Today is July 1st, 2024 and the new national registry (NREMT) written exam is now live for advanced emts and paramedic candidates. In this concise video, I summarize all the updates from NREMT and what you need to know to prepare and pass the NREMT exam for ALS providers.
The NREMT exam is the exam all levels of EMS certification take after they complete and pass an approved educational program. Once the student passes NREMT, they then apply for their state license to practice and start applying for jobs as an EMT/Paramedic provider.
The national registry has four levels of examination, EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, the new changes in this video are only for the AEMT and Paramedic level exams.
Be great,
Evan, The Paramedic Coach

I took the new paramedic exam today and I passed! Thank you Evan. It’s been a long journey
Congrats!
What exactly did you use?
How is the new test?
How is the new test?
@@kellymiller3074 I took the Advanced Emt test and I had questions with 3 right answers and drag and drop questions I can’t wait to see the pass rate after a 1yr on this new test
Hey Evan! Took my NREMT last week and I passed! Thank you for these videos and good luck to all the testers. I struggled with signs and symptoms for disease’s and conditions, and that was a big part of the test.
I'm taking the new medic exam tomorrow morning. Incredibly nervous. Thanks for the info! Fingers crossed!
I passed! The new exam is definitely a challenge but it is doable.
How is the new test?
This is awesome news, thanks Evan for making sure we are well prepared and well informed Your the best man!
This is what I do brother!
Thank you, Evan. I have 2 months left in my medic program, so it's grind time!! 💪🏽
Let's do this!
I was waiting for this one to drop.
Thanks for all the info and keep up the great work. 👍
Here to help!
Appreciate it. This is good to know before the test starts.
This is what I do man!
Evan thanks for the prep, being old timer having to take to become an Instructor. Took it this past Saturday and passed. I am horrible taking test you made it easier. Thank you
If you took your test and passed before July 1st but did not take the psychomotor or failed the psychomotor. You still are certified at the state level
One heads up for those taking those practice NREMT exams with the new questions - you won’t receive a grade at the end. Not a huge deal, I wanted to see how the questions would look. But I also wanted to see what I got right. You will not be given an opportunity to see this, it’s exactly like the exam. The screen cuts white and you’re done.
So, if you do want to grade yourself - make sure to take images/recording of the questions, so you can grade yourself afterwards. If you care, at least.
I’m very happy about these changes, I’ve seen and heard of too many medics being forced to take psychomotor multiple times due to pedantic, power tripping, egomaniac proctors.
Agreed!
Wow can’t believe it’s gone I was the last medic class in my school to take PSE, officially can say now “Back in the days when I had to take PSE it was so much different” haha
There are pros and cons to this. My point of view was that the psychomotor exam was a good thing but yeah I felt like it was even a bit subjective when I was in Paramedic school back in the day. Still though there is a benefit to having to actually demonstrate the skills.
However, which other healthcare professionals have a similar skill exam? Maybe some do but most do not (other than clinical time) so it is probably more in line with other healthcare providers.
i have a my psychomotor examinations tomorrow for EMT. i wish it was actually gone
I’m taking the national registry for the advance EMT on Wednesday in the Bahamas🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿
Let's go!
How did you do ?
@@braxtonrichardson1938 hay I did not pass but I will be. Taking in 3 weeks
Took it Friday and passed in 90 questions
Congrats!
from the NREMT website"Candidates will be required to answer a minimum of 110
items."
@@user-yx6kr4nw4f I read that and that was starting for the national starting yesterday
@@user-yx6kr4nw4fi got cut off at 73 questions for EMT-B. I failed with a score of 830 my first attempt after a month and a half out of EMT school.. they're not giving feedback on my weak areas which sucks for me. Not sure what to study now for next time..
lol!
I'll be testing tomorrow for my medic🤞
Let's do this!
Do you think you could please add clinical judgment-specific practice questions to your program? I have purchased the lifetime access
Hey Brandy, we just did! You will find the clinical judgement questions under AEMT and Paramedic under NREMT practice questions. Enjoy them!
@@TheParamedicCoach thank you 😊
Thank u for sharing..
My pleasure this is what I do!
Indiana is the only state that is still requiring you to take the psychomotor exam. 2 interviews and a hands on assessment supposedly
Has there been any talks of getting rid of the psychomotor for basic EMT as well?
That I believe has been removed. He mentioned at the start that it is at “all levels”.
Yes, there are no more psychomotor exams for EMT at the NREMT level, you still may be tested in class though.
@@TheParamedicCoach Roger that 👍 I guess we'll be the final wave of students taking our psychomotor August 3rd.
Here we go!
I HAVE MINE ON THE FIFTH !!!
Let's go!
@@TheParamedicCoach your program helped so much! my partner introduced me to your content! Greetings from TX!
im currently in Medic class, I will be taken this exam October of this year
Let's go, great work! You have several months to study before your exam you should be miles ahead by the time your exam comes around.
Thanks for the update I’m taking
Best of luck!
just graduated class in May and registry in early June. It states in the book we are not diagnosing patients yet it sounds like that's what clinical judgement is. Also, What is all this extra learning we have to do for recert? Should I start immediately on recert training or how does it work. maybe a video on that?
Congrats on passing your class and registry! Clinical judgement you should think of it as similar to a field impression. As paramedics we have to conclude what we believe is the next best step in management based on their history, signs and symptoms, events leading up etc, that is how we take action and make decisions with our patients, that is what they are testing you on just like you do in the field.
As far as recertification of your national registry, I would first ask your employer if they assist or provide you with recert training. If they don't and it is on you, about 6 months to 1 year before your certification is going to expire you can join a online full recertification program to get all your credit hours in one place.
@@TheParamedicCoach now that makes sense. Wish the book put it that way.
Ok good to know about re-certification. I'll ask my boss, thank you sir!
New AEMT test was definitely weird but passed yesterday
2:42 is that all you need to learn to be a paramedic in the US? Just learn those subject areas? That seems easy compared to everywhere else
I asked the question too. Surely there's more to it than that. I'm not even sure if the psychomotor tests are like our scenarios, where you just walk in the room after being told "you're dispatched to an 8-year-old who had some peanuts and might be having a reaction" type of question and there are 2-3 assessors and a mannequin. I'm sure American student paramedics have to endure all the assignments, lectures and workshops we endured.
Can somebody explain to an Australian paramedic what's involved in the training for my American colleagues? Are there standard learning modules to prepare you for these exams? It all seems so different to the training pathway here. The most common way to get your bum on an ambulance seat here is to graduate with a Bachelor of Paramedicine from University. So, as you can imagine, they're full of lectures, pracs, OSCEs etc, plus your assessments by your clinical mentor as you do your internship.
Hi sir i have plan to write paramedic exam doh (department of health abudhabi) its united Arab Emirates ara kindly help me how to passed written exam
Question for the medics that took the new exam as a recertification not original. Did you find any more difficult? Easier? Better? Worse?
I’ll be taking it soon as a non NREMT medic. So technically original but already a certified medic in a non national reg state. Pointers?
I would study just like any other NREMT candidate, this is my prep program here: www.prepareforems.com
What you very much coach ❤️
Those example questions look way harder than the old test. As someone who’s taken the old style 5 times and has studied hours and hours and spent 100s of $ on test sites. I think this new exam looks too difficult. Don’t think I will ever pass
Do you have a video that addresses the MARCH assessment method?
has anyone taken this test as of now?
Yes. It wasn’t terrible
I took the NREMT yesterday for EMT and got a score of 830. My first attempt after a month and a half out of emt school.. they're not giving feedback anymore on which areas i didnt do so good in .. im kind of stuck now on what material i should study for next time.
I don't see the Link to get to possible questions for aemt
This is webpage from NREMT, you will see a link that says click here for AEMT items: nremt.org/Document/Get-Ready-For-The-New-Examinations#ImportantTimelinesAndInformation
@@TheParamedicCoach ok thank You very much brother
I took the old nremt-p written to get my state license years ago and it took me two attempts to pass. Anyone know if that that failed attempt counts toward the new national?
So is the EMT-B same to go then?
EMT remains unchanged, yes.
Anything for just regular EMT?
Yes, the video vault program covers every level of certification: www.prepareforems.com they each have their own videos/questions/worksheets and study plans.
@@TheParamedicCoach I meant any changes to the regular EMT exam?
I took mine first attempt and failed with a score of 830 . I guess they're not giving us feedback anymore on our weak or failed areas .. I'm sort of stuck now.. not sure what to study or what areas i failed..
What's the link?

In your opinion is it difficult for an older ex-military member to get into paramedic field? 35+ in shape
Definitely not impossible but it's difficult as a youngin that's for sure. If that's your dream do it!
Is there a app you recommend to prepare me for the NREMT?
Pocket prep and EMTPREP are good. U have to pay but they're good
First
Awesome!
