- My settings for getting sharp photos with the Nikon 180-600mm lens.
Come along to my hideout and see when I shoot wildlife photography.
I always use autoiso and manual mode. In this way, the photos are always correctly exposed and I can quickly change the shutter speed with the front wheel. The rear wheel is then used for the aperture, which is not changed very often. All photography is individual but this is the best for me. Then I use exposure compensation to fine-tune when I have time. I've shot a lot with 3D tracking and it's worked well for me, but I've noticed that I get more photos in focus if I use the custom area with maximum selection. That is what I am trying to show in this film.
I have now rebuilt my hideout to accommodate my laptop to record from the camera's display. Previously, I had to detach the camera and move it to another lens. In the long run, it will probably be a serious recording thing, but it costs money.

I discovered the channel sometime ago by accident almost as I was searching for bird photography. This is very high quality work. I don't recall any other photographer sharing such good quality pictures and videos. Yes, National Geographic has the best videos. But they are in a different category. Not an individual photographer. Very well done!

Thank you for sharing all of this helpful information. I'm not too impressed with the sharpness of the zoom, although having a zoom especially in a hide/blind can be very useful for composition. Despite the shortcomings of the lens you have captured many wonderful images, you are a really excellent photographer and I'm really enjoying your channel here on CZcams! Cheers from the UK.

it is true that a fixed lens is sharper. But this is an excellent travel and film lens. Have a good time and 🙏

Thank you so much and thank you for your kind comment 🙏🙏😀😀 I'm out shooting so much that I learned different lighting conditions plus the histogram helps a lot. Yes, I don't have filters when I film but I make sure to always double the shutter speed to fps. e.g. if I film at 25bps, the shutter speed is 1/50. If I film eg 4K 120 bps, shutter speeds are 1/250. Having that bird eye at helps big time as well. Can’t believe it has not been released for the z8 yet.

Hi Goran. Wonderful as usual and very informative and helpful. I will try without the 3D tracking and use C2 instead and see how I go. I notice that (for example at the 6:55 point) you seem to use a series of still images shot at 20 FPS. I am surprised at how smooth that looks in the video. I will try this also. Again, many thanks.

beautiful sharp images. Some reviewers have found the lens soft at 600mm. I noticed all of your shots at 600mm were taken at F7.1. Did you find shots at F6.3 were a little soft?

Yes, it's true that I think it loses a bit at 6.3, but if I go down to eg 570, it's not noticeable in my opinion. It is extremely little. almost just a feeling that it is so.

Hello Goran, I love your work! I just bought a Nikon Z7ii and the 180-600mm lens. For some reason, my auto ISO, is grayed out and can’t choose it. Is it because of settings I have to change, so that it will allow me to choose it?
Thank you so much 🙏🙏😀😀 I don’t know your other settings but try to press down the iso button and rotate the front wheel. Its normally toggles between aotoiso and Manuel.
It could also try to run the camera in P mode
Hello, what would you advise is the best af area mode on the nikon z6ii for birds? I shoot manual with auto iso as well and use the tamron 150-600mm g2 lens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Marieta, when I had Nikon Z6 II i use 3D tracking but that was two years ago. Maybee there are some new settings now?
@@Halmstadfoto yes I believe they might be with the firmware updates. The current options on the af area modes are single point, dynamic area, wide area af small, wide area af large, Wide-area AF (L‑people), Wide-area AF (L‑animals), Auto-area AF, Auto-area AF (people), Auto-area AF (animals). I think the last two are supposed to work like 3d tracking but I am not sure this would work for birds as the bird AF option is reserved for the z8 and z9 cameras only. I am still trying to figure out what does what as I only got the camera a couple of weeks ago and before that I was shooting with the D5500 which definitely was not meant to be used for wildlife photography.
Is the Z8 as good as the Z9 in AF and IQ? Thanks.

Most of the time I do that but sometimes I use center weighted. Spot measurement is also used, but rarely. By default I use matrix.

How are you able to take such sharp images with ISO 1600 Exp +1. are you doing anthing extra beyond these settings

The nikon stuff is not relevant to me but i enjoyed the stunning birds and images

Why dont u use the lens wide open but 7.1 or 8
Sometimes when I think the light is sufficient, I turn up a step because I think it will be a bit sharper in certain situations.
