Correct me if I'm wrong, but the C96 actually loads with a clip from the top and not a magazine. The actual screen used DL-44 blaster and all the other blasters on set where functioning firearms. They even fired blanks in som of the scenes.
Brandon R it is a World War one and two german Pistol. It is called Mauser C96. The British called it the Bromhandle. i am an german sorry for my bad english
All you haters complaining about the seams and the screws/screwholes: piss off. I'm pretty sure this was meant to be a quick and easy mod, and all things considered it looks super nice.
I've been holding to one of those blasters for a couple of months now... And your tutorial is by far the easiest I've seen showing how to mod it. Great work!
I was going to do the same as you Chris, but had the same problem with the price pf getting the gun.. So I tried finding it in my local area, and while doing that a guy contacted me and offered to 3D-print a DL-44 for me. The price was good so I jumped on it! It looks fantastic! Took some extra work, but it is far better looking than the toy. So if you ever want to revisit the DL-44, consider doing that.
Awesome job as usual, you really brought it to life! One correction at 1:27, the real-life base is a Mauser pistol, which is from Germany, rather than Russia.
Honestly the Rubie's prop is amazing and such a simple build and only costs around 20 bucks to make (I'm including paint in this price estimate). The funny thing is so many cosplayers I know buy this thing in bulk every Halloween, spend 2 or 3 days painting it, and then sell it on Etsy for close to 100 bucks since it's so close to the actual prop. It's amazing what you can do with a drill, a can of spray paint, and some basic enamels or acrylics.
For those who are interested, Adam Savage does a Tested One Day Build where he does a DL-44. Lots of background info on what kind of gun was used, what stuff was added, and the film this gun was used in before Star Wars.
It's always so awesome to see someone use their correct hand rather than their right hand. : ) Really great results and a superb presentation on making it. Keep being awesome!
The part at the end of the barrel has many names depending on its design and application. Flash hider, recoil compensator, muzzle brake, etc.. For Han Solo's DL-44, at least the one that toy is supposed to be, the flash hider was from a MG 81 machine gun used on Luftwaffe aircraft during World War II. Consequently, that machine gun was made by the same manufacturer as the C96 pistol that the blaster is based on.
my current blaster is a repainted 1978 Kenner Han Solo blaster, but I am working on converting a Mauser C96 air pistol with metal parts for weight and accuracy.
The original gun was made from a Mauser C96 (chambered in 7.63x25 Mauser) with the flash hider (that muzzle cone) from a MG81 aircraft machine gun (chambered in 7.92mm), and a WWI era german Hensoldt Wetzlar Dialyt 3x scope on a custom mount.
Hey man, if you want a little bit more accurate DL-44 on a budget, the Disney Han Solo blasted (blue one from Disneyland) is awesome. The scope is raised (and is see through, can also be removed), it has all the pieces to it. And probably the best part, it has lights and sounds just like in the movie! About 20 bucks.
Very cool mate, I did something like this but I took the gun apart and glued a lot 1p coins in the handle and and spare parts to give weight too. I like the idea of a real scope!
I love seeing how the team at Lucasfilm adapted real guns into blasters, even if nowadays they borderline just use real guns, even (presumably on accident?) keeping the giant, very visible magazines. But then again it raises the question, why would you even use a blaster when a gun exists. Also I think you were close, Han's DL-44 is definitely a Russian or axis design, I'm pretty sure the mauser machine pistol or some gun very similar to it was its basis, there's quite a few.
I repainted my gun as well but I could say, a few things to really get that screen look would be filling in the screw holes in with bondo, and sanding down the seams of the gun, I didn't put a real scope either though but I'd really like to.
Great build! Suggestion - pick up some gun bluing - its a protective oil like substance that is used to protect the steel elements in the firearm and its what gives a gun its unique shades/tints.
Excellent work on customizing that blaster. I have one of those as well and thanks to your step by step instructions I'll be going ahead and doing this to my blaster as well to get it ready for any cons coming up here in Houston.
I’ve seen so many tutorials on this exact toy, AND I FOUND IT!!!!!! FOR $10!!!!! And it was a German C-96 Mauser with a German sniper scope, a barrel of a German minigun on an airplane, and a piece from a model airplane kit
A bit of a design backstory, the DL-44 is modeled off of a WW1 German Mauser L96 pistol with an LMG (can't think of the name right now) mussel break and a marksman scope
beautiful work as always but if you get a chance you'll want to get your hands on the 1995 hasbro model it seems more spaced out and reflecs solo's blaster from new hope
This is awesome because I just painted the exact same gun the exact same way several months ago using the techniques I learned from your other collectibles and it came out freaking awesome. keep up the good work man
The History of the blaster was modified from the Mauser C96 that the German Empire used in WW1 very advanced weapon at its time for holding 10 rounds in the clips instead of 8 rounds.
German Mauser, what does sidemounted scope. An MG 42 barrel compensator and a little piece on the front of the magazine is from an engine of a model plane
Nice vid, used to have one like it that my dad painted over, btw it's a German C96, or the Broomhandle Mauser, depending on which you'd rather call it.
The music at the end makes me think of how climatic the episode 9 final light saber fight with Rey is going to be. Also I have a feeling fin is going to get the Hans blaster.
06:45 Cosplay Chris doing Robert DiNero doing Han Solo.....lol. I so want a great quality DL-44 blaster. Its second on my list. 1st is Deckards gun from Blade Runner. Rob.
That is awesome. Could you reply with the list of all the brand and color names of those paints, primer and gloss you used and where you bought them? I'd totally would like to give it a try myself. Again that looks like movie quality to me!!
Chris the original gun was a German Mauser pistol from both world war 1 and 2
Nice call, a Mauser C96 to be precise, with the magazine removed.
+The ghost of Sammy classic Sonic fan and random shit stuck to it
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the C96 actually loads with a clip from the top and not a magazine. The actual screen used DL-44 blaster and all the other blasters on set where functioning firearms. They even fired blanks in som of the scenes.
+The Naturrutan you are wrong, it was a magazine loading
The C96 had both a magazine and a top loading "stirpper clip".
That blaster... It belongs to me!
😂😂
It belongs in a museum
Kylo Ren (turns on lightsaber) shut up I'm giving it to his other son ben
Mimikyu Empire I thought Kylo Ren was Ben... Kylo Ren was what his name was changed to...
...Come get it.
So sick like always.
I get giddy like a school girl when I see a new Custom Collectable.
Lol same
SAME
Brandon R hahahah
Brandon R it is a World War one and two german Pistol. It is called Mauser C96. The British called it the Bromhandle. i am an german sorry for my bad english

All you haters complaining about the seams and the screws/screwholes: piss off. I'm pretty sure this was meant to be a quick and easy mod, and all things considered it looks super nice.
The nozzle in a New Hope is more black. He had different versions of the gun in Empire and up... those had the silver nozzle.
may the force be with Carrie

we'll miss you, our princess leia "carrie " may the force be with you and fuck kylo ren......
:’(
I've been holding to one of those blasters for a couple of months now... And your tutorial is by far the easiest I've seen showing how to mod it. Great work!
There is something very satisfying watching this stuff evolve with paint and a bit of effort...almost meditative in a way.
I got the same exact toy in March and I had no idea how to properly paint it so thank you, Chris!
Truly awesome. Simple yet effective techniques delivered plain and simple to camera - the hallmarks of a master artist. Great stuff!
Ha, shit to legit. That could be the custom collectibles catchphrase.
The only thing thats really off is the scope, cause its way too close to the body of the gun
Mr Duke Silver and it’s kinda covering where you would reload
Nater Tater you can’t reload in Star Wars you use lasers
Master of being Lit Sort of complicated when it comes to that. Clone Wars reveals there is a sort of cartridge.
Jory DaHungryChubs oh thank you I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was three years old
yea the scope on the cinema version is canted on the left side like a lee enfield
0:00 idky but that never gets old
I was going to do the same as you Chris, but had the same problem with the price pf getting the gun.. Sick asf. You're finishing what EVERYONE started
Without a doubt one of the best you have ever done.
It's always so awesome to see someone use their correct hand rather than their right hand. : ) Really great results and a superb presentation on making it. Keep being awesome!

I swear every cosplay I'm doing, you have a vid on it. I LOVE IT
Did the same thing with the orange and white Rubies prop toy gun. Came on great. Wish I could post here
The original gun was made from a Mauser C96 (chambered in 7.63x25 Mauser) with the flash hider (that muzzle cone) from a MG81 aircraft machine gun (chambered in 7.92mm), and a WWI era german Hensoldt Wetzlar Dialyt 3x scope on a custom mount.
Had to watch it a dozen times to get all the techniques and paint, ect, but love the look I got, Thanks great video.
Hey man, if you want a little bit more accurate DL-44 on a budget, the Disney Han Solo blasted (blue one from Disneyland) is awesome. It looks like a pretty good replica without the modding. Also, it was a mauser c96 (German handgun)
Found this for $6 at Party City today. Bought it and had to see what it'd look like painted up. Fantastic job.
Beautiful job! I just ordered one of these off eBay to customize. Can’t wait!
Very cool mate, I did something like this but I took the gun apart and glued a lot 1p coins in the handle and and spare parts to give weight too. I like the idea of a real scope!
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
Alt+Doom great kid don’t get cocky

Absolutely phenomenal. I'll be attempting this in a day or two for one of my nephews Christmas presents... Thank you!!! Cheers!
The gun was a german Mauser C96 with a specific barrel made for the movie and a muzzle break from a german machine gun that was used on a plane.
Dude I'm in awe of your ingenuity and creativity. much respect
Rewatching this, would love to see it revisited since Solo recently came out !
I’ve seen so many tutorials on this exact toy, AND I FOUND IT!!!!!!
FOR $10!!!!!
And it was a German C-96 Mauser with a German sniper scope, a barrel of a German minigun on an airplane, and a piece from a model airplane kit
I actually customized this exact blaster for my han solo cosplay
Mad respect man. You do us proud.
Nice! You know you did a good job when it looks almost like the screen used prop.
Wow!!!!! Definitely gonna go to DIY now for a con! Thanks for sharing the tips! Looks AMAZING!
Night and Day! You make it look so easy! I love the adding the silver to the edges to give it the worn look! Well done! Love your vids!
nice one.I did the same thing with the one I got for $10 bucks at a Halloween express a few years back.I never thought about shooting a video for it.
Chris i miss those old 20-30 minute custom collectible videos!!!
Chris I don't know how you do it but you always go above and beyond. Great job!
looks amazing so realistic looking very artistic creative skills here.
the body of the blaster was a mauser "broom handle" machine pistol and the mussel was a flash eliminator from a .303 aircraft machine gun.
Chris, according to Adam and Norm from Tested it's a Flash Suppressor from a MGA One aircraft machine gun.
The nozzle in a New Hope is more black. He had different versions of the gun in Empire and up... those had the silver nozzle.
gonna use this for my rubies batfleck grapnel gun since it has a similar color scheme, ty as always chris
Good job!
The original gun was a German Mauser C96. The piece on the barrel was a flash hider I believe.
A bit of a design backstory, the DL-44 is modeled off of a WW1 German Mauser L96 pistol with an LMG (can't think of the name right now) mussel break and a marksman scope
Great video it is very helpful. I am making a Han Solo fan film and was looking for a good way to customize that gun, you did a great job!
beautiful work as always but if you get a chance you'll want to get your hands on the 1995 hasbro model it seems more spaced out and reflecs solo's blaster from new hope
This is awesome because I just painted the exact same gun the exact same way several months ago using the techniques I learned from your other collectibles and it came out freaking awesome. keep up the good work man
Now I know what my next project is going to be! Thanks for the tutorial and keep your videos coming, I always enjoy watching your channel sir.
it was a mouser c-96 with make shift parts to look like a scope. also the muzzle brake is from a plane machine gun.
Commander Cody chillin behind you like: *when are you gonna make a DC-15A Blaster Carbine?*
@cosplaychris you should make deadshots Sniper rifle from suicide squad next...
Great build chris, you made a crappy looking DL - 44 look respectable
I found it so funny when we said "thought I'd have to force the fucker out" 😂
I'm a Star Wars geek so I think it looks awsome
The History of the blaster was modified from the Mauser C96 that the German Empire used in WW1 very advanced weapon at its time for holding 10 rounds in the clips instead of 8 rounds.
huh just realized that you would make a badass cosplay Han Solo!
German Mauser, what does sidemounted scope. An MG 42 barrel compensator and a little piece on the front of the magazine is from an engine of a model plane
For the scope you can add a magnifying glass piece and cut accordingly.
From one nerd to another, great job.
Awesome custom job Chris!
Nice vid, used to have one like it that my dad painted over, btw it's a German C96, or the Broomhandle Mauser, depending on which you'd rather call it.
Thanks for this! I've been looking at doing this for a while for a cosplay I've been working on but I didn't know what paint to use, thanks!
This is one of my favorite custom collectibles
The music at the end makes me think of how climatic the episode 9 final light saber fight with Rey is going to be. Also I have a feeling fin is going to get the Hans blaster.
Pro tip for anyone following this, rub n buff is a fantastic alternative to a traditional drybrush
Harley quinn bat please!!!
Funny you had posted this video two days after I finished my own Han blaster makeover.
Adam Savage would love this!
You sir are a true artist....Awesome job
This is my favourite series on youtube - keep up the good work Chris 👌👌👌
Did you ever do the scope for it?
Watch Tested's "Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster", they talk about the history of the blaster!
The front part is a MG81 steel flash hider
The main gun is a German broom handle Mauser
haha, nice posing at the end. That is some awesome detail work, Chris!
love the refin Chris, im doing what you did only not gonna weather it.. at first anyways.. thanks for the tutorial
If you're looking for some details about the blaster, look up the channel "tested". They have a video all about the pistol.
I actually love these toy guys even the bvs one
The main body of the gun is a mauser pistol used in ww1 add a scope and I believe the barrel was a ak-74u I'm not sure on that
Awesome video ! I want the dawn of justice GUN
that's amazingly realistic
I could see you doing a Han Solo cosplay.
Awesome! Now I want to repaint something else. You make a really nice Han Solo :D
awesome dude. I did somthing similar with the old Hasbro Rebel blaster nerf launcher .
That blaster is the dl44 and it is ham solos primary blaster, originally based off of the German Luger
Michael sullivan It's actually based off the German C96
The piece at the end of the barrel is an M9 flash hider from a M3A1 grease gun.
