    I'm always drawn to anything vintage. In the world of audio, the analog gear used in the 80's and 90's is highly sought after and is what most plugin developers are trying to recreate. When you have less to work with, It reduces the variables and makes you more creative

    It's a vibe and it's fun to use. Digital won't be the same as analog, for example there is no plugin for a video software that will do exact look as the real videocamera, that's why many content creators are still using them, and I believe this happens also with film cameras. You found a reason to use them and no one shall disturb you with that. Please keep on going.

    Jean, I am thinking of going the same way -- medium format/film. I was a photographer/journalist (not a photo-journalist, but a journalist who took my own pictures as well). Anyway, I used digital and I found that I had a sense of the best "capture" and that "sensed" picture was always the best. All the rest were backups or pics that were secondary and would not be the front page pic. I also found that editors did not always see what I saw and would pick a secondary picture because they thought the "composition was better" even though it did not tell the story at all.
    They were not artists or storytellers. They were technicians and people who had learned a few "rules of photography."
    I've done a lot of writing in different genres and, especially in the case of poetry, there is a philosophy that limitation/restriction improves the art. I agree. If you have only 10 shots, those shots will be the best poetry you can write.
    What I love is "captured portraiture." I don't want to pose people. I want to capture them in the moment at the moment when all the stars seem to align. I seem to be lucky at that.
    I've wanted a medium format camera from the moment I heard of them. I'm currently selling my digitals and just keeping my Nikkormat while saving up for a medium format.

      Huh, yes. I`ve been there. Also met a lot of people who know nothing about photography yet decide which picture to use.
      Good for you! I really hope that medium format will bring you a lot of good things!
      Good luck :)

    I have the same experience with film. Shooting with film makes focus, slow down, work within contraints. Shooting digital gives me fast feedback, lowers the cost of experimentation. Try to use the best of both world. It's healthy.

    I enjoyed another channel covering their photo assignment, but at the end of 2 days in 7 cafes they had 2500 images to cull down to 100 to send to the commissioning editor.
    Thanks but nah, I’ll be happy to just run thru half a dozen rolls and learn from each shot

    I know you had mentioned its not about quality, but there's just something about the way that film pictures (and movies as well) look. Not to say that digital photos look bad. I love the physicality and minimalism of it.

      Interesting. I own a V600 too and replaced it recently with a V850 pro but the latest cannot get sharp scans. I tried to stick the film with tape directly against the glass, tried all the dedicated film holders but it’s very complicated to get sharp scans vs the V600

    How difficult is it to develop film, both color and b&w?

    • @arnieslab
      @arnieslab Před 2 měsíci

      B&W is pretty easy. Color is a little harder because you have to keep a close eye on the temperatures of your chemicals. But they’re both a lot of fun to do.

    • @JeanBlackk
      @JeanBlackk  Před měsícem

    Actually, Aİ changed the photography a lot. Now, it is not easy to find authentic work of photo. Aİ and photoshop is killing the spirit of the photography. A guy puts completely a different photo of another to replace the original background for example. Or extends the image and Aİ tries to put the best object or natural elements to the photo. People who have no understanding of art and photo suddenly comes up as artists on the social media. I appreciate the authentic works for this reason.

    • @JeanBlackk
