    Great purchase!
I am still using a Macbook Early 2008 for my daily work, and I am actually writing from it. :) I just love it. Mine is 2.4 GHz model though. To keep it useable over the years, I upgraded the ram to 6 GB, the hard disk to 1 TB, removed the optical drive and put a 120 GB SSD instead, replaced the battery a few times. With OS X 10.6.8 is blazing fast (10.7 is way slower, so I ditched it), actually much faster than more recent models with post-Yosemity OSs. The only problem now is that browsers are not updated any more, so some websites start having problems. Other than that, it's still a fantastic machine.

It shows Apple’s true colors when they deem one of their own creations to be too old for the current macOS but the current version of Windows can be easily installed on it.
It just shows that they plan obsolescence to keep people buying their newest crap when in actuality, they still have a pretty capable machine.

I have a early 2008 MacBook. I would highly suggest installing cloudready. It runs very fast, and it improves the battery. It doesn't need too much storage, and it boots much faster than lion. I had tried getting Windows to run on it, but the CD drive was broken. Cloudready runs much better than a distro like Manjaro.

Installing new ram in my early 2008 Imac was NOT fun.
It took me awhile because I had to first search for a screwdriver to open it and then had to clear out the dust accumulated from the early 2008 Imac being in storage for 3 years & then had trouble getting the ram out until I watched a video on You Tube.
Then I watched another one from OWC and put the new 6 gb of memory in and it works fine.
First time ever for these models.
I hadn't put memory in an Imac since the days of my Imac G3's and Imac DV.

Judging from the power cable jack, I think it's a late 2009 model. My first Macbook was a mid 2009 model, so it's very similar.
Over the years I upgraded the RAM from original 2GB to 4GB, and also replaced the original hard drive with a bigger size one, I was surprised to discover one day that the hard drive broke down, because this Macbook couldn't boot. Also it was the battery problem, the battery would grow fat, I replaced the battery once, and the 2nd one grew fat eventually, so now I have to plug it in.

Great video. This is gonna sound weird but I'm emotionally attached to this video... lol. I had one of these MacBooks (the high end 2007 2.2 GHz C2D model which was my first self-purchased Mac) and I used it until around 2013 or so when it died on me after I used and abused it. I tried to open it up and repair it, but I screwed it up even farther so I gave up on it and trashed it. I wish I could have repaired it, but it was for the better. I didn't have a good laptop again until Xmas almost 2 years ago when I got a 2015 15" Retina MacBook Pro (basically spec'd out and that specific model on purpose because I'm not ready to go 100% USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 yet), but yeah. I remember the pain of not being able to do much with 10.7.x running... Sure there were hack-ish ways to force 10.8+ to install, but at the cost of performance, since each macOS revision gets prettier, and of course it wants more graphical prowess to run it all, but that machine's integrated GPU (mine had the Intel GMA X3100) wasn't up for the task.
Anyway anyway, good video and great videos overall. I like your production value and I've subscribed for future restoration endeavors you might do.

I had problems with my 2009 Mac's original drive/software installing linux. I'd buy a new hard drive, and use a second machine to install Linux on the hard drive. It worked perfectly for me after that.

Install Windows and then Steam and even Minecraft will launch.
Even though I would not expect decent performance out of its integrated GPU so might just stay on Mac OSX and use it to browse the web only lol.

Amazing how user-serviceable friendly these macbooks used to be.
5 years from now all the ButterFail keyboard based Macbook will be dead, if they're not, the swollen battery will finish them off.

You make me want to go dig my POS macbook out of my shed and fix the screen.
Honestly, with what I've learned since the screen broke it actually might not be a terrible laptop if I just put in an SSD, maxed out the ram, and installed the latest mac OS it can support.

You should have tried windows on it. If you convert the dmg to iso and then extract the iso and then run the exe file on the disk for the drivers

Have you tried dosdude1 patch? It might let you be able to install the latest mac os. I have a 2009 MacBook pro that official supported up to el Capitan, but using the dosdude1 installer was able to install the latest mac OSX. Try it out. Hope it helps.

I saw one of these at a thrift shop today for $25. I would’ve got it if it didn’t look like someone smeared orange makeup all over the palmrest, keys, and power button
