My opinion of that boat, once I saw all its special features , is that it is a gem. Whoever found it for you was doing you a very special favor. Nothing but the best for that boat would be my rule if I owned it. Far more than just an old boat ! You should get the kids to do the color matching and then you be the one that puts it on. I think that would work.
All the trial and error will be worth it in the end!! The varnish work looks great too!!
It sure will thanks ☺️
Someone once said ,"perfect is the enemy of good". I think it was Voltaire. You did a good job.
Having worked in the industry for more than 30 years gelcoat is by far almost impossible to color match. even the cure time once you have added the catalyst can have an effect on the color. You have done a great job
Thanks that’s reassuring 😅
Gees Lee, I’m exhausted watching that, never did I think playing with paint or tints was so difficult, good job on the repairs and nice to know that’s behind you. 👍🏼
I forsee a new TV series ... "Colouring with Captn Lee". Great job on the matching - the devil is always in the detail 😊.
Nice job on the varnishing too Bella - looks great!
Have a great week 🎉
Haha not sure he wants to be apart of that series 🤣
I remember my dad and I trying to make the perfect Bloody Mary… after several hours we succeeded. We moved on to the perfect screwdriver…. Loved this video… go make the perfect drink
For a first timer you have done very well. It takes practice, consistent lighting and intimate knowledge of your product formulation to get it spot on. (I colour matched cosmetics and other products for decades) Those pots of tint are fabulously strong. I would have started by mixing 1g in a kg of base and tinted with that. More realistically, I would have started with 1/100g tint in 10g of base but I doubt Sara's scale is as good as mine. I was waiting for it to go green when you added the thickener. Consider yourself lucky that you only have to get one pot right once and don't have to commit to a formula where a batch would buy your boat. Again, well done you.
Thanks it definitely not an easy task hats off to you and your craft ☺️
Couple things you could do with the gelcoat is those tape lines make them like diamond shapes so you don’t have such hard straight lines. Buff the whole hull in that area prior to sanding anything. Whatever you’re using to apply the gel coat apply it to a big piece of wood right on the edge or even lay up some fiberglass and put some filler and then spray it is typically what we do so we know we have the exact everything to make it match. But it needs to be at least a one by one square sample.
Thanks for the tips 😁
High drama this week. One step forward two steps back but in the end it will be perfect.. Don’t loose that momentum to splash keep that positive attitude.. Good things happen to great people.. I always learn something from your channel even if it’s a small mistake.. My wife giggles and says will this be our life in the future.. oops… Your my favorite family channel.. Take care
You need to buff the area around your repair before you try to match it. Then wet sand and buff it all together in the end (once you get the color matched of course 😉)
Toothpicks for tinting a batch of white are handy.
I know you are anxious to get out on the water but I've really enjoyed watching all of the work you've been doing in dry dock. I've been impressed with the knowledge and skills.
You guys are great. I can imagine how frustrating this has been. But your videos are interesting and entertaining anyway! Soldier on.
Splash day will get here... And the boat yard will become a memory.
A tad of black would help it blend also possibly
I want to comment on the colour selection process but I am struggling to get the balance of praise and sarcasm right, I will have it sorted by Christmas.
🤣
That credit card thing is a real bummer. Hang in there. Good job Bella.
Gday… U skips are awesome .. when’s the next “live cross “ … cheers … take care luv ya work
I would have just stuck with the white. Life is too short.
Getting a little warm for boat work out there. Hope you launch soon.
U might try thinning and put in prevail sprayer( see home depot)
Just put on your Rose tinted sun glasses Every body should have some?????????😎😎😎
Agree 😍
if you really had to, you could open a bank account locally, even in Mexico and then wire yourself money. It is always best practice to have at least 2 credit cards though.
I read where Macquarie Bank is going completely digital. Could that be the reason why they took your credit card away from you?
Buff it when ur done
What tool was that when you were grinding out the wounds? It was just a short clip so I couldn't tell. I'm kinda a tool junkie
A die grinder 😁
