I like that he’s using Shaws old helmet again in this scene. Kind of symbolizes him reverting back to his revenge seeking ways.
It's even more symbolic when Jean started crushing Magneto's helmet the same way he did to his first two victims, where their heads were crushed by their own helmets.
This is by far my favourite version of the helmet! Here it looks so badass!!
Guys, I get that the fight could’ve been visually more impressive (but that’s true for the whole movie), but power-wise it totally makes sense. This is the Phoenix. Erik never had a chance.

Phoenix is one of the definitive powers in the X-men, she trumps Magneto. He was utterly underestimating her because his need to get in there and kill her overwhelmed his reason. Jean had never been that powerful before, and her power is unstable - Magneto was willing to die in the attempt, he wasn't thinking straight. He's also just used to being a definitive powerhouse when metal is around, and she just played with him. He might've tried several other tacts, but she shut them all down and we just didn't see them.
To be fair, they should've found a better way to visualize this.

You shouldn't have had to read some other comic book to understand understand why or actually believe that he was outmatched, they should have made it clear and believable in this movie, and it was more believable in The Last Stand, but this scene made Magneto look pathetic against a much less developed character whose ridiculous amount of power seems more forced then believable

Magneto can move Earth's axis and capable of destroying it but he will die because he destroy the Earth that sustains him and mutant life. He will die in space. He can only destroy worlds but the Phoenix can destroy the entire galaxy and capable of reshaping it. So Jean has the most advantage than Magneto even without the Phoenix. Jean is an omega lvl mutant. Omega lvl means that powers that are limitless and beyond control. Professor X is an alpha lvl mutant because there's a limit to his powers where he can't reach persons mind in far location so he needs Cerebro. I only include Prof X to explain to you what is Omega lvl.

my main issue is that the force is just there as the first movie, its never shown by itself nor explained deeply
yea but we can atleast get some lore accurate battle scenes. i mean apocalypse or not, magneto was pretty op last movie, so getting nerfed this much in this movie really doesn't make sense lore-wise. It is entertaining, but the scene was underwhelming. I think this is what people were trying to get at.

From the perspective of The X-Men outside, Magneto - One of the most powerful mutants in existence - walked into that building with a literal train of metal behind him and was thrown out a minute later, unconscious, with pieces of his iconic helmet lodged in his chest.
The poetic irony of her squishing his helmet, the same way he did with the German guards in First Class, was en pointe.
Sadly, you can't save a movie this bad with one callback.

True power is in small scales. Magneto’s entire powers were focused on that single metal railing. All the magnetic force he could use to bring down satellites was focused on that one thing he was trying to use to quickly, effectively and surely kill Jean.

I think one of the reasons magneto is incredibly “weak” in this film has to do with his emotional state, and his practice. He hasn’t been “bad” per-say in a good decade, hasn’t had to fight for his life after he founded Genosha. He’s lived pretty peacefully.
While in first class Charles removed his psychological locks on his powers, which he carried over into Days of Future Past. He got them back In Apocalypse, but after his wife and daughter were killed, and with the motivation from Apocalypse, (I also believe that even though he didn’t “boost” Erik exactly, I do believe he removed his psychic blocks like Charles did slighty) he was able to move the very earth itself.
But like Charles said, his power comes from his heart, the rage only get him so far, and he has to have balance in order to use his powers very effectively. Which I think he didn’t have in this movie.
its also this, jean is omega level+pheonix force, he has no chance, even with the power boost from apocalypse, but good points, the dude is walking trauma, mom and family killed in germany, wife and daughter killed out of fear, this man is just burnt out and probably at times, very dead inside, prof x and him will need to chat because prof x will help counsel him on his loss and thats the beauty of prof x ad magneto, they are best friends, they just have different ideologies about mutants and their place in the world.

Michael fassbender is the best magneto imo. Ian mckellen too. They both killed it portraying magneto. I hope Mickey Mouse will let them reprise their role as magneto since Marvel got the x men back.
With all this Sophie hate, I’m about to give y’all the hot take of the X Men franchise that no one would: She’s a great actress and all of course, but Famke Jansen looked too fucking old to play Jean Grey to me. I love her. I think she’s gorgeous and she was while in the role. But fam, reading the comics and seeing Jean vs watching Famke’s version was jarring to me. Again, her acting in the role was phenomenal, but LOOK, I was never sold on her as Jean grey. And look aren’t ALWAYS everything in comic movies, but when you look at someone like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Wesley Snipes’ Blade or honestly majority of the MCU, they all LOOK comic accurate, with modern takes on their costumes. Sophie certainly LOOKS more Jean to me & tbh, I felt the grief & anguish of the DP taking over Jean thru her. And under it, she felt cold and like a sociopath, I believed it. Acting wise, not on Famke’s level, but the look plus what she gave, made me feel more Jean as a whole with her tbh.

I don't understand why people keep saying this fight wasn't fair lol. I mean, you all know that Jean Grey is more powerful than Magneto, right? Even without the Phoenix, she's one of the most powerful telekinetics in the Marvel universe. Not to mention, she had the Phoenix in her in this scene.

The Phoenix is the most powerful/strongest/fastest mutant. No one can beat her. Magneto has no any chance to beat her. He is really NOTHING compared to the Phoenix. Maybe, Magneto can move an entire planet BUT the Phoenix can move the universe. Please! Read the comics before you make unmeaningful rants. No matter how powerful Magneto is, he is nothing against the Phoenix. Again! Read the comics.
PS: Yes, I agree he should have had better scenes with this movie but having a scene where he beats the Phoenix?...NEVER!!! That never even happened in the comics. Hahahahha don't be funny.

And this isn't her strongest form/level. When Jean becomes the white phoenix of the crown she is even more powerful and deadly. The White Phoenix is the ultimate cosmic power, able to manipulate time and space on a level far beyond even the Dark Phoenix. I'm surprised the movie didn't show this 😕

Magneto felt like kylo ren in this movie. Jean embarrassed him the same way rey embarrassed kylo ren. Hopefully of the mcu is making an x men movie they have magento do powerful feats like the comics. Also i do think jean would literally turn magneto into dust. But at the same time he did become a celestial but i didn't care.
Difference is Jean's power and abilities have an actual story supporting them. Rey's abilities are just plot armor, same as Anakin and Luke before her.

Against Jean alone Magnego can win. But remember Jean had the phoenix force inside of her. Phoenix force is a cosmic entity that can never die. The Phoenix force has had many hosts including Cyclops, Xavier, Storm, Emma Frost and of course Jean. The power of the Phoenix force usually corrupts its hosts and they become evil.
Lol, Jean alone without the force is Able to Lift everything. EVERYTHING. Problem is she didn't Know how to use them properly. While Magneto only controls Things that are related to Metal. @@blinkycosmo2158 thats not true. Magnetos powers go beyond beinf able to just lift metal. He can move anything with his magnetic powers. The whole only able to control metal objects was wrongly pushes by Bryan Singer. Magneto can create incredibly strong em shields around himself. Jean without phoenix would probably lose against magneto because magneto is a team buster. Im not saying jean herself isnt more powerful than him but the field is a lot more even when she doesnt have the phoenix force and magnetos experience gives him a huge advantage. Mutants like Jean, Storm, Iceman should be able to overpower magneto but they generally dont because they hold back a lot while he doesnt.

This version of Dark Phoenix is just not dark enough for me. Although Jean Grey was at an internal war with the Phoenix, the writer could have made her more self-aware of her new found power. Sophie's portrayal of Dark Phoenix is too passive. It seemed as if she was oblivious to the fact that she had become one with one of the most powerful forces in the Marvel universe. Phoenix!
All in all, Phoenix is one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe. They just need better writers, directors, and more time to develop her story line. You can't rush Dark Phoenix's; there too much to unpack. Actually it would be better as a series.
