Notes:
In 2019 I bought a stock Suzuki DR650 in Medellin, Colombia. A month later, I crashed it, broke my hand and knee, and decided to rebuild it, modding it, upgrading it and fixing every flaw the bike had from the factory. The result is this, the Erebus Project DR650, the best in the world that took me 27,000km Solo down South America to the end of the world Ushuaia, Argentina.
In total the DR650 build removed over 20kg of stock weight with the majority coming from the removal of the original electronics systems and the stock exhaust. The exhaust replacement was done by using a titanium muffler from a 2006 ZX1 Ninja. That exhaust required production of a custom mid pipe and welding a mount point. Its not too much louder than stock but improves breathing and you really feel the weight loss when off road.
Wheels and metal parts were powdercoated black but the front forks were coated in plastidip matte black. This means that if you get stone chips you can either top up or easily reapply a new coating.

To clear up the rear suspension on this DR650 is a combination of the Racetech gold valve kit in combo with a heavier spring from prorace.
By far, the most badass DR650 I've ever seen. Great work on that project.
What is the horsepower or engine mods he did?
This is such a beautiful motorcycle. WOW. Amazing! I just wish Suzuki would make a 2 cylinder DR650 with a liquid cooled, 60 horsepower 270 degree paralell twin, with the raspy, mean sound and a heavy flywheel and double counterbalancers, and a 6th gear overdrive. With a parallel twin, tall windshield, and an overdrive gear, a DR650 would be the best all around inexpensive motorcycle.
Super sick! I've been searching for dr650 ideas and you nailed it brother. Gonna sell my drz and get started. Yeeew!
Nice...now lets see paul Allen's DR650 build...
His is white..... subtle off white.
You forgot to add the 790 kit cam and nova gears :) sick bike. The black is epic
Haha def overkill for someone who has multiple bikes.... maybe if it was going to be my only adventure bike though....there comes a price where its just better to grab a husqy.... especially in latam where old dr650s and go for $10,000 since they discontinued them.
That is an excellent build.
Very nice indeed!
Thank you
Epic!!! I’m building one too!!
Nice where you at? They killed the DR over here sadly but id pick up another for sure in the future possible for a supermoto.
Nice build 👍 I love the look !
Love it
Awesome, are the pro kits for more power any good? I just bought a 2024 dr650 it's got plenty of power.
That headlight/fender combo looks amazing
How hard was it to wire the headlight? Does it still have high/low beams with the switch?
Fairly easy to be fair, yes still has high and low. Super bright as well so i ended up not wasing time with aux lights.
lovely build! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you :) More photos of it in the Instagram page in the description. Its had a few different styles.
Did they have to retrue the rims for powder coating? I’d like to get the gold/bronze rims, but the black ones on yours are sharp looking!
I had them fully disassembled and powdercoated and at the same time had the hubs done as well as the spokes galvanized.
@@TrochaNostra wow. They did a great job!
❤❤❤❤💪обожаю 🏍️
✌
Wheels, are they tubeless?
No the are heavy duty tubes, 2 rimlocks rear and one on front
You have excellent aesthetic taste.
Where did you get the paint job?
Your other comment disappeared; I didn't delete it was trying to respond. Risers were brought in from USA, fender from one of the shops across from Mundi motos, paint was one of the paint shops in Barrio San Diego.
@TrochaNostra thank you so much for the quick reply, brother! I appreciate it. God bless you. I have 790 kit waiting to be installed, SS brake lines, seat, bar riser, and done!..
@@roes369 Sick build, think iv only heard of 1 790 here. Mythical beast. The brake lines were from raceline btw there in Guajabal if you take the bike down with the risers on the will measure it and custom make it in a few days.
@TrochaNostra thank you, brother! How can I hit you up for shared rides, etc?
Btw, you know if I could get a proper riser here? Or better bring them from the US?
why a 19" front?
Thats a 21 buddy...😂 1.54 zoom in on the bottom of the tyre 90/90 21
@@TrochaNostra weird, must be the camera angle and color
You have not totally swapped out the gears yet
I switch sprokets 14t and 15t depending on the type of riding, that got me by and with th weight loss the bike was way more responsive in that 14t setup for onroad.
@@TrochaNostra they have an internal gear set with ratios to extend the range of effectiveness for each and every gear to give the bike metaphorical longer legs
@@RitaElaineHeltonBarker-uz4sz Yeh but for me it was redundant. This was used for driving south camera and the 15t is fine for that purpose (although a 16 would have been nicer on the longer highway stretches). When i got to destinations like the Atacama Desert and Patagonia and wanted to do offroad without the luggage I would switch to the 14 for a torque bump. Thing is in Colombia a good stock DR will set you back close to 10K used. Changing the triangle, lighting, weight and suspension was all a necessity a grand on the gearbox and i should have just bought and modded a 701 or 690. Wanted to do the trip on the DR though because its just so f'n legendary. Also mentioned in another comment I have a modded 790 ADVR and a R-NineT. Maybe if I didn't have the alternatives the gearbox would be an ok mod but just so hard to justify when you can switch sprokets and fix the two main issues (putt putt gearing and top end cruising). After i completed the trip i just used it mainly offroad and left the 14 on the majority of the time..... Although this build would have made a great supermoto but I ended up buying the Gasgas 700SM by that point.
@@TrochaNostra I believe I understand you live in an apartment and you're are having to pay cash money for these extra parking spaces that the bikes take up
@@RitaElaineHeltonBarker-uz4sz No not at all.... theres unlimited bike parking :p
Hi friend, I have a DR, I'm from Brazil, how did you fix the panel, I sent a message on Instagram, thank you
Ese velocimetro debe estar mal,la DR ni en sueños da esa velocidad, tengo una y su velocidad sin agacharse es de 155
Prove weight loss! lost interest.
Mate, if you do not get the bike weighed before you sell it, you are a criminal !!! The world need to know how much weight you can get off the DR ...please tell
Unfortunately, it's already sold, but it was a shed load to the point you could feel a huge difference both on and off the road. The suspension needed to account for the weight drop as some of the charts for the suspension kits valving are based on the stock weight plus rider. I reckon a minimum 20kg, but you could go far lighter if you omitted comfort mods and some other stuff. Stock exhaust is disgustingly heavy and that Kawasaki one was extremely light, way more so than the usual titanium mods i have seen people do.
HEIGHTENING links???? Good lord how tall are you? 😂😂😂 Love the bike.
@@Shrouded_reaper Haha thanks, im 6'3. Even if you arent tall enough for the links its well worth doing the triangle adjustments for comfort, dropping the pegs and raising the bars gives a tonne more comfort!
Can you please share the info on the rear fender and what else you did for the break light etc. what you did to the rear of the motorcycle is 👍🏽
Proccyle plastics kit. Comes with the LED. Suspension and other parts in the description :)
