    I own a 2015 981 GTS. Following your video, I did exactly the same swap. First, thanks for the video. It was very helpful and an excellent guide on how to do the swap correctly. Thanks for the torque settings. Finally, I agree with the impact that a new steering wheel can make. Personally, the new wheel looks better but it also creates a feel of more space. I know this sounds silly, but every time I sit in my car, I get this feeling. Lastly, my old sport design wheel was ALCANTARA. I only drove with gloves and protected the suede as much as possible. However, at the end of the day, ALCANTARA does not wear well, for touchpoints with the hand. The new Napa leather feels better and stays like new.......

      Hey there! Can either of you help me decide on what steering wheel would be better in terms of reach (the adjustment in the steering column is not enoug)h) I would have installed a spacer behind the stock but that would take the stalks too far back, so i figured maybe one of these upgraded wheels might do the trick. If there is any difference, which one comes slightly closer to the driver? Thanks!

    • @uweheinrich6784
      @uweheinrich6784 Před 8 měsíci

      I had the sport design steering wheel (BEFORE picture) and upgraded to the new wheel (AFTER). In my humble opinion, the reach to the rim is actually quite the same by unadjusted steering column. What is different is the airbag location. In the 981 sport steering wheel (BEFORE picture), the airbag is actually closer to you as it "comes out" and sits before the rim. In the new wheel, the airbag is lower and sits slightly behind the rim. This creates a feel of more space when sitting behind the steering wheel. I love the new wheel. Prior the exchange, I thought that the old sport design wheel is as good as it gets, but since I switched to the new wheel, I actually like it much better and consider it a great upgrade. I hope this helps a little in your decision making process.@@popescugeorge9961

    Ummm... the steering wheel bolt is called for by Porsche as a one-time use. That is likely because of the thread-lock that comes on the bolt being damaged with R&R. At the very least some blue LocTite should be used when it's reinstalled if you decide not to replace it. I don't recall exactly what the bolt costs, but it's not very much in the grand scheme of things Porsche.

    Hi Tommy, I enjoy your videos. I'm getting ready to swap my alcantara wheel for a leather one. I found a wheel out of a 2016 GT4 which is manual. Do you know if the paddle shifters from my 2021 Cayman wheel will be a direct bolt on to the 2016 wheel? I'd appreciate any help or insight you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Ed

      Yes they’ll fit but you’ll have to swap the plastics over too

    Could you advise on the peddle shifters ?? Ik thats yours a manual. But it would be really nice if I could get them working. I have one of those weird tiptronic shifters in the old steering. Could you please advise.

      @@TommyLGarage its literally plug and play. I did it to my cayman s 2007 new paddle shifter working absolutely fine. Just connect the module + make sure when you are buying the steering wheel tell the supplier about which car you are gonna put it in ( i think they put the same module that supports your car but maybe its the same for all Porsches) . I ordered it off alibaba real shaddy shit but the steering quality is pretty good and had no issues going in along with the airbag no air bag light or anything . And i got it for 700$ approx with airbag. Just leaving this comment here so if anyone’s trying to do it might just help them. Anyways thanks bro your video was very helpful.

    looks nice but the new wheel doesn't have the indicators showing what drive mode the car is in, sport and sport+ oh and fyi on the hood you don't need to worry too much about closing it accidentally with the battery disconnected, there is an manual hood release, you have to take out the drivers side front wheel arch plastic and behind is an emergency pull cord to open it just in case the the actuator fails or if the battery goes dead.

    Hey, great video like always, I have also a 981 cayman S and I was thinking to do the same but Porsche told me that I can have a problem with the airbag light, in case. Did you have any of these problems? If yes, how did you resolve it?

    So I removed and reinstalled my steering wheel per your excellent instructions. When I pushed the airbag/horn back into place, I was surprised that it stuck in too far. It’s now sunk into the steering wheel and when I start the car, the horn is stuck on. Any advice? I planned to drive it with the hopes some good bumps would make it pop back out, but the loud horn killed that plan. Lol!

      Yes loosen up the screws that are holding the metal brace to which the airbag snaps in.

    Hey guys, what about availability of high octane fuel 'out in the nowhere' across the US? I want to ship my car over for a coast to coast... are any of the car supply chains carrying Liqui Moly octane booster on their shelves? Unfortunately, one is not allowed to stack the trunk up with anything when importing a car.

      @@TommyLGarage Is that your weird PON rating? That is not high enough for the 981 engine... at least the GTS requires 98 RON per the manual and the S cannot be far off, actually guessing it is the same. The manual says you can run 95 RON, but I like to think that I could hear a slight knock at higher revs, so I started juicing things up with booster in the countryside.
