  • Where should you place your foot straps? Robert Stehik, Eli Maioho, and Derek Hamasaki show their footstrap setups and why it works. It's really a personal choice and Derek's setup is quite different from Robert's and Eli's foot placements. Please keep watching and also listen to the additional voiceover comments during the extended portion for more details on the session and wing foiling in the surf. The wing foil action segment is from a video already posted on CZcams two weeks ago, with added voiceover.

    Hi
    I watch all your videos and find them very interesting. I have watched the latest ones but my question relates to this video and it’s about switching feet. You and your mates none of you switch feet! Yet you are very competitive in course racing and are always up front .. unless you tear your wing 😉 of course. Can you point as high on your toe side as you can heel side? I can’t! So I’m learning to switch, it’s tricky but I’m getting there. I know Allan Cadiz switches and he’s super fast! You always seem to be up there in the lead as well .. I was just wondering how you do it, that all. Cheers

      Sorry about the delayed response. I have figured out how to go upwind at a steep angle without switching but that said, if you can learn to switch feet from the start, it's definitely a good skill to have for racing and more comfortable on long upwind legs, no doubt.

    Thanks for the video, man! I am beginner but from what I am used to from snowboarding it feels weird having my front foot off from the center of the board. Is there a reason why no one has one single straight middle front strap, to be able switching front feet?

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  Před rokem +1

      Some people use a straight front strap but I don’t like it. If you foil without straps the stance is naturally a bit offset and shoulders squared off

    Do you ever switch your feet? We switch regularly on our lake to get back upwind easier.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  Před 2 lety +2

      No, the three of us keep the same stance both tacks but yes, it’s a bit awkward going upwind twisted like a pretzel 🥨

    Have you guys ever tried going strapless?...Great video though!

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  Před 2 lety

      Yes, I think we all started out strapless. I find straps allow you to carve harder with more confidence and they are essential for jumping. I still enjoy winging strapless though.
