The 122 TM in the second game also mentioned being killed by the WZ without being spotted, and the way they were instantly able to turn around and clap the other guy... Homie was definitely stream sniping

Yeah, I remember when I was watching this stream live I thought the WZ just guessed his flanking position properly. But the leaving/re-entering the cap and especially killing the unspotted 122TM (which I didn't notice him say in chat at the time) leads me to believe it was a stream snipe. That said, if you're going to stream, that happens, it's the drawback. GG QB, great review as always

The WZ in the 2nd replay was clearly stream snipping, He took out the 122 without being spotted as well.
Yeah, what a POS. I thought QB was being paranoid until I re-watched it.
There is a shell impact into the wall in front of it roughly one reloads worth of time before he died. He was spotted the whole time.

The player even said he was unspotted, meaning he must have sixth sense and knows he did not get spotted, so there is little reason for a player to assume that a person is there, plus even if we give him the benefit of doubt and say he got lucky, he still reacted incredibly quick to a tank showing up behind him, remember he has to turn his entire tank around and had to do it immediately after shooting the 122 without knowing that he needed to do that...

I was thinking the exact same thing. I can get a E-25 behind a T29 and easily avoid shots so maybe this Caliban has the same issue vs a E-25? I'll have to test that.

I said I didn't want to spend money for any of these tanks. Till my friends all got the Taliba.. Caliban. I got mine too luckily with box 36. Fun tank but make sure you have a book on your side to read while reloading.

The WZ was definitely stream-sniping. He predicted and was ready for your every move. The 122 TM even said he was killed without being spotted, ie., a blind-shot

What the 122TM said and what is true are two differnt shoes. The WZ was max 200m away and the 122TM tried to sidescrape out, no way he was unspotted. Maybe the 122TM died before his sixth went off but there is no way he was unspotted.

Quick tip - If you raise your gun the oscillating turret hides the weak spot, and the plate beneath the gun is still 240mm thick !

To be honest, I think this is what premiums should be: not necessarily op and top tier competitive, but something unique, something fun you get for the sake of it being unique and fun.
yeah no, this tank is not op and not competitive, but toxic nonetheless. And that's not a trait any premium tank should have. This tank can take out lower tiered tanks with a single shot. With just one magazine it can take out two tanks. Doesn't mater that the aim time, gunhandling and dpm is bad, tanks like this shouldn't be in the game.

Sadly WG would never do that to USSR tanks...only british tanks get these balanced out stats while USSR tanks gets op turrets with very hard to hit weakpoints

I agree with your sentiment, but the Caliban is not a good example of that. This thing is stupid powerful in its area of playstyle, peek-a-boom, but pitifully weak anywhere else. It has one of the highest, if not THE highest, penetration in the game for a tier 8. Top that off with 600 alpha is stupid, there really isnt any way to make this tank balanced enough for plays to play with and against. This thing has too much pen on both HE and AP rounds, too much damage with the autoreloading mechanic, and too much armor for any other tank statistics to matter.

sometimes you get rushed by 2 tanks and one-shot them both, sometimes you miss both shells from near point blank range. its a meme tank and fills that role very well.
The Tiger 2 is like a lockpick cause it's one of the most accurate T8 heavies, the Caliban is a Sledgehammer, nothing more nothing less.
I just watched Claus Kellerman's review on this tank (he hates it) but all throughout it he would most always fire both shots and then start complaining about the reload. I think it should be treated like a double barrel tank where you have the big damage potential but most of the time it is wiser to only shoot one of the shells.
Not only that, Claus had no idea how to play the tank, honestly, where he was going and how he was playing, you'd think he was a noob

thats one of the issues with a lot of the CC's they played it like total shit, ironically AEG played it the best of any of the CC's even skill4tu played it terribly which was such a shame.

Interesting little thing to consider about this tank: it's name.
Caliban was a feral, sullen, misshapen creature in Shakespeare's "The Tempest".
He's (the protagonist) Prospero’s rather dark, very earthy slave, and is frequently referred to as a monster by the other characters.
I genuinely feel like WG were flat out taking the piss with this tank.
Especially by putting it in the Loot Boxes.
I see everyone having a love and hate relationship with this tank😻😿
the main reason I don't like it is bc the aiming circle takes quite a long time to aim...even with equipment that decreases it.

I find using the premium shells works best in it. Now for me its not a problem because I keep tens of millions of credits on hand plus I have a premium account so shell cost is not a problem. Some people won't like playing that way. When with friendlies and you can keep to just firing one shell at a time its not a bad tank but if you are forced to fire two shells or just do it for fun you are completely useless for quite a while as you reload which can be a death wish if alone. This thing ammo racks easily too so you need your crewman to get Safe Stowage perk. Aiming time is bad so that's another issue. Also its slow without a Turbo Charger. I put one on mine to get into positions faster. These are the downsides to the tank.
Me playing the Caliban: "Did he fire 1 shot or 2?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a Caliban with a 155mm cannon, one of the highest alphas in the game and can destroy you from full health. You've gotta ask yourself a question, "Do I feel lucky?" Well do ya, punk?

Yep, that's basically how it is. Your second shell isn't there for performing assassinations outside specific situations. It's there so you can hold the threat of that second shell over your enemies and really make them think twice about interrupting you while you are reloading.

He makes it plainly obvious that he's streamsniping when you put the slightest thought into what's going on here.
The WZ was either watching your stream or running that I-spy-U hack that makes all the buildings, mountains and bushes transparent. He can see all the tanks in his field of view, even it unlit or behind solid objects. Claus and I believe one other CC has videos on it.
There is literally no way for any player to see tanks that the spotting system says aren't spotted. The server won't send that info to your client until the server decides that you can. Making stuff see through on your client just affects rendering, you can't trick the server into saying "this bush isn't here and the enemies 30% camo rating doesn't exist, now show me where he is". I get the impression you don't really understand the spotting system and why hacks wont help you get around it.
More likely WZ was just watching stream or simply got spooked.
It basically has the gun from the T49 in the Mirny-13, on a different platform. I loved it in that mode, so I'm hoping to get it in the lootboxes... just for fun.
A tier 8 premium tank video with ranking would be great like last year.

I trained a specific Commander for this tank! The long aim time isn't really too bad to deal with as the circle isn't really all that big.
With the HE nerf they knows people will fire mostly AP with this thing, so playing this tank is just a credit tax for players
In all honesty - with changes to HE, damage is too inconsistent to honestly call it good.
You get similar or better damage potential with plenty of tank destroyers, without the need to get close to the enemy, and without suffering horrendous reload and being less at the mercy of RNG.
It is kind of a meme tank - basically a shotgun tank - it looks hilarious for what it is, but gimmicks it has will mess you up more often than help you.
It's really fun though, like the KV2. It's not good, but it's fun.

The only real problem with he was the nonpen dam that was too high , they only needed to nerf that instead of transforming it into lowpen heat
@@loboptlu exactly. They needed to change the splash mechanics to lower wrap around damage. HE on a turret would do so much extra to weak top plate armor when the reality is it wouldn't redirect that much energy down to do that damage (artillery shells on a downward trajectory still could). It's all about the physics. Open air will allow more explosive energy to dissipate in other directions. I like to use the example of shooting under a tank. The hard ground absorbs some, but the majority of the force transfers up so it should do more damage. Hitting the side should do next to no damage on the top of the tank because the energy isn't transferring there.
Finding a way to adjust down wrap around damage is what needed to happen. The HE radius needs to take in to account the amount of open air space it has to transfer energy too.
@@riffbw it doesnt need to be so complex . The poor servers lol , but something like in world of warships where you get max 10% of dam if you have overpen could be changed into something similar for he. Its wargaming too so they wouldnt get the excuse for not being able to do so.
You know what would be nice to see in a tank review video? One live game after you show us all the statistics of the tank, like play one game live to see the average game or the worse situations, and then one or two cherry picked replays of your choice, I would love this :)

The game in Safe Haven, it was so satisfying securing the 2 new lootbox tanks consecutively, first aiming at the cupola of the M4Y and then clapping the side of the Tornvagn. That match was the funniest for me.
Edit: It's hard to believe that the Caliban is a HT, not a TD. Several times that I thought Caliban + GSOR '8 platoon was a funny TD combo until I'm reminded that the Caliban is a HT..

I actually use a improved rotation mechanism to help with mobility. I feel that increasing the mobility is the best thing to do on this tann to make it a real assassin
QB I had a good roll for my 75 boxes getting this tank, the Tornvagn, 122TM and the T56, I played them all for a couple of games and had fun with this one. One AP shot score 975 damage and you are correct it was fun. I also got nailed by these when I was in other vehicles and they were tough to take down but I got it done or died. Good thing it's just a game. Keep up the good work and God bless.

So essentially, this tank has:
A big boi autoreloading derpy gun that takes forever to reload once empty
Some ridiculously good rounds
Some abysmally horrible gun handling
Some decent gun elevation and depression angles
A poor top speed
A ridiculously good hp/ton ratio and ground resistances
Prone to rammy bois like the Heavy German Mediums
Has excellent frontal armor
Has side and rear armor so bad that even Tier 1s can penetrate it
A workable amount of HP
Some good concealment for a heavy tank
A decent amount of VR
A very flamey boi that is also one of the largest targets in the game

This might become a platoon tank, you guarantee your own support which isnt otherwise reliable in randoms and the better players will be the ones doing this. It also mitigates my top tier solo heavy concern.
Not sure what I think about this thing. I think I am more focused on how to counter it, then playing it. Lots of reviewers are hating this tank, but I am also seeing that the other reviewers constantly firing both shots, which is pretty often a terrible idea. Loading both rounds and then focusing on using it as a single shot tank is just better, all the way around.
This was a very informative tank review. I was definitely struggling to understand how to play this tank.

Auto-preloader should have an alternate mode to prevent the 2nd shell to be fired, X key to on/off for example. The loading indicator is too small to focus while the big circle only show intraclip reload.
As for the setup, I think I would use vstab + improved aiming + vent on the second slot instead of optics. That slot would be fully reserved for maps such as prokorovka where no matter what you do there would be some kind of sniping that would occur and in that situation I'd rather have better handling rather than extra top speed or vision (since you will never be suitable for vision play anyway)
so WG demolishes HE shells, turning arty and t5h useless, and than puts a premium tank that has insane pen and the nerf means nothing to it. and than you hear it has such ass dpm that its same as a tier 8 light, if not lower. damn i love HE nerfs, 2 out of 3 tier x vehicles i have are useless, and 3rd one isnt meta (t5h t92hmc and strv)

I got all 5 tanks and a skin for the Sheridan within 30 boxes. Bought 75 boxes for gold for the advent calendar but the premium tanks are nice cherries on top. Had 16k gold before and ended with 41k

I was excited that i got the Caliban and tornvagn in a 25 box pack I bought. I really wish I could return this tank. Its just so specific for a situation. Light tank drive in front of you every 40 seconds, its awesome. Anything with armor you're fubard

Kinda want it, just for when I'm playing in platoons, because I remember what the KV2 was like at tier 6 in a platoon. But I think there are several other premium tier 8s I'd rather play solo for credits or crew training that'll feel way more consistent.
It's tanks like this with the long reload that makes me with there was a Loader Skill or piece of equipment in the game which replaces Gunrammers for Autoloader Vehicles. It would reduce the interclip reload but not the intraclip reload.
Instead of turbo, perhaps the improved rotation mechanism? Help with the aiming size in all aspects including after firing.

After some long break I went totally blind into the again game and bought me the lootboxes and I got that thing. First thougt was damn got me a light tank. Then I saw your video and now I feel quite lucky getting that thing. this thing is just plain fun

KV-2(R) is probably cheating since its literally KV-2, for people who really like KV-2 but want to make some credits while doing it.
This is the first true proper derp premium, that is also on T8, because you're not Premium enough if you are not also T8.
I'm a bit confused about the 2 round clip... if one round is loaded ready to fire, and you have another one ready to go, doesn't that make it a 1 round clip?
The one in the breech doesn't really count.

QB, please call out the WG changes to the credit bonus based on collections. Past years I have spent on boxes to get the .5 bonus day one. It may have been explained in the holiday ops video and notes, but if so, I missed this change. It is so much harder to get to the full credit's bonus this year.

Hey Quickybaby Console just got this tank and we have option for single shot gun reload is 18.3 reload which do you think would be better
I'm really enjoying it, it's a hilarious combination of absolutely helpless if you ever have to dip into that second shot in reserve, and completely terrifying. And since as you pointed out it's not really averaging very high damage numbers, it's more of a just quirky fun tank rather then an OP meta tank, which, IIRC you yourself said is what you miss about premiums when they were just a bit weaker then same tier techtree tanks but with some quirky unique mechanics.

hi may i ask how will i have that caliban or the type 63... is there any particular amount of loot box?
people keep saying this tank sucks because of "he nerfs" well if anything this tank gets more benefits then downsides from the HE changes due to having 180mm of HE pen. you can doubletap the side armour of any tank in the entire game, unlike the shitty tech tree derps that have subpar 70-90 HE pen without turrets and without autoreloading, armour, or gun angles.
both autoader and derp (explo) are already OP, so yeah let join theses in a single tank^^
you can delete a tank per minute; there are 15 enemy vehicles; a battle lasts 15 minutes. checks out.

I think it deserves a new point-of-view. Since the last update changed the way we could play most of the tanks, I believe it can be improved significantly thanks to that.
I've been out of the game for a while, but I'd love this. My T-34-3 feels so much better after 1.5 years out of the game.

I absolutely love the Caliban. I always play in a platoon with a friend and just being able to (sometimes) clip two entire enemy tanks is just madness

I think in the last game you played quite predictably. That flanking move, in my opinion, cost you the game. When both of you proxy spotted each other, you pulled back. However, you didn't take into account the 10s spotting so he can clearly see you move in that direction. A different approach that I'd suggest would be to trick him into thinking you are going to flank, turn back, and rush the shot asap so you can kill him before he traverses. Although I don't play WOT, that's what I came up with my 3 years of experience playing the Wot Blitz version.

You're not missing out on much - while it can make you smile once or twice, it's absolutely one of the most frustrating tanks to play.
get the amx 50 100, you basically deal the same damage but with an autoloader that has more accuracy and flexibility.

@@Tai1g yeah I know what you mean.. but the thing is, I love frustrating tanks. Lol it may be a bit of masochism.. but some of my favorite tanks are the t95, the m-v-yoh, t49 and t92e1, the vk 168.. I love all of these tanks and all of their gimmicks. Lol when I first saw the caliban, I thought, "this is the next tank I'm adding to my collection." I only want to buy decidedly stupid tanks on wot pc.. I'm a bit new to it, the first tank I bought was the skoda t56, it was released the day I started playing, and its stronk asf, but very frustrating with its accuracy. I also have the is3a, and the e25.. lol like I said, I love gimmicky tanks.. I wanted to buy the skorpion when it was out, but I just don't want that mainstream playstyle.. I think the caliban will be more niche in the future, and that I'll be one of the people who continues to enjoy playing it.. question, do you have an estimated $ amount that it would take for me to get this tank?..
Tbh i'm happy that i bought 25 Boxes and got the Tornvagn and 122 TM from them, not the Caliban. The Caliban looks like an extremely situational tank that is difficult to truely master and can't box itself out of tricky situations on it's own. The HE-Rework also hinders it dealing with enemies from the front if firing HE.
I myself am and never was good with derp tanks >,< And i've already watched some reviews from other CCs that call the tank the "true definition of Meme cast in steel". From all the 5 of the Tier8 Premiums the Caliban, for me at least, would have been the only true nightmare to draw XP
So yeah... I'm glad not having get it dropped into my Garage. And i've fought enough of them already that i can say that their HE bite is only a thread once you allow it to nibble on your bacon. And it is, in a straight up frontal fight, more often then not helpless against you. Only the AP-shells bite hard. If you, once again, Allow it to bite you. And you can manage to stay away from it rather well since the Caliban's mobility is not the best.
it needs a standard AP round. with 175-220 pen and 600 alpha and id air towards the low end of that scale to make sure you don't geet a FV4004 Conway with armour at tier 8
The he rounds have 180 pen, standard ap would need to have at least the 220

Got 75 box bundle and got all 3 new tanks, 25000 gold and 61 days of premium. Also 3 3d styles. Not bad. Good return on my money
TBH Its perfectly profitable with APs. Each AP costs as much as GSOR AP, but deals twice the damage, and can pen IX, or X tier easily. Im rolling almost full gold, and trading 2x600 vs 1x500 with most X tiers around the corner, while earning 30k to 60k netto credits.
Right now my bad battle looks like 1700dmg (3 shots), while my good battle looks like 3200dmg (8 shots), with the average being 2200dmg per battle currently.
The only thing you have to keep in mind is to always stay around some non-magazine allies, who can cover you. XVM is highly recommended (to find a skilled ally).
Edit: right now I screwed up, died on a flank filled with muppets, dealt only 1700dmg, won, gained 65k credits brutto, 43k netto (+6500 credits into prem vault).
When I saw your first review of this tank I wanted it badly, but I forgot others would have it as well lmao. I'd have one Caliban on the enemy team rush me and clip me and kill me, they'd die doing so (or survive) and then that's the game for me... I don't specifically hate the tank since I'm expecting their numbers to drop later on.
