The CX9 is probably the most underrated 3 row SUV, at least from an overall sales perspective. It originally wasn't on my short list until I started reading the user forums. Ater 2 long test drives of all the popular 3 row SUVs, I was sold on the CX9. There are alot of comments in some of these car videos about the CX9 not having enough interior room. While it is true the CX9 is a little smaller on the inside, it wasn't as significant as the excellent driving dynamics and overall reliability. It is important that buyers determine which of the vehicle's characterisctics are most important to them.

Our family decided on the CX-9 sig. model. Not sure of the color yet. Grey or Red not sure as I already own a 2016 cx-5 in red. But the new red is slight different and I mean much nicer looking.
I moved alway from the Hybrid Toyota plat. cause of 4cyl instead of the 6cly and most importantly the seats comfortable is very similar to the 2010 model. The seats have no give so for long trips anything more the. Hour or two our backs and tush would start to ache. We always rented a Tahoe on long trips and left home the limited 2010 Toyota Highlander. So wasted tons of money renting vehicles for 10years while owning the truck. Unreliable as heck, then again it's a Toyota what do we except. So if you are not to bother by seat comfortable them both are good choices.

Great review. A few things to add. The Radar cruise control (adaptive cruise control) stops and starts automatically with its stop and go feature, so no need to gas, nor brake after it stops. You may need to hit the resume button if you have been on stop for a short time. Also the tailgate has a foot sensor underneath to open and shut it.

I know I just tagged you in my Instagram post but; this review and your Subaru acent review were extremely helpful and key into my choice to go with a Mazda CX-9! You covered everything I could ever ask and showed the high trims on both. Thank you so much Zack, couldn’t be happier with my new 2021 Mazda CX-9 (touring with the premium package) . Appreciate you man!

This is now based from a 5 year design (introduced in 2016 MY) and while getting old it is still admired and gets compared to newer 2020/2021 designs which says a lot about Mazda’s Kodo design which has aged very well! Can’t say the same about other vehicles in its class!

@@gramnegative01You're lucky. My 2012 CX-9 GT with some 186,000 miles has had a number of issues. Changed fuel injector $550, driver side window $450, lift hate motor $350, suspension rods and wheel rods $600. Power roof and driver seat motor burned out. Park brake fog lights never worked, changed headlights 4 times at $100 each. MPG is abysmal at 11 mpg.

We are considering leasing a CX-9 GT. Thanks for the great and enthusiastic review. I agree with 99% of what you said about this great SUV. I do differ a bit on the Bose stereo. We are currently leasing a 2018 Mazda6 Signature and the Bose Centerpoint system in the 6 sounds noticeably better IMO. Outside of that I agree with the rest of your assessment. The dealer I am working with is giving us a great lease. The Acura and Toyota dealers cant touch this lease on a comparably priced RDX and Highlander.

I would strongly recommend not buying a Mazda. We purchased a brand new Mazda CX9 and within 2 years had problems with a rough idle. Was told after second year it just needed new spark plug wires. Dealer could never recreate rough idle. 4 years later we took it in for an oil change and was told the cylinder head was leaking coolant.....Cylinder heads on back order for two months due to known problem of leaking. the only solution was either a refurbished engine or New engine from dealer. Warranty just expired but dealer and Mazda just says sorry either return your loaner car or replace the engine at your cost! Horrible experience......$4600.00 lesson learned. Please do yourself a favor and do not purchase a $40,000 car from Mazda only to have to purchase a $4600.00 engine in less than 4 years and trade in value now only $14,000 after new engine. NEVER again!
