I honestly wasn't expecting PSP to run very well.

It's amazing what can actually run on one of these tiny computers. It took a while for me to get a working build of a PS1 emulator on the Pi3 when I started using it. I went with using Raspbian and while it was fine for general computer use, none of the emulators would work out of the box. Had to build it myself and tune almost endlessly, and then I still had to edit the input code because it didn't even recognize my joysticks on my cheapo $20 gamepad. Although, it was worth it to play Doom and Spyro with a modern controller scheme.
This is amazing! I was here to see how would a GBA game would perform, but after seeing its capable to do all this I have no more concerns!

Best operating system for the pi zero 2. 512mb is not a limiting factor for almost everything retropie does, even Kodi is ok
I agree. Bluetooth is such a pain some times.
1:26 Not initially true from experience. Some SNES games like Star Fox and Super Mario World 2 didn't run all that great on the W1 (even with the Retroflag GPI case with its low res screen) So I expect they run a lot better now.
I miss the good ol days when you could actually buy these things!

Cool video man :) have the ps1 version of thps2 working decent with an original pi zero... its my favorite ps1 game :) but having played every single version bajillions of time for decades I can say without a doubt the DC is the best one. The pc version (released before the dc version) has lower poly models and lower rez textures. The og xbox version (rebuilt from scratch) although featuring new areas didn't have as well feeling control as the dc, and the lighting textures and models just look better on dc.

I'm really looking forward to it as my android phone don't have mhl support and I want to use it on my TV.
Runs extremely well on a Pi4, although mid to high range smartphones are better still at emulation.
This is probably the best price/performance ratio you can get if you just want an emulator. The 2W is awesome :)
The USB hub, does it work out of the box with just one cable to the Zero 2 or do you change something? Have you tried with the older Zero "1" W?
It works without any configuration. I haven’t tried older zeros

Lee. I’m having a mare trying to get retropie audio to work properly. Pi 3 B+ decent sd card, good power supply, hdmi to a tv. tried different roms but the sound just constantly stutters. Always seems to work so well when you do it, am I missing something?
Try a premade Pi 3 image from arcade punks. See if you get the same issue.
Overclocking and lowering the screen resolution should help. I don’t have any Pi 3’s

Fine. You can keep track of the CPU load / RAM load / I/O stats by SSH using another device / computer and using 'htop' like tools when playing the games. For next videos on games, could you always show the FPS in overlay? it would also be good to compare the performance of different video drivers..

Dude you need to try ion fury that's a great game on retropie I've got it on my pi 4 and it's awesome but I think you need a early version of the ROM and the steam ones too new I know because I tried it ages ago and had to track down an older version

EmulationStation is the official graphical frontend of the RetroPie project. EmulationStation is not an emulator, rather it is a polished game launcher that includes: Controller and keyboard support.

@@StriderBaron not another stick, when you launch a game press a button on the controller. It should take you to another menu where you can choose an alternative emulator to run the game. Mame 2000, mame 2003 etc.

I was just having a little revelation watching you play all of those really similar 1st person sh00ters . Resident Evil more or less took all those classic games and adapted a narrative allowing the successful series of games & movies. If they had to to explain how any of these game plots happened, the villainous Umbrella Corp makes sense for any of them. Even Doom the movie has that same vibe. I will say out of any game I've ever played , especially as a kid Resident Evil was probably the scariest game ever. Clever jump scares and not knowing what was around the next corner was enough to have you on the edge of your chair. Plus great cut scenes. Duke Nukem's nuclear symbols even resemble the Umbrella logo with the white and red. ... I wonder how much inspiration was drawn from these classic games. To everyone , what was your favorite Resident Evil film and why ?
I remember the first time a dog jumped through the window in resident evil on the PlayStation 1. The whole room jumped with me.

on the raspberry pi 4 when i use a 4k screen it runs at 4k even if i want to use it at 1080p on raspberry pi os bulleye it says to reboot i do and it's STILL 4k i think it's a bug with raspberry pi bulleye
Adding this line to config.txt will select 1080 resolution.
It’s strange as my Pi Zero defaults to 1080 on my 4K TV. My Pi 4 defaults to 4k

Its interesting that GTA Vice City Stories can run smoothly even on a first gen PSP which only has 32mb of ram. Why do you think that is? Could it come down to the lighter version of the game that its running? Could it be because of the screen resolution? After all the PSP 1000 is using a modest 480x272 display. Maybe its an emulator issue or a combination of all of these factors.
I doubt that its a Pi Zero 2W limitation because on paper it should outperform even the most powerful versions of PSP by a landslide.
Emulation is very different to running on a native console with games written specifically for that device
it comes down to the optimization for that specific console. that is also the reason sub-par consoles like xbox and playstation, can keep up with cutting edge tripple-A games.
@@leepspvideo I have PSP games running decent on the older PS-Phone (Xperia Play) with only frameskip of 2 (no buffered rendering). The memory is not the limitation here. It is really the graphics side. Looking at PSPi being able to also run RetroPie on his board, it is a matter of configuration.
I also run it on my raspberry zero 2 w, it works flawlessly except with Atari games and it's hard to configure each xbox controller. Can you make a video about overclocking and etc... on the Retropie? Thanks.

How do you set up the 2 w? I’ve got 2 of them abs tried the zero retro pie image and the pi2/3 image and neither one the WiFi works on, and I can’t get retropie to recognize or mount my fat32 usb drive with my roms on it
Also, when I go into rasp-config from the emulation station menu (the gui menus) it will not let me select any options. I can highlight them and “select” them, but it will not let me select finish (using controllers for now and the action button works for selecting everything else but this menu)

I can't get RetroPie to be stable on my Pi Zw2, Pi2/3 image just kernal panics and shows the 'make sure it's running the correct version. Can you show how and which image you used?

My Pi Zero 2 W wouldn't run any N64 games very well at all under Retropie. Mario Kart 64, Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing and of course Goldeneye just weren't playable. In Recalbox with the Rice core, most N64 games are playable with occasional, non game-breaking glitches. 007 Goldeneye even runs although the framerate varies hugely. Of course I should mention that I'm overclocked to 1300 mhz. I'm not sure what core Retrope defaults to for Dreamcast but the only game I could get to run at all was F355 challenge, and that wasn't at playable framerate.
For n64, just before the game runs, open the settings menu by pressing any button, then enter the option where you choose which emulator version, select the one where its something like lr-n64, you should then get significantly better performance on n64 games, at a cost of some minor visual changes.

Why are you running a 32bit OS? The Raspberry Pi Zero 2W is a quad A53 system. That's a 64 bit core, essentially it's a 3b+ running at 70% speed with half the memory...
