      I do agree though that it's annoying hearing "SUPERMAN PUNCH" over and over. Blame the creative team for getting Roman to use the move so many times, don't blame the commentators for calling a signature move.

    To add to the blandness: Remember when the streak ended?
    Cole: "The Streak... is over."
    Like that is NOT the reaction you want after seeing something as acclaimed as the Streak come to an end. It killed the moment big time.
    I can only imagine JR on commentary when the Streak ended.
    JR: BAH GOD. HE'S DONE IT. BROCK LESNAR HAS DONE THE UNTHINKABLE! LESNAR CONQUERED THE STREAK! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY.

    They can't analyse for shit. For example, Cole will go "What is the key for a Roman Reigns win tonight?" or "How does Sami Zayn win this match?" and Saxton would go "He needs to dip deep and give us another big performance". How fucking vapid is that? That tells us NOTHING. I want to hear some real analysis like "He needs to focus on Jericho's injured ribs, employ a lot more strikes tonight, keep Jericho cornered..." things like that.

    I cannot understand how David Otunga has remained employed by the WWE for so many years. His in-ring work was about as bland as a nun's diary, his commentary musters up all the enthusiasm of a mop on it's way to work, and he generally comes across as little more than a well built broomstick in a bowtie.

    • @Isaygoodday5

      He's a Harvard Law grad and he gets some Hollywood rub from being engaged (for the past decade--piss or get off the pot bruh...) to Jennifer Hudson. They obviously see those assets as valuable enough to keep him, but he's just not entertaining enough to succeed at anything they've put him in on-air.

      A 3-man team can work. If 1 guy is heel support, 1 face and the last guy keeps em both in line and things moving. Problem is with both line ups right now is that the heel guy so outclasses the face it ends up sucking. But in general I'd agree 2 man teams over the years seem to have worked best. And this 4 man is just stupid.

    Michael Cole is much better than most people think he is, so long as he doesn't have Meekmahan in his ear all the time. See the UK Championship tournament, Beast in the East, his genuine reaction to CM Punk's piledriver... I even liked his call of Goldberg squashing Brock Lesnar. And I agree with Adam on Renee Young - she's among the best non-wrestling personalities in the WWE right now. She has so much chemistry with other performers.

    • @Vrinara
      @Vrinara Před 7 lety +2

      Saxton I feel is wasting his talents on Commentary, The guy is a decent wrestler, though his finisher was dumb. Otunga just needs to get the hell out of WWE... I still don't get how he is still hired, The guy is just there because he has a hot Celeb wife. and a Law Degree.. Put Saxton in NXT and actually have him home his craft? He will be so much better on the mic, and in the ring, where as, Otunga.. Well, he's the reason I hate commentary atm on Smackdown. I love Graves on COmmentary, Trips did a good job on that.

Whenever she is interviewing, I can't help but listen to everything she says... they should definitely go the extra mile and make a her comment on at least the female matches. If they wanted us to forget Mick Foley, then why insert him as Raw GM and have him on the show week after week? In my eyes its more like " hey kids! Remember that hardcore legend you loved in the attitude era? Well, he's the new Raw GM and you get to see him week after week getting belittled and trashed on by Stephanie McMahon. Enjoy!" Kinda ruins his legacy as a hardcore wrestling legend.

    I think the commentary is fine, I like the 3 man booth, the only thing I'd change on Raw is Saxton not having any comebacks when Cory Graves teases him. I mean either stop emasculating the man on TV or have him fight back and if he doesn't have the wits to respond then replace him with someone who does or just stop the emasculation.
    Also another weird thing is how back in the day like you said in the video, there was one heel, one face, even when they had the 3 man teams like in late 2005 with Lawler, Coachman and The ECW guy, there was always one face and one heel but now, sometimes I cant tell who the heel is. Technically Reaves and JBL are supposed to be heel but that's only up to a point, when it comes to main event talent like Reigns and Cena, no one says criticizes them and supports the other guy, instead they actually go outta their way to support the baby faces, it's weird when JBL is dissing Daniel Bryan for looking like a goat but then saying stuff like 'Big Match John' or 'Cena is the greatest of all time' or Graves calling Roman Reigns 'The Big Dog'. It's like all the heel commentators are Stephanie McMahon.

    • @Calder90
      @Calder90 Před 7 lety +4

      Yeah, it's a little frustrating. One or two digs is fine but some shows it's just relentless. Like, stfu Cory we're watching a match - can you, oh I dunno, commentate on it and not on Byron?
      It's especially egregious when Byron is commentating the match, and then Graves is like, "Shut up, Byron." No, you fucking shut up.
      I hate Cory Graves.

    And that is why, for as long as I've watched wrestling, I watch it in Spanish. Two commentators, one face, one heel, both of them with Ranallo level of enthusiasm, both of them with not overused catchphrases, the same two guys WWE has had since about 6 years now, with the great Savinovich now retired, and no Michael Cole, no Otunga, no Saxton, no Graves which is a bit of a shame, and, thank to Jesus, no JBL.

    Thank God someone finally made it clear in a video that Cole's biggest problem is being told EXACTLY what to say/what not to say most of the time on Raw/PPVs. I'm not saying Cole would suddenly become JR without a script/a voice in his headset screaming at him, but honestly 80% of the reason Cole is shit on commentary nowadays is because of that very same thing. JR admitted in an interview that he wasn't forced to say nearly as much shit as Cole is made to do.

    I would say telegraphing false-finishes with comments like "that's gotta be it," or "we have a new champion!" is the dirt worst thing they do. If you know what to listen for, they ruin so many endings. In all fairness, they make those comments when it's still far from over, but generally they react differently to actual pinfalls than they do nearfalls.

    I agree!! they should bring back the 2 member commentary team across all brands. Especially with NXT and 205 Live they have the place where they can send so many commentators to.
    If they have to keep a 3 member team, they should make it:
    RAW - Cole, Corey Graves & Lillian Garcia (come on! she is experienced enough!!)
    SmackDown Live - JBL, Mauro & Renee Young
    NXT - Tom Philips, Nigel Mcguiness & Byron Saxton
    205 Live - Mauro, Corey & Renee Young
