How Much Gold Can I Recover From This?

- Gold recovery from carpet is an old prospector's trick. Placer gold miners would take a piece of carpet, and lay it in a gold bearing stream or river. After a few days, they'd come back and clean the carpet, recovering the gold that became trapped in it's fibers. Today I try doing this with a piece of carpet I found while gold prospecting.

I heard that in the Bible when they used sheepskin to capture gold, that's how the term "Golden Fleece" came about.

Hey klesh. I got my gold blast pay dirt. Got over a gram. This was my first time panning for gold. It was fun. The only problem I had was using the snuffer bottle! Those nuggets you have look very tempting. Mark in maine.
Next step. Let it fully dry on the patio, then vacuum it out!

Even though you didn't get anything it was worth the try, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've thought many times that I was going to find at least a little gold so dug a few buckets only to get skunked when I got back to camp and my highbanker. Usually, it's after I found a tiny piece in the same area. You just don't know till you try.

Curious out of Ralston creek, Arapahoe bar, or clear creek any part of it. Where has been your best recovery so far in your travels I've found the platte has been pretty giving that Eastern side across from steele st park! Anyways take care an hope to catch ya in the field this summer sometime

Hi, Shane. Since gold is 80.3 x heavier than water, I believe I would have suspended the piece of rug in a bucket or tub deep enough to permit it to be shaken or agitated in the water with the idea that any gold would have fallen free. I’ve watch some recent videos of placer gold miners doing it just that way. I bring it up only because I think it would have been easier but as effective. Anyone else out there have similar thoughts?
