- Now, this was a great day! We met Chris to see what his Supercharged Astra Van was all about. Check his instagram out at / charged_opc_van
'This van is a 1999 S reg which is pretty much the first batch of mk4 vans to be built. I love the noise of the supercharger, its loud and always the first thing people comment on.
I also love the overall set up, its not perfect yet but close.
Its not a high powered build. I grew up with by dad always telling me that power isn’t
everything, a well set up car is far more menacing than being able to go fast in a straight line
and I think my van proves that.
I also love that I still haven’t seen or heard of another supercharged astra van so I’m led to
believe it’s the only one to exist'.

Engine modifications (BHP) -
Z22SE Vauxhall 2.2 engine
Chevrolet Cobalt SS water cooled inlet manifold with a Courtney sport thermal gasket
sandwiched between 2 z20net (Vauxhall 2.0 turbo) inlet gaskets
2.2 block drilled to relocate the factory pcv crank pressure valve to match the cobalt manifold
Original pcv valve blocked
Eaton M62 Supercharger with a 3in pulley
Custom secondary water cooled system using a focus rs external water pump, custom
silicone pipe work, second GM coolant bottle,
Alloy charge cooler
Direnza alloy rad with custom mounts to bring rad forward with 2x Spal fans front mounted
and wired to the factory coolant module.
Air con delete
Pipercross air filter
Custom 2.5in downpipe with a 200cell sports cat
Miltek 2.5in cat back system from a turbo coupe made to fit a van
Astra vxr injectors and the factory loom adapted to suit the ev1 plugs
Ecu relocated
Battery relocated to boot
F23 short ratio gearbox
TTV lightened flywheel
Mapped by Courtney sport to 271hp and 258lb ft

Spax shocks and & springs
Polybushed sub frame bushes
Polybushed engine mounts
Whiteline lower arms
Whiteline rear anti roll bar
215/45/17
Bola b1r alloys the r version are forged monoblock wheels
Pirelli p7 tyres
Front brakes are Brembo 4 pot calipers with 321mm discs
Rears are brand new astra gsi calipers with Brembo pads and discs
Braided flexis all round and new brakelines
Exterior Modifications -
Opc front bumper, foglight delete and Sprogley motorsport cold air feeds
Number plate relocated and cold air feeds in the number plate recess
Seat cupra r lower splitter and very rare slated bumper grills only ever suppled in Germany
Irmscher bonnet extension
Opel dtm front bonnet grill painted satin black with grey honeycombe
Sharkeye headlights
Smoked side repeaters
Opc rear smoked lights not the ebay versions
Heko wind deflectors
Astra gsi side skirts adapted to fit van
Astra gsi arch spats
Opc rear bumper
Opc rear boot spoiler
Rear wiper delete
Interior Modifications -
Gsi front seats
Dashboard flocked black with grey inserts
Lower console flocked black
Grey flocked grab handles
32 pin top display from a gsi with working fluid level sensors and light and brake warning
sensors
Leather gear and handbrake gaiter
Full estate headlining dyed black
Opc gear knob
2004 2.2 dashloom and interior loom with unwanted wires removed
Rear end currently stripped for some restoration to the body and new custom interior and
possibly a roll cage.

Helped my mate build that van back in 2002/3. Southampton exhaust suppliers ex delivery van. 1.7td with almost 200k on. Salvaged Astra bertone cab donated almost everything for the running gear and interior back then. Even Had a beacon on the roof and was a real sleeper. He sold it to a lad who just ruined it. Probably the guy who scammed the current owner. Great to see it’s still going. Used to upset a lot of people at the traffic light drags around West Yorkshire 😂
I think I may of been the person that bought it off your mate. I bought it from Yorkshire as a 2.2 and was a beautiful van, it had an OPC rear bumper and lights then, unfortunately I didn't have it too long though as I had to buy a car. The bloke I sold it too stripped the back bumper off and lights for standard ones and didn't look after it, last time I seen it it was looking sorry for itself. Come on a fair way now and is stunning. Also used to have gsi rear seats fitted and carpeted out In the back.

Very nice van that, and with that 2.2 supercharged engine is very impressive.. I know a few guys who have the 2.2 supercharge conversion one has the hatch, and the other has a convertible..
Love the van. Looks sick. Should have had a more serious drive though. I wanted to hear the limiter bashing and popping an banging.

What a sweet motor! I used to have a GTE 16v in my boy racer days through the 90s and it was a very similar colour. I would love to have a GTE with a blower as this looks mental!

Chris i have also been a Opel fan all my life, i have the 1.8 16v Opel Astra classic g estate, when I seen your van I am very impressed, here in South Africa, we do not get any of the nice Opel models like yours, keep up with the good work 👍

The bonnet extention isn't sold new anymore so to find one it's a case of searching the fb groups and ebay.
You can get a replica one on ebay but I've never seen one that fits correctly, the gap between the bonnet and the extention isn't level so doesn't look great without alot of work
Where did u get that cold air intake
As in the air filter? That came from the demon tweeks website and the pipework was from samco hoses. 👍🏻
I have an 03 plate van just the 1.7 dti as my daily, and a 25 year old Calibra

@@VannedUK No, its the 16v eco.. Iv got a vid, not the best quality but you'll get the idea.. Both motors are in very good shape for their age
Is there a kit for a Mk5 Astra h 1.8 petrol. I would really like to push it a bit from 115 hp
Is there anything I can do to my mk4 1.7 cdti stock engine to get it to rip some what ? Or is it a engine swap job

@@VannedUK I thought so. I recognised winscar res car park and I live just down from Holme moss. Can see my house from it. I test my car on all the roads you were using absolutely lovely roads in summer time.
