If you're new to Malaysian Food, a classic Malaysian street food you must try is the Roti Canai, made by Malaysian Indians, also known as Mamak food. Mamak simply means Malaysian Muslim Indian, and their food is what keeps me coming back to Malaysia to eat! There are also many Mamak stall restaurants that serve many other Indian influenced food throughout Malaysia.
This stall is famous for it's Roti Canai, which is an Indian influenced flatbread that is found throughout Malaysia! The one here on transfer road is very famous in Penang, known for it's curry. The Roti Canai bread combined with their mutton curry, chicken curry, and beef curry, which are all spicy and very tasty. If you come to Penang, you have to try out this awesome street food!
I'm so addicted to Malaysian cuisine! In my opinion, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Malacca (Melaka) are the best places to sample Malaysian food. Kuala Lumpur street food is awesome, so is Penang street food, and Melaka Street Food is also out of this world! You can't go wrong! But out of these three destinations, my favourite overall is Penang, because cuisine in Penang somehow just has that upper edge, perhaps because my favourite foods in the world are Indian and Chinese, and Penang just has the perfect culinary culture to accommodate excellent cuisine within those two categories! You can find amazing Chinese food and Indian food in Penang, so you will never be disappointed if those are your favourite foods like me!

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

I ate here last year. I arrived in Penang after midnight and awoke to this place accross the street from my room off Jalan Transfer. What a great meal. Roti canai and te tarek. Breakfast of champions.

People might wonder the cleanliness of eating street foods in Malaysia 😂 Don't worry, in Malaysia most of the stalls are clean, if not don't you think the locals and the foreigners (it's a hotspot) would have filed a complain? If you are not confident, then you can find a 'restaurant' which I supposed will serve the same satisfaction of eating Malaysian foods. But again, tak Malaysia lah kalau tak makan gerai!
PS: A few months more to 'suffer' in America before eating Malaysian foods!

Dang your videos are getting more professional yet maintaining the natural style, your own originality. You're cut out for this. You make it look so natural as it is anyway. Uhmm, unlike mark wiens who makes spastic constipated faces after each bite. The food looks good too! YOU made it look good.

+The Food Ranger | Trevor James when I went back last year I tried Jalan Siam char koay teow, which we waited for over 30-45 minutes at the opposite coffee shop. It was good! However I think it's more on the oily side and slightly "heavy" as lard is used I believe. But overall taste is how a Char Koay Teow should be and worth a try. You may have different opinion. I haven't lived in Malaysia for quite a while so might not be the best person to recommend. Currently on HK. Let me know when you head over here!

  • @christophertuszynski9532

Hey Trevor, I would like to start by saying I am a huge fan. "Mutton" is traditionally thought of as the meat from an adult sheep. "Lamb" is the meat from a baby sheep (also called a lamb). However, in the Indian Subcontinent, mutton is universally thought of as goat meat. What did the mutton sambal taste like in this episode? Are these vendors serving lamb, mutton or goat? Great show! Keep it up!

Since you are having"breakfast", as well as Te Tarek be sure to try some Kopi.
I'm a stuck-up coffee roaster, but I admit to having a soft spot for Kopi Beng, in a bag!
    Try some.

Hey Trevor, now that you are in Malaysia just before Chinese New Year, check out the CNY goodies! Eat some "Love Letters", CNY sticky rice cake, Puffy rice crackers, Coconut cookies, Pineapple tarts, Raw Fish salad ie Yee Sang. Check out the Lion Dancing too! If you get to eat in Chinese Restaurants, they would have special dishes to usher in the Chinese New Year. Enjoy!

Looks fantastic. This looks like a influence of South Indian cuisine. They use more of maida (similar to cake flour)... If you look at cuisines from other parts of India they use more of real/ proper wheat flour for rotis, paranthas etc.
