The Florida Mayhem: How NOT to Rebuild (SiR)

- In a prior episode, we covered how the Shanghai Dragons learned from a lot of their season one mistakes and were able to rebuild a team that found a decent amount of success in season 2. Today, we’re gonna flip the coin, and talk about what not to do. Let's talk about what the Florida Mayhem did to try and find redemption and why they failed miserably to do just that.

Not including Xepher's bastion clip is a big mistake It was the reason he was picked up at the beggining, we all know that deep down
I've been trying to find the video clip of me and the other Mayhem fans in the gameday discord chat losing our shit as it happened.
It takes a special kind of talent to take everything that you did in S1, blow it all up and rebuild from the ground up for S2, and somehow do WORSE than in S1. I know that there were only 28 matches for each team in S2, but FLM not only got fewer match wins in S2 than S1, but they even finished in a worse overall position too; 11/12 in S1, and 20/20 in S2. That takes a special kind of talent.
I just wanna point out that 6 wins out of 28 is a better win rate than 7 wins out of 40. But about everything else, I agree completely. Glad to see them looking genuinely better this year
@@Carzy4232 Right, that's why I pointed out that there were only 28 matches for S2. To give a perspective on this, despite going 0-40 in Season 1, SHD were able to match the amount of regular season wins that FLM were able to get in both of the first 2 seasons combined in just Season 2. The fact that FLM could only match the SHDs' current amount of regular season match wins after Season 2, despite having a 1 season and 7 match wins head start over them, is honestly a frightening thought. And let's not forget the fact that the Mayhem failed to qualify for even 1 stage playoff in the first 2 seasons. The Dragons on the other hand qualified for 2 stage playoffs and even won 1 of them.
I'm a Mayhem fan, yeah I apparently like being tortured, and I lost track at the amount of times I screamed something along the lines of "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BENCH SWON, I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE TO PUT SAYAPLAYER AT MAIN TANK GET SWON OUT OF THERE" in the Mayhem gameday discord.
And you wanna know the real kicker for Mayhem in their first 2 seasons? You said they failed to qualify for a single stage playoff, however they would've qualified for the Stage 4 playoff last season as the 6th seed... except they didn't have a stage 4 playoff in season 2.
@@RApollos107 I will give you that. I will admit from this video though, I'm actually surprised that Dividing didn't mention the thing that the Mayhem were actually remembered for in Stage 2 (not referring to the infamous Xepher C9 either). It was in their match against the Gladiators. You see the entire Blizzard Arena covered in purple, and then 1 lone Mayhem fan...
8:47 I just wanted to say that it wasn’t xepher’s fault. He was so busy leading and carrying the team he forgot about the objective
He couldn't have waited an extra month. We would have witnessed glory

Good call
You got it!
As a day 1 mayhem fan I appreciate the brutal honesty that’s needed for teams to improve on their mistakes
You know a team is really bad if they have a fail montage when stage 1 valiant, outlaws, houston, and justice don't have one.
Tj Hunter outlaws and Houston 💀💀💀💀
There was a short clip of Rawkus doing stupid peaks in the outlaws SIR
FINALLY THE SPARK!
That Xepher montage song was way too hilarious lmao
Someone should play it on the recorder next time
Beatbox is Boombox's failure little brother
Let's be honest, the Mayhem only held onto Tviq to drive the bus 🤣👌🏻
Thx for lighting up my day as usual.
2020 mayhem and shanghai
BOY WERE THEY WRONG
A) They were a non-GOATs set up trying to play GOATS while some of them were forced to play characters they weren't good at, but had to play them anyways because of GOATS.
B) Swon was the worst tank in the league.
C) The GOATS meta completely shut down Saya and the only way he could play was to go into Brig jail.
D) Swon was the worst tank in the league.
E) They tried to make it work, but it just did not work.
F) Swon was the worst tank in the league.
G) Role Lock was probably the biggest acquisition Mayhem got in S2. Even in the matches they lost in Stage 4 they were a million times more competitive than they were in the first 3 stages.
H) Did I mention that Swon was the WORST TANK IN THE ENTIRE OVERWATCH LEAGUE!?
Mayhem finished 6-22 not 6-20. Not a big deal but something I noticed while watching 16:20
Oh how time flies. look now. Slime, OGE, Checkmate, and Runaway superstars.
yep
Good thing mayhem lookin a lot better this season already
A LOT BETTER hahahaha
New series idea :Today on BOSTON.
10:42 called it
watching this back in 2021 and then hearing shout out to anthony this guy is amazing, was strange to say the least haha
Actual title:Roasting Xepher anyway possible
they also signed yaki and they're quite good
Here's something that I've been thinking about with the graphic displaying the Stage that is being reviewed. Depending on how the performance, the lights could either cut out, to display a complete collapse such as with the Dallas Fuel in Stage Three and Four, or having the lights being brighter to display a great performance in a particular Stage, such as with the Atlanta Reign during Stage Four. Would something like that be possible?
Either way, nice work here.
Hey, I am the thumbnail guys and subsequently the guy who did the little motion graphic for the glowing lights, I love the idea but the way we decided was to make just the same template if you will... and then change the text for each different heading. We also decided on having all the teams that share a similar color, I.E Red: (Reign, Defiant, Paris, Dragons and Justice) they would all have the same hue of red for their intro, this would make it easier for sake of time spent on creating the graphic for each team and then the rendering time for each graphic. We also made the decision on the Preseason, S1-4 , Play Offs and Final Thoughts, to keep them all white for every video for 1) ease of reading and 2) ease of editing, in the fact that if we had all of those 6 different transitions in the 9ish colors that all the teams can be split into it would be so much more hassle for seemingly no difference. And finally the animations themselves were created and rendered well in advance, I'm talking like a couple of weeks to a month before the 1st 2019 SiR. Thank you for your suggestion and I hope that this little paragraph has helped put some spotlight on the process of making a series like this. P.s if you would like to ask me any further questions or would just like to, follow my twitter @_itsOzzY
@@OzzYau Thanks for the explanation.
I think this year is the first sucessful year for Mayhem but I don't see them much further than play-ins. Assuming we ever see the other teams
So by the opening lines already I can tell you watch UrinatingTree.
14:18 xepher btw
Some fun trivia about pro Overwatch if anyone is watching this now: way before OWL started there was a story that a player named Friez3 that accused Geguri of cheating and said he would go to her house with a knife. That same player would also add if she was not guilty of cheating then the player would retire from esports. She would be deemed not guilty and that said player "retire" until it was revealed that the player changed his name from Friez3 to our beloved scrim god Xepher
8:25 - Xepher kinda did a big brain play, he put bomb next to supports so Sado wouldn't jump and kill them instantly with Primal :)
but do u think he meant to

Well at least they are doing something for Season 3
I feel like people sleep on the Spark so much. For coming in 4th overall last year and people talk about them like they are middle of the pack.
can u do season 3? I love ur work its sooooo cooool
Looking at this after Summer Showdown...oof...ooooooof
At least they finally found ground...
Mayhem season ago I’m stupid , now ( I’m going to show I was just training )
To think the Dragons and Mayhem were once rivals we’ll look at the Dragons now
This aged well
Literally the best pick up Mayhem did was to sign Antwn that guy is the only bright spot in the org
that didn't age well
But they turn out to be top 3 Atlantic region xd
Mixed rebuilds work too bearhands.
BQB is actually an OK pickup IDK...
the wheel hates the gladiators theyre gonna be last i swear
I JUST WANT MY SHIELDY BOYS 😢
you rly went and didnt add scrimgod xepher on bastion saving that one game against houston............
It really did suck being a mayhem fan
Every season when the worst team is up you should crown them this season’s crown of ineptitude
The gladiators really are gonna be the last team arent they
Xepher wasn't even decent back in Apex and Seoul Super Cup...
should have had sora on smh
This aged so well....
Kris and bqb gods
this aged like cottage cheese. they’re the fourth seed in north america and are in the playoffs.
Ah yes, the reason why I didn't watch very much OWL for most of stage 2.
Any members of the Church of Gargoyle around?
Just 3 more...
Is it spark time? Im ready for some pretty in pink
this video did NOT aged well
Glads really finna be last 😭
"Their players SUCK" lmao
No mention of the 3rd kit jersey THIS IS A TRAVESTY
If only at that moment they go full Western instead. Shax + Apply + FCTNFCT + McGravy and pick up maybe Crimzo + Fire. Maybe they will be better. But still I would say I quite like their S3 roster if they replace Kris.
That moment when the academy team performs better than the main team
@@yewweilim714 and then they dismissed their academy team.... The management is just pure shit.
Xepher looks like me in my gold games LUL
so no LA Gladiators?
peepoLeave
Sadiators
We can't even watch them play right now
14:18 OMFG XEPHER IS SO FUCKING BAD LOL!!!! How do u miss that! Ur on an owl team and u can’t even use dva boosters right
Isn’t one of the reasons why Mayhem did so bad in S1 because of the teams living conditions? They were like an hour away from the venue and didn’t have cars, Tviq put his team in the backseat and drove the team van to games and practices
Maybe in season 1. As far as I know their living conditions were much better in season 2.

florida was such a waste of OWL slot. they had no identity after kicking out the majority of Misfits, and just became another generic mediocre Korean team.
Not anymore
firekingM101 even now i’d say they’re one of the least identifiable teams. like i dont see anyone from florida actually connecting with them, and their publicity is next to none. yeah their miami vice color scheme was great, but theres nothing beyond the surface. at least teams like NYXL, despite being all Korean, are truly embracing the NY culture and all, making them relatable. florida mayhem is just like some sort of rebadged Korean contenders team
@@konadora so? As long as they do well idc
@@firekingM101 well you're entitled to your opinion equally. just stating my view.
@@konadora I mean I'm from Florida. I don't care at this point, I just want wins.
