I'm so glad Seth has always celebrated this show's writers and staff. It's awesome that regular watchers can guess who wrote which joke!
Sometimes I just high five the air, knowing that someone else is air-fiving me back out there!
Hardly anybody even hears about or knows the names of the writers on other shows.
He must celebrate them because he, himself, is so terribly unfunny.
@@VanSwyke-tf5rc Why are you here then?
@@VanSwyke-tf5rc👈 Putin's little cocksocker troll with the 3 month old CZcams account 😂 don't feed the Russki trolls 🤣
The way Seth has always acknowledged his writers is just another reason he has become my favorite throughout the years. You can just tell how genuinely fun it must be working there.
The 1942 USDA film, *Hemp for Victory,* is video proof at an official US Federal government website that the government and all corporate mass media have lied to the public for our entire lives.
But since no one on television has the courage to talk about it, Americans gleefully trudge on in ignorance, day after day, for generations.
Abso-fucking-lutely!!!
Didnt he start with SNL as a writer? I could be wrong but he likely knows the struggle better than most! Seth is awesome.
@@CARPExNOCTURNUM He was a cast member first, I believe, but eventually became one of the head writers.
I am one of the 6 claps at the "throwing a pate" joke. It genuinely made me laugh out loud, and I'm more of a slight smile. Love this segment so much!
As a Canadian, the maple milk joke was actually pretty good. Made me laugh.
That one got me too!! But Seth making fun of the writers gets me going so much, that at that point almost anything can make me laugh 🤣😭
The celery one too was good, because it was actually a truck of celery that spilt over.
Me too, but I can't stop thinking... what happened to adding a drop of maple syrup to the milk?? Americans are weird
As a Canadian, that maple syrup joke was hilarious! Side note: true as well 😂
Oh.... Canadians
“He never had a shot”. 🤣😂😂🤣
Welcome back writers ❤
Really liked that one too!
@@chriskelly6559 I liked the bodies in the ball pit joke.
Wish those writers were with me the day JFK died. I was a junior in high school. We were stunned.
@@jude5976 I moved to Dallas in December a few weeks after the assassination . I was in second grade. I’ll never forget the red X in the book depository window as we drove by daily plaza.
Good morning from Finland! I suffer from insomnia, but the upside of it is that I get watch these Seth clips among the first in the world.
🙂Nice to hear from you in Finland! From Tennessee USA.
Greetings Finland! Mountain West US here. Love your music but they never come here so we can show them the love they deserve. Toumas Holopainen is a Finnish national treasure.
Hey Finland! Northern Wisconsin here.
Good morning from New Orleans!
As a Canadian, the maple syrup breast milk was funny.
Also, thanks for supporting your writing staff as the lead the fight for union support for less high-profile workers.
This segment, while seemingly meant to mock their half-ass jokes, is actually a great way to get their name out there and celebrate them. Pretty ingenious.
As an American, I understand that thte Canadian Maple Breast Milk season tends to run very short.
Scollins' rejected jokes are my favorite part of the show
"Garnish my celery" physically knocked the wind out of me
The celery joke made me laugh the loudest for some reason 😂😂
HEY SETH MEYERS
Why can't I find STRIKE FORCE FIVE PODCAST anywhere on CZcams...
Can you please put it back on...
DID YOU AND THE GUYS DO IT, DID CZcams DO IT.
SETH we need a update and explanation. The podcast was growing and everyone was loving it...
Please let us know.
I think it's actually a good pun, the reason it doesn't work is because people usually say "garnish my wages" instead of salary, so it initially sounds strange to the ear.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I loved that joke too!
"Paid better than ever before" Go writers!
You can tell Seth is at least as much of a writer as a performer. He values the writing that goes into a show as much as the performance in front of the audience.
You _KNOW_ it's a Scollins joke if you feel like a bad person for having laughed. And if you're okay with that, you're part of Scollins' tribe.
I love how passionately Seth supports and appreciates his writers. Of all the genres and styles of writing out there, comedy has got to be the most difficult, and for Seth and his team (not to mention other late night talk show writing teams) to do this every weekday is really kinda mindblowing. I'm glad the WGA was able to work out a deal and get back to work. It's also great that even though Late Night is back, Seth is still in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA whose fight is not yet over. #SolidarityForever!
Seth is Scollins, you know that right?
@@michael-masi-2021 - Mike Scollins and Seth Meyers are two different people…
@@michael-masi-2021czcams.com/video/f9PRfffpPfA/video.htmlsi=Fe4rU-y5TTeOy5H2
Two different people.
Scollins writes the kind of jokes that make you feel like a horrible person for laughing at said jokes.
The worst part is ... I've watched enough Surprise Inspection to pinpoint which ones are Scollins jokes.
That's the point.
@@alias093001 Same here, I guessed that the ball pit joke was his straight away!
I like his jokes
I like Ian's jokes because they're the type of jokes that you think of before telling others and say "Oho this one's gonna be real good". He even makes the face you'd do😂
Surprise Inspection is the best segment to honor the end of the writers' strike.
As a millennial, that lady marmelade joke brought a big smile to my face.
I love how much Seth loves his writers! You can tell how close and supportive an environment it is. It's insane how rare that is in late night but I am glad for it.
Totally knew EACH one of Scollins jokes 🤣 😂 😆
During the strike, I saw John Oliver & Seth at The Beacon. Honestly, I primarily went for John Oliver but Seth KILLED!! I was kinda shocked how good his standup is, but I guess I shouldn't be. People were in the audience were even saying "That was sooo good" when he was done. Highly recommend!
I loved the Usher joke. Stupid puns are my favorite. Keep up the great work Ian and Brian.
I legit laughed out loud at "and then another one on the bow." I'm not even particularly nautically-minded.
The Dad Joke energy was especially strong in this episode's surprise inspection.
"Why were they writing dad jokes?" -- me, while watching this surprise inspection (when I wasn't laughing inappropriately at the Scollins jokes)
Appreciate the working writers of this show and all shows. Thank you for standing together and thank you for making us laugh. It's medicine.
The fact that he ignored most of an insane story to go for a fringe joke about boat terms that the average person is only vaguely aware of in specific instances is golden.
(about the "'stern' talking to")
I've sailed since I was 5 and it made me snort with laughter.
I'm an avid cruiser, so I damn near passed out laughing at that joke!!! 😆 🤣 😂 😹
@@generaltso6914 I myself am pretty obsessed with the classic liners and I really enjoyed the joke. Throwing away the more obvious material for it made it even better XD
It was a really solid dad joke!
Scollins jokes are pretty much gold, just brutal, I love it.
"He never had a shot" That's pretty clever.
I fucking love surprise inspection, it really helps us get to know the writers, most of the time writers are unknown and behind the scenes and the only credit they get is in the credits and the pay they get... with us getting to know the writers you can almost call who's writing the jokes that seth tells that make it into the show which again is a way they can get credit beyond their hilariously bad jokes as well, It's just a brilliant segment.
The bow stern joke is brilliant, but at the same time it’s just complex enough for everyone to not pick up on it quickly enough for the show. Kudos to Ian still for coming up with it.
Brilliant? It was worse than a dad joke.
It was clever. It wouldn't be out of place as a little comic to break up the text of a kid's education book on boats ot something.
The LaBelle/Bed Bug joke got me🤣😭
Gosh we’ve missed all these jokes for months!!! Glad to have you back Seth and team!
Bless your little heart. That's the saddest statement I've read in a long time.
Interesting how a pandemic
Ruins lives and laughter can work settling exterior negativety
Fucking beautiful sentiment mate. You're a God damn class act. To turn surprise inspections 180 and change it into a tribute to the writers, that's gold mate. Also, even after writing jokes for over 20 years and having a pretty good grasp on what is and isn't funny, when you were wrong about the French tick you gave credit. No ego, just facts. Good on ya mate
God bless Carrie Snow
Love Seth being back so much! His standing with his writers, and his gentle poking fun at their jokes was so funny and sweet!
This is exactly why I love watching this show from here in Ireland. Top notch US current affairs lampooning cutting hilarious brilliance! And...has a heart.
When you can’t even get yourself to watch msnbc….
Hey Seth, appreciate everything you guys do. It's seriously helping make the world a saner, more unified place.
I agree!
Noooooo ....... it's *_comically_* making the world a saner, more unified place. That's what jokes do.
@@jeepliving1jackal alert
@@jeepliving1Not just jokes though. Wonderful sarcasm, satire and pointing out idiotic irony. Like the party of the 2nd amendment, only getting a gun charge against Biden Jr.

As a Canadian, the maple syrup joke, well done sir 👌
The Halloween ball pit joke was pure gold! 🎃💀😂
I hate myself for laughing at that Shamu joke 😂
Okay, you absolutely should have used the "Itchy itchy yaya dada" joke.
That one damn near killed me! 😂
As someone who loves puns, that boat bear pun was pretty good.
Yes, that one was my favorite.
agreed, i snickered.
justice for stern bow bear joke
That Sting joke was fantastic. It's criminal that it didn't get a better response.🎉
I needed the explanation. The joke did not seem to relate to any Sting songs, so it just lay there, dead. And I still don't know what tantric sex is.
Yeah, it was. I am now realizing I am THAT old😢. I'm so glad the writers are back even with the bad jokes. ❤❤❤
I don't understand why that joke got an explanation and the WalletHub one didn't.
@@missharmonRight?? After he explained, I still said, "Did no one watch American Pie!?!" 😮
Call the Police!!!
Laughing is free medicine!!! THANK YOU JOKERS!!!
God, I hope keeps this role for 20 more years. Clarity, sanity, and humor. The only thing I'd ever ask for is a list of citations each episode, just to make it that much easier to call people on bullshit.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think he's a better comedian than Fallon.
I hate to break this to you but we will have total ecological and economic collapse in less than 10 years 😂 and after that ain't nobody going to be on TV or anywhere else 😂
Only if he keeps Scollins

Ok. I am glad I wasn't taking a drink when he told the joke about Canadian breastmilk.
As a Canadian, I loved it. 😅

I'm loving the dad jokes. I can hear them laughing at their own jokes in the writers room
What a lineup of writers. I love how Seth includes them, like Conan did. 90s Conan had Brian McCann, Brian Stack, Jon Glaser, Andy Blitz, Robert Smigel, Dino Stamatopoulos, just all-stars on and on. I feel like these guys and gals are equivalent. Seth clearly genuinely cares about these people, too, like Conan. It's just a friggin love fest in this comment, innit?

Brian and Ian are KILLING IT. The bear/doodee/celery jokes were 🔥🔥
Seth really appreciates his writing staff.
I love that.
You keep on trucking
If there's a Bear on the Stearn of your boat you might need to bail it out.

Seth has carved out a niche for himself. laid-back, shirt sleeves rolled up. And he's funny. And very cute. And I have an old lady crush on him.
The corpses in the ball pit joke has me cackling.😂
Can Ian please lead a weekly dad joke segment? I'm in tears!

"Robert F Kennedy announced yesterday he is dropping out of the Democratic primary and running as an independent because, like his Vax card, he never had a shot." Seth brought the heat with that one.

This had me laughing so hard!!! Great job Seth!!!
As a Canadian that breast milk joke is a 10/10 would laugh again
SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU ALL BACK!!!!🎉
I literally started slapping the table when I realized surprise inspection was coming.
Hi Seth. I hope your writers watch and they realize how fantastic it is to have you say their names over and over. I don't know anything about the writers on other shows. But I know some of your writers. It's awesome how you let them shine. While also making fun of them!
Most talk shows just throw out those unusable jokes, but not Seth... he makes entire segments out of them.
"If we reframe the context, they could still be good."
I love guessing which writer wrote each question in the surprise inspection
Scollins kills it again!!! 💯🔥
Walked that line between razzing them and showing your appreciation for them and their strike VERY well, good sir. xP
As a Canadian, I can proudly profess that the maple syrup / breast feeding joke was actually funny.
SOOO happy your back Seth. ❤
Donnie's hair is proof positive that helmets aren't enough to stop brain injuries.
😂😂
What brain!???
Keep it up. You'll be a late night hack in no time kid!
In every Surprise Inspection, it feels like there is always one joke whose author remains a mystery. Part of the fun is guessing at the culprit, so thanks for making sure every author is given the credit they so richly deserve.
So happy to have the writers back! ❤
Have a feeling Brian has been waiting for that Doodie-free joke all his life.
The corpse ball pit joke had me giggling and snorting. It really shouldn't have been that funny.
A youtube exclusive of just reading all of Mike Scollins jokes should be made every week.
The corpses in the ball pit joke was funny. And the Sting tantric sex joke was straight up, rock solid.
Hey Seth, that breast milk joke WAS actually funny 😁
I just commented something similar since I had not seen your comment yet
I agree, that one was solid.
That was my favourite one of all of them
The world is so strange. I miss these segments incredibly, but once they’re gone for a while, you just move on and you forget about it. And then here they are again. Genius. Ha!
Your Surprise Inspection jokes are just Dad Jokes to the max!
I HELLA APPRECIATE YOU SHOWCASING WRITERS ON YOUR SHOW. As a writer, recognition and inclusion means much more to us than money. The jokes may not be on point, but writers putting themselves out there in this way surely is. Love your move, Go Writers!!!!!!!!!
Loved the Usher joke.
Also the Orlando whale joke and the Eggo maple milk.
Not with you on Usher, but Scollins' "worst" are always among my favourites. He has dark humour down and today added "Canada jokes" to his official repertoire.
That usher joke is awesome!
Seth: *makes a dead kids in a ballpit joke*
Me, clenching my fist in anger: "Scollins."
Love how much you appreciate your writers ❤
Correction: They do have people at most football stadiums who's job it is to direct you to your section and seat. I've never really thought of them as ushers but I'll take any chance I can to correct Seth
I came here to say this! I've never been to a football game, but they DO have ushers at baseball stadiums. I hope they address your correction!
I've never seen an usher at a football game before. Maybe it depends on the stadium?
I really liked the dismissed jokes. Especially your reaction to them. 😅
That monologue is *_DEADLY!!_*
🤣😂🤣🤣😭😭😭💀
SO GLAD Y'all r Back!!👏🙌🥰🙌👏
The doodie free shop joke made me lol really loud
Bodies in the ball pit had me rolling - great graphics!
Both the Doody-Free joke and the Garnish My Celery joke made me laugh out loud, even though I don’t think either are good jokes.
I hope that in 30 years when Seth and Scollins are still working together - they continue to use this photo of him. Forever.
I read Brian’s joke online the day the celery truck crashed. I LOVE IT!!
Correction: at 10:31 that's a TSA screener in the picture - not a customs official. You're welcome.
I can't be the only one who thought that the best foodie city joke was saying that Shamu was the one writing the review and implying that the whales were eating the trainers. I went even darker than they intended.
That bear-on-a-boat story was the perfect opportunity to muse that, with the economy struggling so much recently... have we finally found ourselves in another Bear Sterns situation?
This is one of my favorite stories growing up. I was born in 1971 (for context). My mother was hired to teach 4th grade. Teachers usually have 2-4 days to get their classrooms ready. On one of those prep days, my mom, with her new colleagues, went to a lunch counter at a grocery store in Idaho. My mom, grabbed a seat, turned to the person next to her and said, "Hi! I'm Gay!" The lady sitting next to her jumped off of her seat and screamed, "Well, I'm not!" My mother's name is Gay Ann. Of course they became fast friends. My mom and dad were married for 53 years.
Thank God the late night folks are back!
💕‼️‼️‼️
I’m too good at spotting Scollins jokes. He has a very… *distinctive* sense of humour 😂
LOVE Seth's surprise inspections! 👏👏👏
(...and the stellar stupid dad jokes 😂)
y'all need to do a surprise inspection of the graphics department because i could swear when this segment debuted you promised that wasn't the permanent intro, and yet they still haven't delivered a polished version...
