It's funny how Terry is actually a main character with a father arc done right. He isn't an absentee dad at all. He adopts Rock from the abusive Geese and truly loves, cares for him and trains him. He also trusts him wholeheartedly which is why Rock loves him back so immensely.
Terry also teaches him his best moves but Terry himself like Goku and Ryu, is constantly upgrading and evolving himself. The man literally combined the Hakkyokuseiken Seppu Ken with the Power Geyser for an OP technique. Man just keeps upgrading his game.
