    I have E6410 with i7 720QM quad core and 90 watt power supply. Everything works perfect with zero problems. My i7 is turbo boosting to 2.9 ghz on 1 core and works at 933 mhz on idle :) I have video with it. Cheers!

    Great guide, but if you can, use the i7 720Qm/840qm instead!(yes they work on this computer*)
    This guide is excelent in showing how to upgrade, but the truth is that the bump from an i5 540m to an i7 620/640 isent that much. You dont get any core increase or ram increase, only a slight cpu speed increase.
    On the I7 720QM/840qm on the other hand you double both cores and threads, in addition to that this CPU supports 1333 memory, where the 620m only supports 1066.(not sure if the board supports 1333 but cpuz says so). So for those seeking a top upgrade id suggest that. The only downside is that going from the 540/620 35W Cpu to the 720qm/840qm 45w cpu might create some heat issues and also higher battery drain. There are some better aftermarket coolers doh.
    * Some sources claim that the E6410 have 2 GPUS, either intel or Nvidia. And its only the Nvidia that support the quad core cpus. I cannot say for sure, so be sure of that before ordering.
    You get a lot more bang for your buck on an SSD. So always do that before any CPU upgrade!

      Thanks for sharing this! Yeah I did a ssd upgrade before this and I was so sad to figure out the e6410 that have nvidia gpu are the only ones that support higher cpu upgrades, I have intel sadly.

    I was having trouble securing the CPU, so the laptop couldn't start. I didn't notice the lock signs at first, but this vid helped me:) Fortunately I didn't screw up anything. It turned out by securing/tightening the CPU in the socket, you are also contacting all the pins, they are not contacted to the socket unlocked.

TRIED floss, sewing thread, & FINALLY ended up using a single edge 39748 (100PK) Harbor Freight razor blade which lined up the bent pin with the STRAIGHT PINS .... wouldn't be that bad if I had all the proper tools to hold the CPU, magnify it, & then lite it.......but HEY, for $14 off of ebay for a CPU & how often I do this? GOOD ENOUGH!!!!.....I didn't care (though I did, pin came PRE-BENT, 1st thing I checked B4 installing it)......it worked....IF I REMEMBER i'll update this vid 2C if it's worth the hassle. Unless it shuts down or causes errors from over heating or other issues...for $14 probably can't hurt...though it still might & I still don't care.

    Came back to this video to share a few experiences I've had with my e6410... I've done a WAD of research regarding the best CPU. And yes, the XM chips are rapid - however, when it's a numbers game, for the cost and performance levels... The i5-580m is almost untouchable.
    This thing is a monster, even compared to many of the i7 quads.
    My next test, is to get a board with a GPU (the Nvidia chip I think) and see how that goes. My thought is that a GPU will help as there will be load sharing between the native graphics on the 580m and the Nvidia GPU.
    There's also more of a chance of the graphics drivers allowing us to run windows 10 without having to run it via an external monitor (which isn't optimal for a laptop TBH).
    Oh, for clarity - I have a few spare compatible CPU around, I intend to test with a lower grade i5 460m. So if it does go to toast, the 580m will be spared.

      Interesting. I got this model of laptop from my brother yeeears ago as my first pc ever, and now it's just been laying there in a drawer collecting dust over the years. I recently whipped it out as I remembered that it had a windows 7 key that I could use for my windows 11 desktop PC. The laptop right now runs as slow as it possibly could be so I thought that I could maybe upgrade it abit to maybe fit modern standards.
      So I guess since you have this type of information it doesn't hurt if I ask if you could recommend me the best and budgetfriendly stuff to get for the laptop so it functions in todays standards (Within reasons obv, not for 4k gaming 144fps lol" I normally don't deal with laptops as I specialize on desktop hardware and such, so my knowledge goes absolutely dry for the laptop world.

    • @Arrivy
      @Arrivy  Před rokem +2

      The biggest budget friendly upgrade you can possibly do is if you haven’t already put an ssd in as the main drive and put windows on that ssd to do that. As you probably know you will see faster load up times and faster user experience with just that. The bigger battery was an amazing upgrade if you wanted just a little more juice for it to last longer on battery power. If you’re trying to stay real budget friendly and want to upgrade to an i7 wait to find a deal like I did on the processor. I only paid $25 for the i7. Keep in mind that i7 cpu i Believe came in the same laptop just depended on the configuration you got so it’s still older technology but gives a little performance boost from what the i5 was. First place I always start is upgrading to ssd. That’s where I always see the hugest performance boost

      Great question! So these laptops actually also came with this processor already installed into them and some did not. So to answer the question of does it get hotter, yes! but not much hotter than the i5 that was in there before. This processor only adds a little more juice into it but other than that the specs of the two processors are identical. For my laptop, I have had no issues with this laptop overheating and turning off what so ever. Definitely, if you can find the processor as I did for cheap would recommend this upgrade.

    • @Arrivy
      @Arrivy  Před 5 lety +1

      I would say yes you can! Just check the motherboard and see if yours has the ability to take the CPU out of the socket. You can tell if it has that little black twisting lock that holds it in place like mine in the video. If you have that then yes you can swap out the CPU to either an i5 520m or just go to an i7 which I would do an i7-620m or i7-640m. I have seen people go with others that are more powerful but it heats the laptop up wayy more than it's supposed to, personally would just stick with those two. I put the i7-620m and its working perfect! if you haven't upgraded to an SSD yet on your laptop that should be the next thing, an SSD really speeds it up. You have the good motherboard as well having the NVS3100m GPU that motherboard is my personal favorite but it's mostly because I prefer Nvidia GPUs though. Hope this helps!

      Its the same its just some have the CPU soldered onto the motherboard and don't have the black thing that lock's the processor into the socket of the motherboard. That is why I want you to check to see if you have that black circle thing that locks the processor in. It's confusing to explain too about motherboards for this laptop because the motherboard you have has Nvidia Graphics where mine does not it has intel graphics. It does not matter if you have the NVS or Intel Graphics it just matters if yours, which Im pretty sure it does, has that lock for the processor.

      Unfortunately with the graphics card you can’t change those out in a laptop but it is possible to buy an external gpu socket and some how hook it up and use a desktop graphics card. I’ve never don’t this and don’t much about that. As far as gaming on this laptop I’ve always struggled getting 60fps as you really do need a better graphics card for gaming. But if you’re just doing regular computer stuff like browsing or using it for school or work and just want a little more performance this is definitely a good option. Since you have an i3 i think you would see a much more performance boost both with some of the games like Roblox and world of tanks is what I played on my laptop. And it was fine. Of course! I try to get back to everyone that I see who comments as quickly as I can, sometimes I don’t see comments though cause CZcams for some reason doesn’t give me comments for everyone. Processor upgrades will always give more performance to your computers though providing that it is a compatible chip to the motherboard and is newer then the one that was originally installed. Laptops are kinda hard cause most you can’t upgrade that much in and if you can like the e6410 ones they don’t have much options that are reliable enough to stay operating correctly. If possible if you do upgrade try to stay around the same cpu wattage as the one before unless your able to upgrade the cooling on them cause the extra heat isn’t good. That’s why on desktops it’s easier cause they support water cooling mods.

"G" gives you 56 Mbits/second, while "N" goes to 150 Mbits/second, (or double that) and "AC" goes to 600 (or double that) Mbits/second. Your cable-modem probably is G/N/AC, so your upgraded computer needs to keep up. P.S.
