cities in North America, and Vancouer is hands down the nicest city overall. Downside is it's very expensive.
Thanks for watching! It's rather epic. You may enjoy this too - czcams.com/video/IXjxYkCjJWM/video.html :D
h5y - it's by far my favorite city in North America. I only wish they could do more for the homeless.
Aaahahhhhh!!! Vancouver Canada wait for meeeeeee!!!!!
All of you locals are so lucky! I can't wait to travel here
We couldn't agree more, we've been recommending Vancouver to everyone! 😁 Do you have a trip planned?
Great video! I'm a city native that's also lived in LA, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, and Japan, however something always draws me back home. A couple things to mention: as I know the fuel prices around the world vary heavily, our are outrageous if you look at the history of our gas prices. If you think Sushi at Granville Island market is "the best [you've] had outside of Japan", you should to try to go Robson street and have your mind blown. Last one, Vancouver does not actually have "traditional" seasons, we are a tempered rain forrest so our summers are quite short and our winters are not very cold. Otherwise great video that showcases the most beautiful city in the world :) Thanks guys
Thanks for the feedback! it's great that it pulls you back it certainly left an impression on us too :D

For sure! Thank you :D Wonderful job at capturing the beautiful moments here as well, so thank you!!

I've lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years and in that whole north western section of PA. I love Pgh. How does Vancouver compare to the 'burgh?
I also live Toronto but next year I am going to Vancouver
Why ?
Thanks that was a great help and a lovely video...I'm going soon do excited!!
Thanks for your comment, we hope you have a great time! 😁
LOVE this video! What an awesome and endearing guide! x
We're glad you enjoyed it! Have you watched our other guides?
7:09, he's wrong there. Vancouver is warmer and cooler than other Canadian cities during winter and summer respectively. Expect mid to high 20 Celsius during summer (30 C+ and locals call it a heatwave), and around -3 C to 5 C during winter. For the winter, it is a "windy" cold, so you will feel it. We also rain a lot, so make sure you pack accordingly. Finally, bring money; Vancouver is not cheap.
Awesome😍

This is a great video and showcases Vancouver in a great light. I have used this many times to promote the city to visiting clients who are prospecting for new places to live.
We're glad to hear that Shawn! Thanks so much for your comment, it is a beautiful city 😀
Vancouver does not get "very cold winters" .... winters are rather mild.... Flowers grow in February..... Try that outdoors in the rest of Canada.
Relative to where he is from obviously
Not cold, just wet...
Dennis S well it’s all ways chill
Last winter, parts of England had much worse weather than the Vancouver area. Viva snowdrops.
Regina is not bad, we also have flowers in July!
Gas in Vancouver is very expensive. This guy is form Britain over the a gallon costs around 7 bucks.
ON
Le gasp!
Since I watch NCT Daily: Have Crush on Vancouver, I really love this city 😭❣️ I think Vancouver is peace full place ❣️
great guide thank you ❤i am planning to move there in the future 😊
This guy got the weather generalization wrong. If he's broadcasting for British audiences, then Vancouver climate is pretty much the same, temperature wise, as the British Isles. The only difference is Vancouver has a distinct wet and dry season unlike a more uniform rain pattern in the UK. That being said, it's even rainier in Vancouver in Winter and there is a typical drought like condition to the summer months. In contrast to this guy saying Vancouver has long hot summers, they are typically warm to rarely hot, with continuous sun and blue skies and very little rain. The season is long and stretches usually well into September.
He said winters are cold when in reality both day and night time temperature averages are above freezing. Vancouver has an identical marine winter climate that England has, produced by warm ocean currents. They expect at least some snow almost every year with very few years a century receiving none at all. Vancouver might only experience on average between 2 and 4 "winter" episodes a season which usually only amount to a small dusting or a few centimeters. Once a decade the city will usually get a serious dumping which causes major mayhem. There's only a 10% chance of a white Christmas in Vancouver, so never expect a typical Canadian winter wonderland for the holiday. The nice part is you can experience that with a short trip up to one of the various mountain ski resorts. The old saying goes you can golf in the morning, ski in the afternoon, and sail in the evening. Spring usually starts in February or March depending on the winter and is quite a prolonged season. Spring is usually cool to mild, but because the ground doesn't usually freeze ever too deep or at all, spring flowers can show months before the rest of the country.
Transportation. I’m traveling with my 9 year old and we plan on staying in the Richmond area and a small trip to Steveston. What’s the least expensive and safest way to tour. Thank you
Hi Lailani, it sounds like the bus might be a good bet if you're staying in Richmond and want to get to Steveston. There's some good info here - vancouver.ca/streets-transportation/visitors-guide-to-public-transit.aspx. Or of course you could hire a car with us and get around the city nice and easily :) - www.holidayextras.co.uk/car-hire.html
I highly recommend bicycling around Richmond (outside of the really dense/skytrain area) and Steveston
If you are staying in Richmond along Cambie or No. 3 Road, the 410 bus goes right into Steveston and comes every 10 minutes or so throughout the day. The fare is inexpensive at $2.75 and takes around 35 minutes. If you’re staying outside of that area, buses run less frequently, but can still get you there easily. Public transit is safe and widely used across the region, and Richmond is one of the safest areas in metro Vancouver.
Cycling is also a good way to get around Richmond as it is very flat and there is decent cycling infrastructure. Avoid riding No. 3 Road anywhere north of Granville avenue though, as the bike lanes are narrow and the road is very busy with lots of driveways and other hazards. In general, you can ride around Richmond easily while avoiding most busy streets.
Also I would recommend using Google Maps, Google Maps cycling directions are pretty accurate, and Translink (metro Vancouver’s transit company) is partnered with Google Maps so all you have to do is input your destination and select transit as the mode and google will tell you the rest of the way, even showing if the bus is delayed.
Definitely take the bus or a taxi. Drivers in Richmond are often not very aware of their surroundings, so I would not ride a bike, or drive if it was my first time in the city. Although, it depends on what kind of traffic you are used to driving in.
A lot of people think Vancouver/lower mainland drivers are extremely aggressive. If you are from a big city, you will be fine, if you are from a smaller town, you might find it stressful to drive here.
I recommend a Tour Guys walking tour if you visit the city. The guides are very knowledgeable and it's a great way to get to know the city!
Thanks for the advice! :D

driving? vancouver? a bloody test of patience. winters are not 'very cold' ..wet maybe.
"not to mention, gas is cheap"
LOL I wish
Hey Hezron! In comparison to us in the UK it is :D
i burst into laugh. I think only Montreal is slightly more expensive than Van in whole Canada.
He compared it with the price in UK. You think gas in Vancouver is expensive, just go to UK or Europe in general. 😊
Fantastic presentation of Vancouver.
Thank you so much 👍
Thanks for watching! Make sure to subscribe for more travel videos every single week!
Best time to come here is during May-June so the weather is hot but it’s also cool too. Also bring an umbrella if you’re going to visit Vancouver from October-April it rains all the time. It’s not that cold here either and it barely snows. Even if it does it’s only a little bit. It rains a lot more and it’s very grey and cloudy unless it’s May-Mid September. Downtown food is good but can be pricey so try places in Burnaby, New Westminster, and Richmond! Richmond has more of an Asian taste so you’ll expect a lot of Taiwanese, Japanese, and asian fusion places with cute asian cafe’s. Idk if it’s just that I’m used to it but the sushi is average here butttt if you’re from a place that doesn’t serve sushi often then dig out here cause there’s a vast amount of sushi places everywhere in Vancouver. One thing not to worry here is the lack of sushi lmao. If you’re an outdoorsy person then come here it’s great but if you’re more of a scenic city person looking for a great nightlife then Vancouver’s unfortunately quite boring in that sense. We do have great music festivals and decent clubs here like Celebrities so it’s not too bad. However fuel is kinda pricey these days so,,,not the greatest. Kitsilano beach is cleaner than English Bay beach but English Bay is right next to downtown compared to Kitsilano where u have to drive all the way there.
All in all, anyone who comes to Vancouver, I hope you enjoy your stay! It can be boring here as a local but as tourists I hope you can see that it’s a hidden gem from time to time.
WOWZAS! Thanks for all the advice Vic!
And thank you for watching :)

He comes from the UK and the price of gas in Vancover is cheaper than in the UK. In the UK gas costs like $2.30 Canadian dollars per litre.

I have company discount in my EU country of Czech Republic and drive for same prices as are now in Vancouver. So Vancouver price is European without tax :D
Lol @ Vancouver having 'very cold winters'. Great video despite that bizarre tidbit.
I love Vancouver, this one is among my top 5 cities I have ever been to. I hope to be able to go back once all this is over!
Don't we all :)
Best city in the world thanks for the video mates
Hi again Jaffar, thanks very much, we loved Vancouver too!
Alex Kreus You can't paint all Vancouverites with the same brush. Some people are unfriendly but many are not. We can all learn a thing or two about empathy and acceptance. People need to learn and give gratitude when due.
"Fuel is cheap" Haha, it's the most expensive in North America, but cheap in comparison to the UK yes. "Very cold winters"? We have the mildest climate in Canada and are warmer than 40% of the US in the winter....
You're right John, in comparison to the UK fuel is absolutely cheap, and for the most part winter's in Vancouver match winter's in the UK- we find them cold 😉
@@HolidayExtrasTravelGuides I've never been to the UK, but yeah, we get lots of rain like you guys, but thankfully our summers are dry and absolutely perfect.
I like your travel video, it's very interesting..AMAZING..
I'll would want to move to Canada Lol, It's such beauty!!
Vancouver has only two seasons: the summer and the rain lol
Better than Calgary. The smoke and the Snow 😂😂 thanks BC!
And weed is legal!!!!! Woooooo! *Packs bags*
Nice video! I also love Vancouver~🇨🇦My favorite is Stanley Park🐭
👌👌👌
Thank you for sharing this video absolutely beautiful place I hope I can visit someday Godbless
6:25 see the red building I been there
With all due respect, one would tip 10-15 percent for average service. 15-18 percent for good or amazing service. If the service you receive is good, which more often than not it will be, please respect that the cost of living in Vancouver is quite high. Servers make a very small wage hourly and rely heavily on tips.
Thanks for the feedback Sebastian! It's great advice :)
Sebastian Wasak I was about to say the same thing! 10-15 % is much too low especially when you tip out on your sales
Yes, for reasons not made clear, the restaurant industry has contrived to hoodwink the consumer into subsidizing the wages of servers by direct "voluntary" payment. I may tip but not if the server is just "phoning it in". Servers are not forced to do that work. They are not victims of selfish customers.
Some restaurants in Vancouver pay wait staff a living wage and forbid tipping.
I love Vancouver so much I said I love Vancouver
I was thinking of moving there but rethinking it now. All the comments about the rain has me depressed. Sounds very depressing. And I also heard that there is not a lot of live music. Guess I'll just have to stay in San Francisco and dodge all the feces. NOT! Can't wait to get the fuck out.
Vancouver International airport was also voted the best Airport in North America, Vancouver and Victoria are Gorgeous Cities! Proud to be Canadian... Also Vancouver doesn't get that cold at all in Winter, very mild I would say...
Just so Beautiful!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Said! You may enjoy this too - czcams.com/video/IXjxYkCjJWM/video.html :D

i don't even wanna know how much gas costs where you're from lol.... xD
i already think vancouver's gas is too high.
It's interesting that this is the overwhelming feedback!
Yep, UK prices are hefty for Gas! :D

currently an average price is $2.10 per litre in the UK
Wow. Yeah, it is around $1.50 here right now, and people are complaining.
