    Just so i have this right
    Level and dry fit as often as possible.
    1. Start at the corner and measure to the height of one corner panel.
    2. Create a level chalk line at that level on both the right and left side (you only show left)
    3. I am installing outside so put glue on the back of the corner and screw in place (using the chalk line as the top of it).
    4. Caulk the edge of the corner panel, put glue on the back of the left side panel. Slide in place, ensure its level and screw in place.
    5. Repeat until done with this side. I will make sure to "tuck" the far end of the panel into the edge molding that is already there.
    6. The right side is basically the same for me, although its only 13" from edge to the door, so i am cutting a number of panels down.
    7. Install corner ledger, glue and seal excessively..
    8. Since i am dry fitting, that last piece will be cut down to fit. But glue and seal the rest.
    9. Look for loose bits, screw in as necessary.
    10. Fill and paint holes..
    11. Have a beer and enjoy..

    Just out of curiosity wouldn’t it make more sense where the panel ended and you had to paint it to have used a trim piece that you sell ? It would have looked better and it could have showcased your trim pieces.

    Could you make a video about how to install around interior doors? Going to put on one wall in my bath and the door is on this wall. Doesn’t seem like these panels would look right around a door considering the thickness of the panels compared to the thickness of the door trim. The panel would be well past the door trim. Is that normal?

    Can you explain the level guideline? Do you make sure the top line is level and cut necessary gap pieces at bottom line?

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem +1

      The guideline is created with a chalk line. The guideline is level with the wall not the ground. If you level your install against the ground, the stone. will gradually become not level as you head up the wall. The gap at the bottom should be small enough to fill in with caulking, if not, you can cut small pieces of stone to insert into the gap.

      Hi Ronald, Mitten BP stocks our product in Canada, you can arrange pickup through any retailer that works with Mitten. Cold weather is no problem, in fact, the panels will increase the R-Value of the wall by 3.41 per inch.

    DO I need to remove my vinyl siding and install a moisture barrier?

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem +1

      As long as the surface is flat, you can install over it. When installed correctly, caulking between all connections, adhesive on the back of each piece and fasteners every 8 inches or so, GenStone is completely waterproof, but some customers do opt to install paper wrap, it's up to you.

    • @garyrumbaugh2917
      @garyrumbaugh2917 Před rokem +1

      @@GenStoneVideo I would strongly suggest you remove your vinyl siding as there will be very little surface area for the stone to adhere to.

    those skinny filler pieces look terrible, that's why you measure everything out to avoid that happening. rather than starting with full pieces on the other end, should've started with pieces that were just over half of a panel then you would've ended with pieces down at this end that are just over half a panel, instead of obvious scab pieces.... Those little pieces ruin the real Stone appearance and make it obvious that they are fake panels

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem +1

      Yes, any structural flat surface will do. The install is the same, adhesive on the back of each piece and fasten with screws, but in your case, you would use tapcon screws rather than deck screws.

  • @olinmartinsen5867
    @olinmartinsen5867 Před rokem +4

    I can see issues if used in a wet climate with this install. Your really relying on your house wrap

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem +1

      The house wrap doesn't really matter, we included it because many customers already have it on their home. GenStone is 100% waterproof if installed with fasteners, adhesive on the back and our caulking between the connections. Our customers even use it for backyard waterfalls, but in that case we would recommend a water based concrete sealer every so often to protect the paint. GenStone can even be installed below grade!

    Is there a video on how to go around windows?

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem

      We didn't make a video specifically about that topic, but you have a couple of options. You can cut the panel at the window and paint the exposed edge with our paint kit or use our trim to trim out the window and terminate the panels into the trim. Feel free to give us a call, we'll connect you with a Project Coordinator who can walk you through your particular project.

    • @GenStoneVideo

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem

      We advise inserting a face screw hidden in the shadows of the rocks where you feel flex, but there shouldn't be much since there is construction adhesive on the back of each piece.

    Can this be installed over flagstone?

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem +1

      GenStone can be installed over any flat structural surface as long as the adhesive can fully contact the substrate and the correct screws are used. In your case, you may want to use tapcon screws to penetrate the flagstone. It may help to have a picture of what you're looking at, you can give us a call and one of our Project Coordinators will help you out.

    So you're adhering to the tyvec, what good is that?

    • @GenStoneVideo
      @GenStoneVideo  Před rokem

      The house wrap is optional, we show it because many property owners opt to use it. The adhesive will help guard against expansion and contraction that can happen during extreme weather swings. The fasteners are the most important part of the install.

    Apparently the caulk is not important, as you don't bother taking it to the edge. It doesn't even matter if the caulk falls off. The caulk is only there so you can claim you did it, but has no other purpose.
