  • This tractor belonged to a gentleman who passed away about 5 years prior and wasn't operated for several years before he passed. It has now been handed down to a younger generation to take care of the family farm. Let's see if we can put this old Ford 4000 back into service.

    I was a 15yr old apprentice in the UK during mid 60's working for Ford when these came out. A good tractor in their time. Just for interest the part number for the oil filter is CFPN6731A, a number imprinted in my head.

      I can understand the numbers you will never forget, I spent almost 20 years in the fire alarm business. there’s a whole catalog of part numbers I will never forget. 4098-9714 “simplex addressable smoke detector head”😊

    No power steering on that tractor. It was an option from the factory, but that one doesn't have it.
    The first 4000 tractors were basically upgraded 801 series that Ford made in the late 50s to early 60s. The 4000 had 4 cylinders until 1965 when Ford redesigned the whole tractor line, and added 3 cylinder gas and diesel models. That 4000 probably didn't have live PTO. They came standard with transmission PTO like the 8Ns, but as an option the 4000 and 5000 tractors had independent PTO, while the 2000 and 3000 had optional Live PTO.

    We had one new in 1969 the pto operated wifhout the clutch you just flick the leaver in or out if it was on it stayed on even if you put the clutch in especially handy driving the square bailer.

      @Yellowdogsworld  Před 10 měsíci

      Yep, I read that somewhere along the way ford made the 4000 with independent PTO, I was hoping this was one of them. It also makes for a safer machine when using a bush hog, if you don’t have an overrun clutch on the drive shaft it will push the tractor when you want to stop as well. If you happen to be along a pond, ditch or steep hillside that can make for a bad day.

    These 4000s were a big seller in Ireland and UK in their day. Powerful 3 cyl.. This 6X model is about 56 HP gross and the later 6Y has 62 HP.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I honestly was surprised at the HP rating compared to its size. Since we got it running again the young man who’s operating it has made a lot of progress with cleaning up the farm it’s on.. it’s a great little machine.

      @@Yellowdogsworld We had the 2 of the later 6Y models with the Fieco cab. One was traded for a 4600, the other now does light yard work around our dairy farm.. Heavy work is carried out by modern New Holland tractors.. A TS115 and a T6080..

      Our 4000 of roughly the same configuration as this (hi-lo with 4 forward and 1 reverse) had fully independent pto. The hand lever was the only control. Foot clutch had only in or out and had no effect on the pto.
