- In this video we remove the front shock absorbers and strut body assembly and replace with new. I got everything in the video from eBay for $189, can’t beat that value.
Great video part 1 & 2 Strut mounts & also struts 😜👍 I'm in the process of doing suspension front & rear on my 2004 VY Calais & a first time suspension change for me ! Thanks so much to all the guys like yourself doing these video's 👏👏 or We beginners would be stuffed i think , I'm 58 & it's never to late to learn & save some coin by working on our cars ! Nice work & it's appreciated 👍 Steve from Bundaberg Qld 🕺🍹🇦🇺
@@stevewilson8752 thanks Steve. I’m stoked the video helped you out. This comment is the exact reason I bother to put these videos together. Thanks again for the comment 👌 would really appreciate if you could subscribe. Cheers
Good stuff, doing my old mans VS tomorrow , you cleared up a couple of things for me. Cheers
@@blankgen8003 awesome! Stoked you got something out of the video 👌 cheers for the comment too
thanks a heap mate great help just trying to help u out with a comment alot of people take help videos for granted but ur doing gods work :) thanks mate
Very helpful and simple to follow.
Stoked you found it helpful. Cheers for the comment 👌
Thanks for the video, doing this job this weekend on my VZ
Glad it helped you out. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated
Yea not a bad deal, I did mine on the VY 4 years ago and still firm.
This set was apparently on sale at 50% off. Still crazy cheap
Good video , hope everyone is having a great day😊
Thanks mate. Glad you got some value from it. Appreciate the comment 👌
Hello any idea from where i can get it for the Holden statesman 2004 wk wl/ chevrolet caprice?
Pls share link if you have any idea for the suspension.
Or do the vz and wk/wl share same suspension? can i use vz on my statesman?
legendary💯
@@williamtopia2135 cheers bro, glad you got something out of it
check the bolts supplied, nuts had rock in them so i used the new bolts with the old nuts with a dab of locktight and old boot covers as ones supplied did,nt fit, other than that all good.going to contact webco to maybe check things before shipment.
The nuts had rock in them? That’s not good. Good on you for having a crack and getting it sorted yourself 👌
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated
Awesome. Im going to give this a go shortly on my CV8Z Monaro. The only thing that is different is tab for mounting the sway bar link pin. Its a horizontal assembly as opposed to the vertical one shown here. Its a bit more of a complex design but essentially it does the same thing. See what happens when I get there. :)
Hey! I’m glad the video has inspired you to give it a crack yourself. The suspension is basically the same as you said, you’ll be fine. I’m fitting a set of 4 into 1 extractors to the vz at the moment, so if you haven’t already, please consider subscribing so you don’t miss it. Appreciate the comment! Good luck! PS wanna swap the cv8z for an SSZ 😂😂😂
@@scottsshots3025 Yep have subscribed. The Monaro has 4-1 pacemakers (1 7/8") into 3" system and very small mufflers on the rear. She's got some grunt amongst other things, ported heads, HD Clutch and tail shaft, Harrop diff cover and 3.9 diff gear with Harrop TruTrack and the obligatory OTR CAI. Im not ready to let her go just yet... maybe in a decade? :) If ever... LOL
Sounds like it would have plenty of grunt and be a fairly quick street combo. Enjoy it!
@@scottsshots3025 got it done. Took a while as it’s a bit different for the Monaro. Nolathane bump stop goes in underneath top plate and the sway link bars have to be removed to be swapped over. If using Nolathane strut mounts like I did, be sure to use their dome washer otherwise it will never fit. Also, the brake callipers and calliper mount bracket has to come off to get the steering knuckle bolts out.
I also discovered I should replace the springs and maybe the top plate but they haven’t completely disintegrated just yet.
Awesome! Yer normally you have to remove brake calliper like you did because of the way the bolt goes through. I’m guessing someone has been into mine before and flipped the bolt around. Great job, saved yourself a heap of money too. 👌
After doing my struts which were rooted amd replaced bump stop, bearing , strut top the top plate has a small gap and some movement,
Is that normal, is bump stop free or positioned.
I have what looks like a couple of mm but top plate is done up tight and strut is held captive
Any idea where i can get my Holden statesman 2004 WK/WL / Chevrolet caprice 2004 suspension?
Will the vz suspension work on the statesman?
Can you please share the link for purchase?
I bought my parts off eBay. The vz commodore suspension may be different to the caprice stuff. Definitely double check before ordering. The item description in the eBay ad should say if parts are suitable for your model
Shocking video.. Thanks
Hahaha nice one. Way to strut your stuff 👌
Thanks for the comment
thanks heaps for the video. I've actually bought the same shocks for my VZ Commodore Ute. What's the size of the hex to hold the strut still when turning the main nut off (15/16)? It seems to be 13/32 from what I can tell and I can't get hold of one anywhere to do my replacement. Using anything larger or smaller doesn't work
From memory it was a 24mm
Did you get any gap between the top retainer plate and tower? I got about 5mm of gap and was wondering if that’s normal
Maybe a couple of mm at most. I’ve heard other people have the same issue as you. Does it drive fine with no clunking? Strut doesn’t move up and down if you have the front jacked up?
@@scottsshots3025 no all perfect
@@steve1714 send it! 🤣 thanks for the comment too steve, Much appreciated
I got the Gabriel ultra hope they’re alright
Gotta be better than the worn out ones you’re replacing. They’ll be sweet 👌
Great video. Thanks. Any chance you could provide the torque settings on the bolts ?
No worries, glad you found it useful. Which bolts do you need the settings for?
With those washes in the strut if one is in the wrong way around does it make noise
If something is loose or worn then yes it could create a noise
@@scottsshots3025 I took it out yesterday and pulled it apart, took the mount off and top plate lifted the strut out and found the shock has lost its seal, it's Only been on my car for about 8 months, 🤦 but I've ordered a new one now
Probably under warranty if you can take it back to where you bought it???
Mate I just brought the same brand webco but mine don't fit and look little different to the old ones . It's been a while since you done this video but can you recall the part number?
I can’t remember the part number but how are yours different, or how don’t they fit?
The where the dust cover slips over struts is cylinder like it does not go into like a cone shape and the dust cover won't go over the top mount plate . The dust cover is going into the top plate not over it giving me no where to zip tie it
did you put the bolts the right way through? I though the heads go to the front and nuts at the back of the strut?
I put them in the same way as the old ones came out. I have seen other people have had the bolts around the other way but then you have to remove the brake calliper bolt to get the strut bolt out because the strut bolt fouls on the calliper bolt when you try to pull it out. Thanks for the comment, appreciate it!
@@scottsshots3025 yeah, I do not know 100% myself which is right or wrong. However , I know my car had never had them done and when I did them last week they came out with the head at the front like you said with having to remove the calliper bolt. So from factory they were that way. Unsure if it matters to be honest.
Yeah I don’t think it will make a difference, the kit I installed had nylock nuts so I’m sure they’ll never come off. I guess you could use a little locktite thread lock if you wanted to
Nice1....I just had mine replaced but now with these bs pot holes...1 side is damaged again....can I buy 1 separately or is it only available as a pair..thnx
That sucks about the pot holes. To be honest I’ve never tried to buy a single strut new, always replaced them as a pair. You could probably buy a single if you shopped around. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. Please consider subscribing and keep up to date with my other project cars. Thanks again
Hey mate ive changed my front suspension on my holden vu ute v6 and done it how u did it on the video and im not sure why but my top mount washer isn't sitting on the body like yours is. Could there be a reason why? Cheers
Hmm that’s a bit weird, Did you put all the washers back together the same way they came out? Rattled the nuts down tight?
How do you know how much bolt / thread to leave protruding from the top?
Just sent it 🤣 rattle it down till it bottoms out.
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated 👌
Good video. Was there a "w" notch on the top strut plate? I've heard that has to be pointed toward the engine bay.
Yep, you’re spot on. There is a small ‘w’ shape indicator. Point it towards engine bay. I forgot to mention it in the video because I didn’t remove the top spring seat rubber. By locating the spring in the recess in the lower spring plate, the top had to line back up.
Great pickup though!

sorry did all the bumstops and that come with the strut or do u have to order all that stuff seprate?
Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. This is exactly why I’ve made these videos, to help others out to have a crack themselves. The bump stops came with the shocks, struts, mounts etc. I ordered them as a whole package.

yer @@scottsshots3025 i subbed looking forward to the new content keep up the good work ;)
How have you found those webco struts, are they any good?
I haven’t done a huge amount of kms since fitting them as the car isn’t a daily driver. But for the few drives I’ve done they’ve been fine. Probably not as good as an expensive set if you wanted to push the vehicle hard through some corners but definitely do the job for day to day duties. Thanks for the comment mate. Much appreciated 👌 if you can, consider subscribing to my channel. Cheers
were the webco struts standard suit lowered, have an vz sv6,just checking, site says suits my car.first time i will be using webco.
I just bought the set that said it suited ss v8 sedan. Should be fine if you select the right model. Only difference would be for v6 or v8
Ps....nice jack stand...I didn't use 1 once and the trolley jack came down...but I'm still here...Tg😩😥☺
I’ve probably done similar silly things when I was younger. I bet you’ll never do that again!
@@scottsshots3025 true...but I think I will just get the mechanic to replace it again.ty
hey bro me again have u done a video on doing a home wheel aliment on vz?
No I haven’t, sorry man
Hey mate I've recently changed my struts over and now I'm getting creaking which I didn't have before. I don't think I tightened the first nut ontop of the bearing while the spring Compressor was on, could that be why?
Hey man 👋 it could be. Check you’ve tightened any other moving parts as well, ball joint, sway bar link pin, tie rod end etc
@Scotts shots cheers mate will jack the car up today and re do everything.
I'm waiting on my mechanic to do mine but it's simple stuff, if he doesn't turn up ima do it myself
Super easy job and only requires basic tools. Give it a go if you’re confident.

Um I have to yet again replace my radial castor bushes, I've had the car for just under 4 years and this will be the 4th time I've changed them, what is going on, vz commodore 07
That is really excessive wear. You should get 5-10 years out of them easy. Are all the rest of the bushes in the front end good? Has the car ever seen damage on that front corner? Also VZ finished in 06, VE came out after that, still in 2006. What model do you have?
@@scottsshots3025 um my vz came out with the VE Ute on 07 wagon executive, in August
@@scottsshots3025 not on the front corner no
@@scottsshots3025 I'm wondering if it has something to do with the lower control arm bushing
Go Nolathane. You’ll never have to do it again :)
I have a vy Holden commodore. My front passenger door will not unlock , the three other doors r fine work well ,this has me baffled how do i get my to open .
Do you mean it just won’t unlock automatically via the central locking when you press the button on the key? If so you might need a new central locking motor/solenoid or just to adjust the rods etc
@@scottsshots3025 yes it wont unlock .
Cant get the door open .
All the other doors will unlock but not the front passenger door .
@@oddball1575 not even if you lift the lock tab?
How ez
Glad the video helped you 👌
I done mine but now there's play in the top mount washer if push the engine down there's movement
Shouldn’t be any play so long as you’ve assembled everything in the right order and tightened everything down.
@@scottsshots3025 my bump stop maybe? goes all the way through is that normal or does it sit firmly on top.
