Got a couple yesterday after seeing this and they were pretty good. One of the downsides of microwaving a pie is the soggy pastry but these kept their crustiness very well, Would definitely buy again.
Pukka pies were the go to pies for my dad's fish and chip shop from way back. For a pie they weren't as cheap as some other chippies, but the customers loved them despite the price difference. And as my dad used to say, " if the customers are willing to pay a bit extra? They must be good ". I haven't seen these microwave ones in any of my local shops yet, but when I do, I will give them a go. We have a really good pie shop here in Brighton and one of their most popular pies is a baked bean pie. I thought it a bit odd for a pie at first, but they are really delish. Maybe you can find somewhere that sells them and do a review?. Keep up with your GREAT reviews Gareth. I love the fact you review meals for people living on a budget, after all, not everyone can afford £6 for two Aberdeen Angus beefburgers.
We bought these pies by mistake not realising they were micro pies and we give them a go and they are lovely been buying them ever since and we have never had a bad one. Glad you liked them too.
Great review on one of my go to items. I do night shifts and we have one of those crappy ‘Mini ovens’ that take forever to cook anything and a microwave. These are perfect for 1am hot meals with a tin of mushy peas and thick gravy.
Hi Gareth a great review 😊I often wondered what they were like as i really enjoy Pukka Pie's and that's made my mind up so thanks for that, there new beef pasty is on another level there so good, 🍻🙏
We don’t have Pukka Pies here in South Australia but have Balfours and many independent bakers. We are lucky enough to have delicious pies everywhere we go.
Ha ha ha ! Everytime I have Microwaved any Pie it has always exploded or gone as flat as a Pancake 😂 Just wondering if the Think Tanks have finally Cracked It ????? Great to see a Pie actually filled to the Top with filling. No complaints there. These look good. Chicken and Mushroom have always been my Favourite type. Great review, Gareth. Once again, thank you 👍😉👏
If I had room in my freezer I’d get some. Pukka are my go to for a pie and have never disappointed and I can recommend their beef pastry which is on par with a Ginsters. Hopefully someone from Fray Bentos watches this clip and realises what a filling is and changes their recipe??😉 Thanks for sharing Gaz👌🏻
That’s true Mike, I’ve had a couple of proper Cornish pasties when on holiday in Cornwall some time ago and they were absolutely delicious. I live in Essex so I’m stuck with the supermarket offerings 🙁
Another great video G! Could you please try food from a spar shop hot counter? My work colleague swears their steak bakes are the absolute best so I’d love to see if you agree!
Keep an eye out in Tesco mate as they quite often do these on special at £2.50. They are really nice. They used to do a chicken one as well but not seen that in ages. If you do see them then pick them up mate as they are just as good. Keep up the good work. Nearly 60k.
I never think straight when I have my haircut too. Must be the clippers gnawing into what's left of me brain 🤣 I'll defo be getting some of those bad boys. Love me a Pukka Pie! Thanks for the review. All the best buddy 👍
2 crispy tasty pies microwaved in 6.5 minutes. A fantastic energy saver. Our favourites are the Steak and also, although not a vegan, the Vegan one! Gorgeous.
Farmfoods have stocked them for a good few years. I remember having the chicken one. I found the pastry very stodgy and greasy. However, the filling was delicious
Once again the way you shovel it down your gob you can tell it's a good un. I really enjoy your reviews. Sure you're not a Yorkshireman? As we speak are minds tell it like it is in plain simple language. Keep up the great work. PS one thing I do miss about the UK is a good pie. Colin on Gran Canaria.
Well, that’s a Fray Bentos challenger! For the money I’m dead impressed, and ridiculously convenient too, cheers for that mate, I’ll look out for those, will give em a go for sure.
I’ve just watched the old vs new Fray Bentos pie video. I do like a Bentos, with extra meat in even better. But I’d go for these, better value & don’t have to have the oven on for half hour either. 👍🏻
A Fray Bentos flakey bake tin pie is night and day completely different to this style of pie. Now the Pukka appears superior, but it's not going to last in the back of your grandmas cupboard for 20 years and be consumed when a nuclear strike mostly wipes us all out.
Good review, as usual. I had to laugh when you said you had a haircut! I’m as bald as you are, so we could both have our haircut done over the phone! lol
They have these in my local food warehouse but I've always walked passed as I thought they would probably be soggy and not very nice, I'll have to try some for my tea tomorrow 👍
Simple Simon met the pie man going to the fair...... you know the rest but I do like a pukka pie and I can see that won't disappoint. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
They always serve either Pukka or Peters Pies at my local chippy - they have always been great fodder - a nice quality hot pie is as good as a culinary 'cuddle' on a cold winter's day. Frankly at £1.50 per pie IF they are up to scratch the price is well worth paying. Well filled and the seem to have finally solved the tin foil problem and replaced with a microwavable alternative. Lovely!
The pies Look brilliant for the money I've tried the hollands meat and potato pie microwaved and it was total stodge they were talking on television tonight about microwave cooking being the cheapest cheers Daz👍
Not tried these microwaved yet - only oven Baked - which are great. Hollands ones microwave OK! Morrisons market street meat and potato are the perfect old fashioned pie! [being from Lancashire I like a pie]
Damn! I have completely overlooked the date this year, and have a mega beef stew planned for tomorrow. Will stock up on half priced haggis on Thursday.
I used to enjoy Hollands Cheese and Onion pie from the chippy when I lived in Lancashire. Moved to Yorkshire where it’s all Pukka. Used to live in the Midlands which was proper Pukka land, but preferred Hollands over Pukka.
De-lish happiness. Love the new image with the haircut, really steps the channel up a notch. What did you do with the bag of frozen mixed vegetables that obviously came with the pies? Sneaky.

Hi Gareth believe it or not I have never had a Pukka pie in my life! years ago our chippie did pies, I'm not sure what brand they were but they were reheated in a microwave. They seemed to have a communal plate that they would flip the pie on top down and take the foil bottom off, then nuke it for whatever time it took then pop the foil container back over and flip it the right way up. This plate seemed to be used for reheating all sorts of stuff, I dread to thing what 'elf n safety' would say these days! Apart from the local butchers pies which were superb, my other favourites were Pork Farms and Asda's own brand pies, they really did some great stuff back in the day. Cheers. ps who ate all the pies? me I think haha

There is a farm shop near me that sells homemade pies and pastries. Expensive, but you get what you pay for, better than any high street stuff. Ham and leek, steak and ale, chicken and bacon if i remember right. Dont pop out there often as it is expensive. At xmas tie they also do home made mince pies, again, best ive had and they sell out really quick.
