    Great advice here lads. Thank you so much. I’m right at the point in my wing and prone foiling journey where you seem to be targeting your videos at the moment, so I’m learning a lot that’s super helpful. Well done. Keep up the good work! All the best to you both, from South Australia.

    Great guys. Thanks a lot. Heading to Portugal and only have a 5‘0 54l wing board as smallest with me. No way trying to prone it or should I give it a try? Cheers!

      Hi mate,
      The issue with big boards in the surf is that they are hard to manipulate. The white water can throw them around and it can get ugly. You also want be able to duck dive it.
      That all being said, it will work if it’s small.
      Hope that helps.

    Great video guys. Please one more advise. I kitefoil, I surf, but I had never prone foil surf. I am 76 kg (170lb). I am about tu purchase the North 4´4 33 liters. I know 40lt would be better to learn but I could pay the sacrifice and start with the 33lt since that could board will be better to kitefoil on in also. What do you think? could I get away with the 33lt or should I go higer to 40lt? Many many thanks.

      My advice would be to go as big as possible. 40L would be best. It will delay your learning by going too small.

    Thanks for the tips guys. I am 205 lbs what size of board would you recommend for a beginner?

      Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. I’d recommend a 42l board for your weight. Further down the track you’ll be able to downsize to 35l. Enjoy the journey 🤙

    Nice vid. Just started winging. Tried the hugely tubby 4”10 85 litre wing board for prone foiling yesterday, it was hopeless, couldn’t catch a single wave. Is it just me being crap, or is it a totally inappropriate board for prone? Thanks

      Hi mate, Yes, you are right there. Using a winging board for learning to prone is not the best. I would recommend getting a 40L prone specific board. Hope that helps.

    what about foil volume compared to surfboard "roll of thumbs" (weight, fitness etc)?

    • @hydrofoilacademy
      @hydrofoilacademy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think you end up on around the same volume. I surf a 28l and I prone a 28l.

      @@hydrofoilacademy thanks. my board is 53l...(old and heavy) so I wonder how a foil that big will look like :)

    whats the size should i buy? i am 71kg, and 182 cm talls. Knows how to pump well but never try prone surf before. But dont want to buy too much gear, it would be nice to buy only one board. Any suggestion?

      @hydrofoilacademy  Před 11 měsíci +1

      If you have never proned before you want to start on big gear or you will delay your progress massively. Something like a 35-40L board and 1200-1500cm2 foil will be best.
