You only have a partial understanding of Fluorescence. Not all fluorescence is bad. Not all fluorescence is Milky. In d,e,f medium to strong fluorescence CAN make a stone milky or oily. It does not always. The milky would be visible without the up light next to a similar stone of the same color without it. In some cases fluorescence increases the price of a stone and in others it can decrease it. One factor that determines this is what color of fluorescence. If you have an I color diamond with enough blue fluorescence, the stone appears more white than without it. If you have a I color with yellow fluorescence, it become more yellow and therefore the stone would be worth less. However there are also more rare colors which do not change the appearance of the stone at all. I have a diamond with a magenta fluorescence. The famous Hope Diamond in the Smithsonian has a strong red fluorescence. The rarity adds to the value of the stone. Keep digging and learning and experimenting. There’s at lot more too it.

Example - Van Cleef claims to sell only D-E-F colored stones in their diamond jewelry, and as you correctly pointed out those stones CAN look milky with strong fluorescence. This does affect the overall aesthetic of the jewelry piece and is also not disclosed. I have personally seen that their diamonds in their pieces do have fluorescence which is disappointing. At this price point they shouldn’t be including stones with a strong fluorescence in my opinion. Most luxury brands claim to use D-G color diamonds so a strong fluorescence can make these stones look milky, which is something I wanted to point out to other luxury jewelry enthusiasts. That is fascinating to know of the Hope Diamond, thank you for sharing that ❤️
@@CalDesiGal When you buy jewellery pieces with gemstones or diamonds, I think it's just common sense to bring your own equipment to check on the spot. I don't think any of these brands say on their websites they use diamonds without fluorescence only. So they are not lying. Nothing wrong with that. Bear in mind all these big brands are doing businesses, not running charities! And you as a consumer has the obligation to protect yourself and your money, and that you are mostly paying for their brand names.
