    Christmas has always been a time for ghost stories . Because the period around the Winter Solstice is the darkest time of the year , ir seems to evoke thoughts of dark legends and sinister spirits .

    I'm from Portugal. About KRAMPUS... We do have a very similar tradition, the CARETOS. Ours look way more basic than the Alps ones but mostly they behave the same and have similar meanings. Or disguises are either pretty colourful or all made of wood, with the masks being mostly wood and quite scary. They go out at night on specific occasions, scaring people with their antics. One thing in particular: a Careto is always male, usually younger folks.

    Krampus is an Austrian tradition from South Tyrol. Those cards are an example of the twisted sense of humor that comes from that area. My dad’s side of the family is originally from Tyrol, with our surname originating there in the 1300’s (first recording of the surname). Our sense of humor can get REAL dark, REAL quick. 🤣 Those Krampus cards aren’t a reflection of the many faces of Krampus, they’re just an example of the dark sense of humor from that region. 😉😂

    • @yoginiingermany
      @yoginiingermany Před 8 měsíci +4

      Krampus originates from the Alpine region and Bavaria in general. Not only south Tyrol.
      He’s one of the “Perchten” who were thought to roam the face of the earth with Odin and Frau Hulda in the nights between Christmas and Kings’ Day.

    • @justforfunsies5000
      @justforfunsies5000 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@yoginiingermany Do you know how Krampus ended up in Bavaria? The Alpine people of Tyrol took the legend with them when they migrated into Bavaria in the late 1500’s-early 1600’s. My direct paternal line (the forbearers of my surname) were part of that migration.

    • @justforfunsies5000
      @justforfunsies5000 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@yoginiingermany There’s a little hitch in your explanation. They were called Perchten b/c of Frau Perchta, and it wouldn’t have been called Christmas at the time b/c the legend predates Christianity.

      @@CoolBreezeHeals That isn't a thing. It would be called technologically advanced, if anything. And even if it was a thing, I disagree. We are "technologically advanced" compared to people 1000 years ago, but in 1000 years people will think we are technologically primative. Conversely, I believe that humans are always spiritually primative. Hopefully that will change before another 1000 years go by, but based on what I see happening around the world every day, I doubt it. People stop believing in Santa Claus at some point in their childhood, but will continue to belive in God until the day they die. Makes no sense.

    Krampus is a half man and half bear. The Horned bear or Bear son was a pan european worship. You can still see the ancient costumes in celebrations on Sardinia. Searching google, you will see many cultures and countries using the same outfit. It's said he was a medium between man and animal. The bear was seen to be as a human when it had no hair. It was magical because of its reincarnation powers(hibernation). People believed humans evolved from bears. Beliefs from before the Christian priests took the work away from the 7th sons(or daughters). The people of the time were animists.
    He was said to be a good omen if seen. He showed up to take wayward children below and where they'll end up if they continue their deviance into adulthood.
    Christianity used the angry snarling face of an attacking bear and called it devil or demon.

    Europeans don't wait for Santa, that's just an American Coke-a-Cola ad. In England, we have Father Christmas. Santa is a cheap rip-off, but Father Christmas is far older than Christmas, he's from the original Pagan festive season, Yuletide (Yule-Tide > Christmas-Tide > Christmas). He's actually the Pagan god Woden (AKA Odin - Wotan), who is known to wonder the Earth disguised as an old man. He wears a fur collared robe, holly around his head, a holly staff, carrying a Yule log and a bowl of wassail. Anyone familiar with A Christmas Carol, he's represented as the Ghost of Christmas present. Carols are Pagan too, they are to ward off evil sprits. There's nothing Christian about Christmas, as it was already celebrated in the same way for thousands of years, before Christianity was invented.

    • @RunninUpThatHillh
      @RunninUpThatHillh Před 7 měsíci +1

      That is not correct. That's a shit take one would expect from a mall wiccan. A lot of the “gotcha” statements people make about Christmas having pagan roots doesn’t need to be so scandalous to a religion so already-scandalous as Christianity (we worship a God who chose to be born amongst farm animals and die a slave’s death). I got no problem with acknowledging that I stand on the shoulders of my pagan ancestors as well as my Christian ancestors. From my notes: Christianity "reaches down" and draws up earlier, incomplete Pagan traditions into itself - and through doing that completes them. Isn’t the concept of conversion Christianity’s whole thing? To take something-especially a “bad” thing like the Roman cross-and reclaim it as something God has made holy? Just as God takes the worst of sinners and transforms them into saints, Christianity takes existing traditions and transforms them into something that points to the Jesus story and glorifies God. If you'd like, we can go over the Christmas Tree. It's such a childish statement to call Christianity a copy paste of other things. That's what I said when I was 16 going to buy my first tarot deck. It is not.

      @@RunninUpThatHillh Just because you don't like it, don't mean it's not true. What, you think Jesus was born on the 25th December, in the well known winter lambing season? He had blond hair and blue eyes, just like me, a Germanic Anglo-Saxon? If you knew a small amount of Anglo-Saxon Paganism, you would soon find out, there's very little Christianity didn't copy. You probably think Jesus was resurrected at Easter, too. The clue, that's also not true, the fact is, it's a celebration to honour the Anglo-Saxon Pagan goddess, Ēostre, the goddess of Springtime, rebirth and renewal. When you use the name God, you are referring to the original deity, whose name it was called Goden. God-en, also known as Wōdan, Wōdanaz, Wotan, Odin. Hell, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dead/underworld, which is surprise surprise, also called Hell. Do you get it now? Christianity, isn't very original. Christmas isn't about the birth of a fictitious baby, called Yeshua (Jesus to the unaware), it's about celebrating the rebirth of the sun. That's what burning a Yule Log represents. Candles, bells, greenery, feasting/making merry, gift giving, all have Pagan roots. Deck the Halls, means to decorate your home with greenery, such as holly, ivy, mistletoe, yew etc. Wreaths are hung on the door, as they fend off evil spirits. The idea of giving gifts, has nothing to do with the three wise men, it comes from Father Christmas, AKA as Woden, as I previously mentioned. The fact Christians worship the son of a Jewish deity, known by his real Aramaic name of Allah, should tell you all you need to know, about how ridiculous Christianity really is.

      Christ was not born on December 25, according to the Jewish old Bible /dead scrolls /Priesthood calendar- Christ was born on March 20th in the spring .. Christmas originated from Europe & like this individual says is a pagan holiday where they worship their gods …
