Surviving A Roller Coaster That Tries to KILL You In 1 Minute | Euthanasia Coaster

- Fear has always been associated with roller coasters. Many have developed phobias to coasters because of how intimidating they appear. Despite how tall and fast they go. The odds of you dying on a roller coaster is highly unlikely. Your average amusement or theme park will always have the best safety protocols to keep you intact. However, 10 years ago a so-called engineer made a roller coaster model with the sole purpose of killing the riders. If this was a new roller coaster today, it would stretch taller than kinda ka at Six Flags Great Adventure. Travel faster than formula Rossa and have the highest g force of any attraction. Still, after some research into the ride. I found that if this was indeed built, you can in fact survive. So watch and find out, while also realizing the engineer is kind of a lunatic.

And it was at that moment he knew. He f*cked up
Hell naw, to da naw naw naww!

Fun fact: he's saying again again because he wants it to kill him
No, I think the button at the top of the hill is a great idea. Imagine building up in your head for years that you want to die, and this is how you want to go. But then when you're actually taking that long, long climb up the hill, the physical reality of what you're doing sinks in and you panic. You don't want to do this anymore. You want to live. Imagine now that there's no button, and you spend the rest of that long, long climb screaming to stop the ride. Begging for your life. That's fucking horrifying. Having a last minute chance to opt out after you've climbed the hill is honestly the only ethical way to make this coaster, imo.
I agree. I think that many people would end up changing their mind, and if there was a button, it wouldn’t be too late.

I saw this guy's TED talk and he isn't that weird or crazy. Julijonas Urbonas designs these rides and concepts to give the viewers a genuine experience about them. He does not design these things to have them built, but to provoke thoughts, emotions, and a new way of looking at things. It's very interesting tbh.
Fully agree.
So he's an artist of engineering. Cool

Exactly. I’m afraid of being out of control and not being able to stop the ride if I start to panic. It’s a phobia I’ve had for my whole life.
Urbonas is not an engineer, he is an artist, and his eunenasia coaster is not satirical, but a thought experiment. Just read how he describes it, its a proposed way to end life with 'grace and euphoria' instead of pain and suffering. I think its beautiful.
Inert gas asphyxiation would be much more enjoyable and practical. High G-force doesn't feel particularly good... inert gas asphyxiation literally begins with euphoria and ends with slipping into unconsciousness while euphoric.

Yeah the whole time he was going on about how not credible this guy is I was just shaking my head like "uh yeah he's not really going for that, he's an *artist* "
Totally agreed! The thought experiment is only scary if you'd want to survive. For a terminally ill person, suffering every day towards an inevitable death, it would offer one last incredible adrenalin rush. Especially if they're able to opt out until the drop begins.

Cool concept, but like you said, 60 seconds without oxygen is insufficient to kill most people. Many people have survived much longer than this under far worse conditions. Would I ride it though, and test this out? Hell no.
Me either. Especially if it’s almost a 2,000 foot drop
Well I think it’s harder to survive without oxygen because you are in extreme conditions. Doing 10 loop de loops in a row would panic you out
I was able to hold my breath for a minute once.
It’s not oxygen. It’s the blood rushing to your feet from 10g of force and staying there. That’s what kills you.
@@larrytemen4789 I've done a little research, and people have survived some truly ridiculous g-forces, much higher than ten- but usually they are only subjected to them for a few seconds. Cause of death for these kinds of fatalities seems to involve arteries and veins being strained literally to the breaking point.

For me, any fear of roller coasters doesn’t have to do with the fear that they will break / I will die, rather that I feel like the drop is too big for me to mentally handle
Same. I love when the track banks sideways, and speed is thrilling to me, and I can even enjoy multiple small hills (sometimes called bunny hills). But forget about steep vertical drops. I don't think it's about the height, because I've always liked aerial trams and observation decks in skyscrapers. It's more the feeling of my stomach leaping into my throat, and a fear of passing out or having a heart attack or spinal fracture.
I've never been afraid and I love them, just went on the worlds tallest last weekend in fact (Kingda Ka), however I've always thought it would be an easy fear to conquer since once you're strapped in and it's moving you're committed... you don't think you can "mentally handle" it... but you will, guaranteed. Do that a few times and you should be over it.
@@Chris-xo2rq Nah. I've ridden many roller coasters and still hate them mostly. For me, it's about not being in control. The very thing you describe is what I hate and if you aren't enjoying it, why bother?

You see, the fear of rollercoasters isn’t about dying, it’s the feeling and how sensitive you are to the feeling.
its the only reason i missed the chance to ride kingda ka the pressure of the drop is too overwhelming
I always find the 'safer than driving' claims to be a little silly. The reason is that you spend a hell of a lot of time in a car and almost no time in a roller coaster. If you spent as much time in a rollercoaster than driving I am not so sure it is actually more safe.
This is actually a very interesting point of view. One could totally do some math based on some statistics in order to compare the risk of death between driving a car and riding a roller coaster. But that person would have to keep in mind several things though, so it's not an easy task:
1: It's more dangerous to drive a car in some countries than other countries.
2: It's more dangerous to ride a roller coaster in some countries than other countries.
3: It's more dangerous to ride some types of roller coasters than some other types of roller coasters.
4: If one is drunk or on drugs, the chance of that individual dying while driving a car increases a lot more than if that person rides a roller coaster.
And some other factors as well probably
The thing about cars is, it just need one drunk idiot and you're gone - for a coaster to be fatal it needs a lot more than one human error
Keep in mind that most roller coasters are operating every few minutes (or constantly with multiple trains) for hours a day, seven days a week, for decades. And whenever one actually has an accident, it makes the national news.
Car accidents happen multiple times a day in every large city on Earth. Even if you drive only once a month but ride coasters every day, you're probably STILL at far greater risk in the car than on the ride.
No, even accounting for miles travelled they are MUCH safer than driving. Driving is the most dangerous thing an average person does on a regular basis. (Note: I said "average person", if you have a particularly dangerous profession this may not apply to you).
Even so, hundreds, maybe thousands of people will ride a given coaster at a park, maybe 20 to 30 people at a time, so even if the ride is 20 minutes, that's 40 to 60 minutes of riding time in total, likely as much as, if not more than the average time spent in a car each day. How many times have you heard of a coaster accident vs car accidents? I think that statistically, coasters are far, far safer than driving.

watching this after someone die at Orlando
Fascinating! I love hearing thoughts about stuff like this.
Here's my thoughts coming from an artist. (Note: I'm not familiar with this guy's other works)
The euthanasia coaster is definitely an interesting idea to think about, and I'd consider it a very successful art piece. Setting logic aside, the point of it is to make one think about death, and just by me typing this comment, I'd say it definitely does it's job.
There are so many ways to look at death, most perspectives being about "fear of the unknown". Death is something we don't understand and can't control, and because it's so far out of our control it terrifies us.
Now, roller coasters are the very essence of "being in control" every loop, ever turn, even the seat of the coaster was taken into consideration into making it safe. But the thrill it gives to it's rider is a brief moment of our body feeling out of control. As in sensory overload, gravity shift, being thrown around without a choice...it's almost a glimpse into what it might feel like to face death. But at the same time not really, because the coaster is totally in control and the trust we put into the coaster to keep us safe is what makes it into a pleasant experience. It's a bit like watching a scary movie on TV, it's a controlled illusion of feeling totally out of control.
So with all that being said, the significance of this piece is not so much as "this coaster will kill you", but to think about death differently.
It's a visual argument for letting people be in control of their end and making that choice feeling safe and confident.
Now, with all that being written, I totally chuckled at this video talking about the logic. It's like trying to take figurative speech literally. But it was very interesting! 👍

Imagine wanting to die and you survive it and have to remember the ride. That'd be nuts.
Bro, I'm a minute in & I nearly fainted looking at those things...
Never ever ever EVER!!!
The coaster is meant for people with incurable diseases who want an unpainful death
EDIT: *Kinda* unpainful
He said that at the end
But thats kinda gonna be painful..;-;
i remember this. my mom told me about it
Ah yes, crushed ribs. Very
*unpainful*
@@Wingedlizar i don't think they'll be able to feel that seeing as they'd probably pass out first
judging by his work i'd say i think this is more like an art piece than an actual roller coaster
Judging by his work this man is a monster.... How could you force people to watch interpretive dance?
I hate when people can't respect boundaries and get mad that people would rather be safe 🤗 says a lot about you as a person
The death coaster from nothing but trouble freaked me out as a kid, so this REALLY freaks me out! Loll
Now I know why I feel all my blood go to my feet when I'm on a roller coaster
7:10 he turned purple bro wtf 😭
I never could stomach roller coasters, especially those that did loops.
The 5% of people who survived… 💀💀💀
They should make this as an option for those on death row 😁😁
Gotta say, you're one hell of a narrator. Kept me entertained.
i was looking for the rollercoaster that was the stonks market graph. not this but it's certainly dangerous because they tinker with how it works while it's in operation and sometimes they slow down too much while there are still gaps in the track.
I was not strapped in going on Space Mountain until we were nearly through the door and my dad stopped for help. I absolutely do not trust these rides, their construction, maintenance or workers. They are testing providence. Not worth it.
This guy needs to think about the meaning of the word ‘irrational’. Most fears are of this sort. Stats do nothing to help, because the fear is not rational.
looks like someone is trying to rationalize their irrational fears
Love how the ride is supposed to kill you but instead puts you into a coma 😭
Talking door had me. Who doesn't want that?
Frozen dead Body Planet 😂😂 I like that guy💯 That shit took me out.
