    I have one, I returned mine 3 times in the first year of ownership under warranty, and it is at the low end of the thermal scopes.
    The BAD: I can see things at 400 yards, but they need to be within 200 for me to identify them, maybe even 150 yards. They do not like humidity AT ALL. Images are blurry above 4x zoom. Don't waste your money on a 6x or 8x zoom.
    The GOOD: It is easy to zero. It is light weight, it has a simple menu and buttons on top because it doesn't have many options, it has a long lasting battery, it turns on and boots up fast.
    Would I buy it again, NO. I wasted a lot of time shipping back and fourth. First 2 couldn't be repaired, they were replaced.
    There are too many thermals out there with way better reliability, with longer warranty.

    I like it but it needs 2 things.
    1) If no bullet calculations or laser rangefinder, then it needs a new switchable crosshair like the Primary Arms ACSS reticle set for 5.56/308 for built in range estimation on man targets.
    2) Battery pack expansion

    I talked to an ATN rep and he said the LT does come with the smart Mil-Dot reticle. So with a handheld range finder and the mil-dot reticle you don't really need to Thor 4's advanced features if your shooting under 200 yds. Just do holdovers with the reticle. The smart Mil-dot does work like FFP reticle.

    Here again, you have the ATN base/rings mounted backwards for a AR platform. Might work on another type rifle, with a further forward mounting rail. Eye relief is the determining factor. But your backwards for an AR. The offset mount again should be attached to the muzzle end of the scope. That's why it's made like that. Nice video, though....

    I have shot 200 rounds in an AR 15 300 Blackout using this exact scope and I still can't hit a feed sack at 50 yards. Every time I turn it on it shoots way low. Then I work the zero up and make it hit center. Then I click for it to save my zero and it just says calibrating FOR EVER. Never will calibrate I guess and its been that way since I took it out of the box. I can iron sight in the dark better than this thing. I am sure I am not doing something right but it seems like it just won't save the zero after you turn it off

    • @4MRRanch
      @4MRRanch  Před rokem

      Personally, I would try and update to the latest firmware to see if you have a potential bug in the stock software that has since been patched. If that doesn’t work I’d then try and reach out to ATN, something’s definitely off.

    I did have one important question I know you said you haven’t had any reliability issues but I’ve read a lot of other reviews on the ATN lite models talking about the scope/image freezing up and having to turn it off and back on after every single shot. In terms of monocular I’m assuming you mean a night vision or thermal device. If so, I’m not sure that will work out for you unless it has a reticle you can zero. This is also assuming you can mount it. You might be able to rig it as a diy clip on nightvision/thermal device to sit in front of your daytime scope, but since that’s not its indented use it may not work as well as a dedicated clip on would have.

    • @4MRRanch
      @4MRRanch  Před 8 měsíci +2

      It really depends on how well you can differentiate animal movement. At distance, a deer with its head down eating can visually be mistaken for a hog, but they move very slow and leisurely when grazing whereas hogs move more erratically. You’ll see glowing at 2,000 yards plus with this, but that doesn’t mean you’ll know what it is until you get closer. But this is tru for even the 640 resolution scopes I’ve used.

    when would you go for the tico

    • @4MRRanch
      @4MRRanch  Před 3 lety

      Although I have not gotten to use the TICO yet, clip on thermal has its perks. You can use your daytime scope and quickly convert it to thermal. Clip on thermal actually works pretty well.

    I have the same scope. When my scope catches the horizon it turns my entire sight picture the color of the air temperature. How can I fix this? Tried contacting ATN but no response.

    • @4MRRanch
      @4MRRanch  Před 3 lety +1

      I would first make sure firmware is updated to the most current version, in case it’s an issue they have made a patch for. I would then try different thermal sensitivity settings if that doesn’t work.

      Depends on the specific model, that’s why I refer people to the link in the description of the video. But the two competed here usually fluctuate around $3k (4.5-18x ThOR 4) and $1800 (320 sensor 3-6x ThOR LT)

    Do these scopes work with a fixed front sight? I have an X-Sight mounted on an AR-15 and it works well but I am new to the thermal world.
    Also, in terms of graininess at max zoom, is the 320 LT better in the 3x6 or the 4x8 configuration?

    • @4MRRanch
      @4MRRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      I have not tested this personally as I don’t have any fixed front sight rifles. It may have more impact than with the X sight depending on the temp of the front sight.
      The stronger the base magnification, the better your resolution will be at higher powers, so the 4x8 will do better than the 3x6
