      They have to be. Also, as someone who has been a handler a few times, the more you can synchronize with your horse, the better.. and that is a *lot* of work, because Friesians can really *move*.. ❤️❤️❤️

      @DarkXmiss I love them because they are friendly and cool horses. Easy to handle and not as nervous as other breeds. I had a bad fall from a horse as a teenager, and I am always a bit scared now when I sit on a horse. We have some Friesians in our village, and I feel super safe on them 🙂

      @DarkXmiss my favorites used to be Morgans, before I fell for a dun gelding... I have no idea what breed he was; I cared for him several summers in my early to mid teens but I loved him for many years after that.

    What a pleasure to watch these stunning stallions. Difficult choice to make for sure. I did have a couple of favorites. I also noticed each handler's showmanship during the individual showing of each horse. Some were much better with their horses. Also, some did all they could to keep up with the horses. To be sure, handling each of these swiftly moving stallions is difficult at best. I also think that much of the breaking out of the trot was more the handler's fault than the horse - it's all about keeping up with the horse and how the head was being held. I thoroughly enjoyed these showings. Tough decision to be sure. Thanks for letting us see a good bit of the class.

  • @MicheleLHarvey
    @MicheleLHarvey Před 4 lety +2

    Such magnificence and manners!
    One thing I've noticed (and perhaps it's only me,) is the forward motion and 'floatiness' or spring in a Friesian's gait causes a gorgeous head tilt (from ears down to muzzle) from side to side, as if the horse is tapping out the rhythm of its hoofbeat with its head. Not all friesians have it but when they do, for me that adds to their extraordinary beauty of movement.

    @kateb5233 Před 4 lety +46

    They seem to float, effortless. These stallions seem so well tempered, that must be the result of handling.
    Does a stallions manners/personality ever factor into the decision made by a breeder? Are they all as well tempered as they appear?

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 Před 4 lety +31

      Kate B
      Actually, yes! Potential breeding stallions only get approved, if they have ‚good stable manners‘ generally and behave themselves around mares and so on. They also need to show willingness to work and learn and so on. Being judged on that is part of the (very demanding) selection process for studbook stallions.
      But it probably also helps, that these people are absolute pros in handling them, of course.

    Thankyou so much for posting this event. How lovely to see these horses, how else could I have ever seen something like this.... This the goodness of CZcams:). Very tricky to judge all these Black Beauties. What do you call the men in white who run with the stallions? In my head I just call the the 'white runners' but they must have a proper name. I have watched a number of horse shows like this and the way the 'white runners' handle the horse seems to make a BIG difference. I watched one from Dubai, judging pure bred Arabs and the white runners were very rough. Of cours there is a massive problem with over breeding Arabs now, they want the 'dish face' to be very pronounced and that is leading to dental problems. But I digress, the Fresian stallions were magnificent, maybe, maybe, one day....... Jonah Rein:).

    Are the characteristics more hereditary or from training-such as the way they trot with legs stretched out far, placed under the horse just right, or how they arch the neck?

    So, can we expect some Epke foals then? 😄😉
    That was very interesting, thank you! They’re all so gorgeous, it really takes someone, to point out the little differences, to see them as an amateur.

      Rara Avis, we think alike...While watching I wondered which of these beautiful stallions would sire foals for us to watch in 2021! Also wondering how they match the qualities of the stallions to the mares.

      Klake is sired by Epke 👍🏼
      I try to explain the choices we make when breeding. But I have to think how I can make a video of that 🤔

    Wonderful explanation thank you 😊. I have a suggestion for the handlers, they have a shoe out for humans called Kanga shoes, would help a lot during the trot session. People not get as tired

    This reminds me of a Sieger Dog show. Every aspect of the dog is judged against the standard. The judge actually comments on each area as he/she examines the dog.
    Then the dogs are gaited around a large ring. The less quality dogs are removed first. And the last dog gaiting is the best.
    Usually done with German Shepherd Dogs, Rottweilers and Dobermans.

    Thank you for this video. I am very interested in this and I was like what am I looking at, lol. It’s hard to judge in a videos on the finer points, unless you work a lot with horses. My eye isn’t as trained as most people here. I find your horses (with the exception of Johnny😉 to be pretty calm. Is that the breed or is it how your training them?
