You definitely need significant money if you desire amenities. Please be mindful that many Airbnb properties require you to pay for the electricity that is used during your visit. I stayed in West Bay and West End. The Airbnb on Westend required this payment. The Beach House Hotel was expensive however, electricity was included. You are very correct regarding tips. Everywhere I visited the guides were exceptional however, due to the employees lower wages I felt compelled to tip so having US dollars in small bills is crucial.
You are correct to budget wisely because Roatan can easily blow the bank. Good information. The people are absolutely lovely so supporting the local economy was positive.

Very well done! But what are the nuts and bolts of how to move money form USA to something usable in Honduras? Will my Visa card work, Do I open a bank account in Honduras? Do I carry a lot of US cash. What is the safest method of managing money? How can I avoid large exchange fees. Plus, how do I insure my cell phone service and internet service will not be a problem?

Bring small bills, 10, 5, ones. Exchange a few Lempiras. Your credit cards work everywhere on the island you don't need to open a bank account. It quite safe, use your common sense. Like Byron said, cash is king. Get small bills to leave tips, the workers pay is low, so it helps them a lot.

What's the ATM fee at Petrosun in West End? Not MY bank fee, but is there an extra fee for using their ATM?
