If breaking it can be 2 fast and easy, so you can just enter without making a lot of noise or looking suspicious... they are useless.. if they can block entrance for long enough or well enough to make thief risk a lot... they are usually enough.

If you only have passive security measures in place (locks on doors as opposed to alarms, cameras, and security personnel) the brief noise won't be enough to cause the thief/intruder any major issues. With a padlock it's even easier because then all you have to do is break the lock (which this channel demonstrates is ridiculously easy) or the thing connecting the lock to the door/frame. At the end of the day, proximity alarms (that make noise *_and_* alert a security service) and motion sensitive cameras are going to do more for your security than any lock, especially a cheap padlock.
LPL is informative, sure, but our boy McNally is beyond horrifying when it comes to attacking locks. Man's got a team of hitman from Brink's and Masterlock trying to get to him 24/7 but luckily for him they've never seen a real lock in their careers so they can't get close enough to do the job!

It’s not if your identity will be stolen, only when will it be stolen, and who’s going to clean things up when it does get stolen. Id theft insurance is so someone else spends the time cleaning up. Locks are just so your thing is slightly more effort to steal than someone else.
