My opinion of that boat, once I saw all its special features , is that it is a gem. Whoever found it for you was doing you a very special favor. Nothing but the best for that boat would be my rule if I owned it. Far more than just an old boat ! You should get the kids to do the color matching and then you be the one that puts it on. I think that would work.

Having worked in the industry for more than 30 years gelcoat is by far almost impossible to color match. even the cure time once you have added the catalyst can have an effect on the color. You have done a great job

Gees Lee, I’m exhausted watching that, never did I think playing with paint or tints was so difficult, good job on the repairs and nice to know that’s behind you. 👍🏼

For a first timer you have done very well. It takes practice, consistent lighting and intimate knowledge of your product formulation to get it spot on. (I colour matched cosmetics and other products for decades) Those pots of tint are fabulously strong. I would have started by mixing 1g in a kg of base and tinted with that. More realistically, I would have started with 1/100g tint in 10g of base but I doubt Sara's scale is as good as mine. I was waiting for it to go green when you added the thickener. Consider yourself lucky that you only have to get one pot right once and don't have to commit to a formula where a batch would buy your boat. Again, well done you.

Couple things you could do with the gelcoat is those tape lines make them like diamond shapes so you don’t have such hard straight lines. Buff the whole hull in that area prior to sanding anything. Whatever you’re using to apply the gel coat apply it to a big piece of wood right on the edge or even lay up some fiberglass and put some filler and then spray it is typically what we do so we know we have the exact everything to make it match. But it needs to be at least a one by one square sample.

You need to buff the area around your repair before you try to match it. Then wet sand and buff it all together in the end (once you get the color matched of course 😉)

if you really had to, you could open a bank account locally, even in Mexico and then wire yourself money. It is always best practice to have at least 2 credit cards though.
